Right down the card you have. Intel Pro 100 VE. Now I would go into Device Manager and uninstall the NIC by Right Clicking on it and select uninstall. Reboot and let windows install it.
Tried a known good NIC from an older PC, Dlink DFE530 Same problem Browser works for 3 minutes then quits loading. The funny thing is that email continues to work as does ping. So the onboard NIC is probably ok. This problem surfaced Sunday, when I attempted to remove Zonealarm. We cleaned that up as you recall. Should I reload it? Maybe it’ll release something????? Also Outlook Express is slow to load, but runs well. I’m reaching
This is how I posted the IE settings: But it shouldn't have a effect on Firefox.

  • Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
    • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
    • Click once on the Security tab
    • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
    • Click once on the Custom Level button.
      1. Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
      2. Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
      3. Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
      4. Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
      5. Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
      6. Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
      7. When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
      8. If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
  • Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

Try the following:

  • Go to Start | Run, type cmd and press Enter
  • Copy the following command:
    ipconfig /flushdns
  • Click the [external image: Posted Image] image button in the upper left portion of the command prompt window title bar and choose Edit | Paste
  • Press Enter to execute the command
  • Repeat steps 3 and 4 with the following command:
    ipconfig /registerdns
  • Close your Internet browser and reopen, try signing in again
  • If you are still having issues, repeat steps 3 and 4 with the following command:
    netsh winsock reset catalog
  • Again, you may need to close and reopen your browser

tried your last suggestion with no positive results I'm currently posting while operating in "Safe Mode w/ Networking" I may try and load ZoneAlarm and see if the problem goes away. from my mosa recent log files is there a process running in the background that could be causing the browser to go dead?
Problem appears to be solved.. I re-installed zone allarm and the pc is like a ferrari thanks for your patience and help should we scan this one more time for viruses and trojans? in my child alternate session of XP he gets a program not found error associated with the trojan we removed mllmn.exe, mllmn.dll how do I address this?
That really concerns me that Zone Alarm would do that.
