[Resolved] My Hijackthis Log and problems..

I did the self help stuff that needs to be done before running these things btw.
For some lame reason, when i run safe mode, my fonts are crazy big but I still did manage to run the AVG scan and did the quarantine and deleted stuff, etc.
I also saved the report x2 on the desktop but for some reason, when I started in normal mode…its not there. No clue what to do about it. I will try to run the scan again if needed.

I don't see a anti-virus program running. Get this free one.

Click HERE Click the Download Now and Save, Install, Update and run a full scan.


Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment

Sorry I didnt check this cuz I thought I had 2 replies on this thread lol.
Did what ya told me. The problem with the computer is same old =) Pop ups and running slow >< IE pop ups are killer though.
I can let the computer sitting and few mins and bam, it starts =)

I suggest you do this:

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.


Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Next:

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.


(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time.

Next:

Download ComboFix from Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, please delete it from your desktop and download this new version . It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

  • Close any open browsers and make sure you are disconnected from the net. Unplug the cable if need be before running combofix.
  • WARNING: IF you have not already done so Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet when it starts
  • Please do not re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review

****Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall or freeze ****

*If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.

I havent really messed with this computer much lately, but wife said the main problem right now is, like last night, it had like 140 pop up windows..And there were programs installing left and right even though she tried to cancel it.
She told me that on the phone, so it was kinda funny to me cuz she was fighting to close the windows while more and more kept opening.

You need to update SunJava.
Updating Java:
Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.
  • Scroll down to where it says Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 3
    The Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications.
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name. It should have the [external image: Posted Image] icon next to it.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on 6-windowsi586-p.exe to install the newest version.
Once installed you can test to see that it is in fact installed

Yes I had installed a key logger few weeks back to check on some things happening on this PC…Then didnt get time/chance to follow thru with it.
We can get rid of it, If you tihnk thats whats causing the problem.
And could you suggest one too that is safer/better and can help me monitor my computer ?

Something interesting, I just uninstalled older JAVA and rebooted the computer to install the new version.. Once computer rebooted, I got this Error message Windows cannot Open this File, File: Spruce.exe.vir To open this file, Windows needs to know what program created it. Windows can go online to look it up automatically, or you can manually select from a list of programs on your computer. What do you want to do ? Option A : Use the web service to find the appropriate program Option B: Select the program from a list. I just hit cancel and didnt do anything about it…yet. And on a side note, I have been leaving the computer on all day today and yesterday etc. I havent seen the pop ups start YET. So maybe I guess they been fixed. I dont see anything else really unusual with the computer. Thanks.

I haven't used any keyloggers, but that one might be OK. I just wanted to know if you installed it.

I don't see a firewall being used.

Below is a list of two free firewalls (in no order of preference).It is important to note that you should only have one firewall installed at a time, but you can download to your Desktop and install each in turn to see which one you prefer.

Ok, Installed the firewall.. As you suggested, I did a search for Spru*.*. Following are the files/folders I found……. Spruce - Auto Update Target : "C:\qoobox\Quarantine\C\Program Files\Spruce\Spruce.exe.vir" /DELAY=120 Starts in : "C:\qoobox\Quarantine\C\Program Files\Spruce" File Type: Vir / Shortcut Target Location : Spruce File Size : 1 kb Spruce (Folder) Location : C:\qoobox\Quarantine\C\Program Files File Type: Folder File Size : 1.44 MB / 10 files Weird thing about this folder, It is READ ONLY. Ok the rest of them are all in same location… Spruce.dll.intermediate.manifest.vir Spruce.dll.vir Spruce.exe.vir Spruce.info.vir Spruce.original.vir SpruceRg.dll.vir All these files under this folder : C:\qoobox\Quarantine\C\Program Files\Spruce Ok, So Should I just delete all of it ? =)
