[Resolved] slow pc

hi, the pc has been running ok but is slowly running slower. Thought it was time for a review. I can't figure out what is cuasing the slowness. I download and ran a more recent version of hijackthis. here is the log. any help would be very much appreciated.

Please fill in the link to topic field with a link to this topic
Copy/paste this filename into the Browse to the file you want to submit field:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\ldlcserv.exe

Then press Send File, this will upload the file for analysis

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS)
  • Close all applications and windows.
  • Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
  • When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt<-this one will be minimized
  • Make sure Format->Word Wrap is unchecked
  • Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your reply

Once complete, please post both DSS logs, you won't need to produce a new HijackThis log as DSS produces one for you.

Hi bluerapala,

There are a number of programs which should be uninstalled from your computer.
Please open Start->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs, look down the list for these items and remove them:

Error Search Assistant Reset
EZ Videos
Media-Motor
Search Button Reset

These are all malware-related

You have a program called Spyware Vanisher installed on your computer. This program was until recently classified as a Rogue antispyware program. Typically, rogue programs do not provide any security benefits, and use false positives to goad users into purchasing a full version of the program. I strongly suggest you remove it - to do so, open Start->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs, look down the list for Spyware Vanisher and remove it.

You have Viewpoint Media Player installed on your system. This program is not malware but it is foistware in that it is usually installed without the user's knowledge or approval, and for this reason I recommend you remove it. If you actually use this program, I recommend you try using safe and free alternatives such as VLC Media Player.
To remove, open Start->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs find Viewpoint Media Player and select Remove

You have LimeWire, a P2P file sharing program installed on your computer. This program does not come bundled with malware as some similar programs do, but peer-to-peer file sharing networks are one of the biggest sources of malware we see. Anything downloaded from them cannot be trusted to be clean, because even if the file appears to be what it claims to be, it can have malware embedded in it.
I recommend you remove it, but of course the choice is yours.
You can remove Limewire via Add/Remove Programs.

You have Ad-Aware SE installed on your computer. This program is outdated and no longer receives updates. Please uninstall it via Add/Remove Programs and obtain the latest version Ad-Aware 2007 from here:

Next press Start->Run, copy/paste the following command (it's one long command) into the box and press OK:

A black box will open and a file will appear on your Desktop called look.txt. Please wait for the black box to close before opening look.txt, post a copy of look.txt in your next response.

Make hidden/system files and folders visible:
Click Start -> My Computer
Select the Tools menu, click Folder Options and select the View tab
Under the Hidden files and folders heading SELECT Show hidden files and folders
UNCHECK the Hide extensions for known file types option
UNCHECK the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option
Click Yes to confirm and press OK


Use Windows Explorer (right-click Start, select Explore) to find and delete the following folder:

C:\Program Files\Common files\WinTools

If you removed Spyware Vanisher, please also delete this folder:

c:\spywarevanisher-full

Then please do an online scan with Kaspersky:
Open Kaspersky Online Scanner in Internet Explorer
  • Click Accept and the web scanner will begin to load
  • If a yellow warning bar appears at the top of the browser, click it and choose Install ActiveX Control
  • You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, click Install
  • If you are prompted about another ActiveX control called Kaspersky Online Scanner GUI part then allow it to be installed also.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT and then Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
    Scan Archives
    Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
  • The program will start to scan your system.
  • Once the scan is complete, click on the Save as Text button and save the file to your desktop
Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the license, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license is accepted, reset to 100%.

Hi bluerapala,

Please open HijackThis, choose Do a system scan only and place a checkmark next to the following line:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Spyware Vanisher] C:\spywarevanisher-full\SpywareVanisher.exe -FastScan

Then close all open windows apart from HijackThis, press Fix checked, OK the prompt and close HijackThis.


That look2.txt output wasn't quite what I expected to see, so please open the folder:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\JAGWinTools

check the subfolder temp and any other folders inside that one. If they are all empty then delete JAGWinTools
If there are files there then let me know.


Then please find and delete these files:

C:\Documents and Settings\joe\Shared\01 Track 1 (techno).wma
C:\Documents and Settings\joe\Shared\Eighties classic (techno).wma

Clean Spybots quarantined files:
Open Spybot - Search & Destroy
Select Recovery from the menu on the left side
Select the relevant item(s) and choose Purge selected items
Close Spybot - Search & Destroy


Backup Your Registry with ERUNT:
  • Download erunt.zip to your Desktop from here:
    http://aumha.org/downloads/erunt.zip
  • Right-click erunt.zip, select Extract All… and follow the prompts to extract ERUNT to a new folder on your Desktop
  • Inside the new folder, double-click ERUNT.exe to start the program
  • OK all the prompts to back up your registry to the default location.
Note: to restore your registry, go to the backup folder and start ERDNT.exe

Then, open Notepad (press Start->Run, enter notepad and press OK)
Copy everything inside the code box below (Starting with REGEDIT4) and paste it into a new notepad file.
Change the Save As Type to All Files and save it as fix.reg to your Desktop.

Note: Please copy and paste all the text at once, and check that there is NO blank line above REGEDIT4 and one blank line at the bottom.

1. the fix reg looked ok but gave me this message

"are you sure you want to add the information to the registry". I clicked ok and it said it was added.

update - I was able to delete the folder - C:\Program Files\Common Files\JAGWinTools from another XP user on the pc Made me wonder if I need a hijack log from all xp users for review? Thanks

1. the fix reg looked ok but gave me this message
"are you sure you want to add the information to the registry". I clicked ok and it said it was added.

Yes that's fine

2. I get access denied when trying to cd to C:\Program Files\Common Files\JAGWinTools\temp
I was maybe going to try in safe mode or with another user id on xp?
update - I was able to delete the folder - C:\Program Files\Common Files\JAGWinTools from another XP user on the pc

3. I don't have the spybot sd exe anymore to run.

Ok we'll remove the whole folder, please use Windows explorer to find and delete this:
