Hello ! Last night (December 26, 07) i got back from vacation, and my friend had been on my computer from the 21st until the 26th. When i left on the 21st my computer was working flawlessly, however when i got back it was having some trouble. In the background programs bar there was a blinking red X saying your infected with .32win.skynet (something like that ><) so i procdeded to scan with norton 360, Spybot Search and Destroy, AVG anti spyware, Webroot spysweeper, Adaware SE, they came up with Norton 360 : Hacktool.rootkit Tracking.cookie Spybot Search and Destroy: Smitfraud-C. zlob.downloader.rid Smitfraud-C.MSVPS Adaware didn't catch anything Webroot : Trojan-ace-x Trojan-downloader-zlob AVG Anti Spyware failed to catch anything So i proceded to quartine the files, Norton 360 secessfully quarntined the files, Webroot as well; however when i tried to quartine with Spybot Search and Destroy my compter would always restart 3/4 the way through. After doing those scans and quarntining the files that i could, the red X stoped coming up, and there were no more pop ups saying i was infected with .32win.skynet Now, only Sybot search and destory picks up Smitfraud - C. zlob.downloader.rid Smitfraud-C.MSVPS and the other sweepers fail to pick up anything. Any help regarding the removal of these trojans / what ever they are would be much appreciated Thanks ! -Stephen

Hi

Sorry about the delay, many of our experts are still on holiday.

Viewpoint Manager is installed without the users permission. If you didn't install it, or if you did but you no longer use it, I recommend you get rid of it.

Please click Start >> Control Panel >> Add or Remove Programs.
Find the item below on the list and click Remove.
Viewpoint Media Player
Let me know how it goes.

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri), saving to your desktop.
Extract the contents of SmitFraudFix.exe to your desktop.

Open the SmitFraudFix folder on your desktop and double-click SmitfraudFix.cmd.
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Hi

Launch AVG anti-spyware
  • On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
    • Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of
the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
  • Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then
    select "Quarantine".
  • Under "Reports"
    • Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
    • Un-Select "Only if threats were found"
Close AVG anti-spyware, DO NOT run a scan just yet, we will shortly.

It would be a good idea if you print out these instructions or write them down, as you wont have access to the internet.

Next, we need to boot into Safe Mode.
  • Restart the computer.
  • As soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
  • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
  • Press Enter.

Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitFraudFix folder on your desktop and double-click SmitfraudFix.cmd.
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

Reboot your computer into SafeMode again.
  • Launch AVG-anti-spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
  • Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab
then click on "Complete System Scan".
  • AVG will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little
    time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
  • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all
    actions"
  • Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
  • Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the
screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where
you saved that file, this is important).
  • Close AVG and reboot your system back into Normal Mode and post the
results of the AVG Anti-Spyware scan.

Also include a new HijackThis log and describe how the computer is running now.

Thanks,

jpshortstuff

And i use Mozilla firefox so this isnt really and issue but when i open Internet Explorer, everyonce and a while ill get this little toolbat drop down saying something like "Warning your computer is infected with spyware, click here to remove it" And obviously i don't click on it haha, but none the less it still comes up. I can't say exactly what it says but it's something along the lines as above, it hasn't pop'd up in a while. And once again thanks for you time and support, i appreciate you working with me : ] -Stephen EDIT: I just ran spybot search and destroy, and it is no longer picking up Smitfraud-C. but it still had zlob.downloader.rsv or something
Hi

We need to disable SpySweeper Shields so that it doesn't interfere with our fixes.
  • Open SpySweeper.
  • Click Shield Settings on the right
(or Shields on the left, depending what screen you're on).
  • Click Internet Explorer and uncheck all items.
  • Click Windows System and uncheck all items.
  • Click Hosts File and uncheck all items.
  • Click Startup Programs and uncheck all items.
  • Close SpySweeper. After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

Open HijackThis. Hit Do A System Scan Only. Place a check next to the following items (if present):
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)

O21 - SSODL: bvtqfvx - {18630B9C-DFDB-4550-AEE2-D0CE72BE9FCD} - (no file)

Close all browsers and windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Please Right Click your Start button, and click Explore.
Next, locate and delete the following files and folders (if present):

Files:
C:\WINDOWS\domnftwmnf.dll <
C:\WINDOWS\alxvdvm.dll <

If any of them aren't there then don't worry, but if you have a problem deleting one of them then please let me know.

  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language and save it to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially any web browsers.

Hi

Delete this file:
C:\WINDOWS\fvkwdrt.exe

I can't see anything bad in any of your logs, so I am going to give you a prevention speech. As for your slowness when opening programs - have a look at this:
Help! My computer is slow! - by Miekemoes

I am only here to help with the Malware issues, so if you are still having problems, head on over to one of our tech-help forums:
Microsoft Windows or
General Hardware

Post a new topic in one of those forums stating your issues, and also include a link to this thread so that whoever helps you over there can see what has been done.

You can now delete SmitFraudFix.exe and the SmitFraudFix folder from your desktop.

Set correct settings for files that should be hidden in Windows XP
  • Click Start > My Computer > Tools menu (at top of page) > Folder Options > View tab.
  • Under "Hidden files and folders" if necessary select Do not show hidden files and folders.
  • If unchecked please checkHide protected operating system files (Recommended)
  • If necessary check "Display content of system folders"
  • If necessary Uncheck Hide file extensions for known file types.
  • Click OK

Now that you appear to be clean, theres just a few steps I'd like you to take to prevent any future infections.
  • System restore:
This is a good time to clear your existing system restore points and establish a new clean restore point:
    • Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
    • Select Create a restore point, and Ok it.
    • Next, go to Start > Run and type in cleanmgr
    • Select the More options tab
    • Choose the option to clean up system restore and OK it.

This will remove all restore points except the new one you just created.
Make sure you do this now, as your System Restore currently has infected files in it.

  • Keeping your Windows up-to-date is crucial to your computer's security. Please go to the Windows Update Site (using Internet Explorer) and download and install all critical updates on a regular basis.

  • Make sure you update your Anti-Virus software regularly, new viruses are being developed all the time.

  • Some more programs that it would be useful to have [OPTIONAL but RECOMMENDED]:
Download Spybot Search and Destroy 1.5 from here
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.

SpywareBlaster is another real-time scanner that prevents most spyware from even being installed.
    Freely available: Download SpywareBlaster

  • Download and install the free version of WinPatrol. This program protects your computer in a variety of ways and will work well with your existing security software. Have a look at this tutorial to help you get started with the program.
Also, please read this great article by Tony Klein: So How Did I Get Infected In First Place

Glad we could be of assistance.

Please reply to this thread once more if you are satisfied so that we can mark the problem as resolved.

Stay Clean!

Hey JP,

I'm actually away from my infected computer until tomorrow night, but once i get home i will be sure to delete the file you have instructed me to do so. Also, i'm not sure if you guys delete the thread after it is marked 'resolved', if so please don't delete this one for a good 3 - 4 days just incase i don't get back in 1 day : ].

Anyways, thanks a ton, your directions were simple, and efficient. Everything was explained very well, the reponce time was amazing especually around this time of year. You guys definitally saved me a lot of time if i were to try and do it myself.

Thanks a ton JP !

Hi

We don't delete resolved threads we just close them. We'll leave this one open for you, post back when you're sure the computer is fine. Any more questions just ask.

Glad we could help

jp
Well, i'm back home and very satisfied with the preformance, you guys did a amazing job; however there is still one item i would like to know about. Zlob.downloader.rsv ? its ".rsv" or something, im sure about the zlob.downloader though, is that malware / spyware? it has been showing up in my Spybot search and destroy scans, other than that the machine has been running great, just as good as pre-infection which is fast : ] Thanks for your great customer service - Stephen
