My computer, particularly when using the internet, has been kinda hinkey (that's a technical term, isn't it?) lately, so I ran SpyBot - Search & Destroy, and discovered a problem called Smitfraud-C., which was followed with this bit of information: Settings HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WinOpts

Accordingly, I went to fix the problem, only to discover that it SpyBot cannot actually remove this problem. So, I ran AVG Anti-spyware (free version) and ewido anti-malware (again, free version), and neither of these applications were able to correct the problem – which I'm sure is no surprise to you. At this point, I knew it was time to go to the A-bomb… HijackThis. So here is my current scan:

From there, I tried to do some research on Tom Coyote to see if I could try to address this problem further. Accordingly, I've run these additional scans:

Can anyone help me with this thing?

Thank you in advance, Happy.
Hello and Welcome to the forum.

I suggest you do this:

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

First we need to get a look at this file.

Please go to http://virusscan.jotti.org , click on Browse, and upload the following file for analysis:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\dsdmoprps.dll

Then click Submit. Allow the file to be scanned, and then please copy and paste the results here for me to see.

If Jotti is too busy you can try these.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Next:

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time.

Next:

Download ComboFix from Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, please delete it from your desktop and download this new version . It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
——————————————————————–
  • Close any open browsers and make sure you are disconnected from the net. Unplug the cable if need be before running combofix.
  • WARNING: IF you have not already done so Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet when it starts
  • Please do not re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.

I did encounter a pop-up box that indicated there was a difficulty with a certain memory location upon initially running ComboFix, but by simply clicking the "OK" option, it seemed to run without any problem or otherwise notable computer activity.
That was the old one that you just posted. Please read what I posted about getting Combofix to your desktop. You have it in a temp folder.

C:\Documents and Settings\Paul Wagner\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\3Z45ZGTC\ComboFix[1].exe

You have to put Combofix on your desktop or this won't work.
Once you have it on the desktop, do the below.

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\knrifnlt.dat
C:\WINDOWS\system32\gvdtnhwa.dat
C:\WINDOWS\system32\xjmrshoj.dat
C:\WINDOWS\system32\tjutssth.dat
C:\WINDOWS\system32\vonkwmrm.dat
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dsdmoprps.dll.bak
C:\Program Files\Google\Google Desktop Search\GoogleDesktop.exe

Folder::
C:\Program Files\Google\Google Desktop Search

Registry::
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\explorer\mountpoints2\{361ac05d-0e0d-11da-9aa9-806d6172696f}]

Save this as Save this as "CFScript"

[external image: Posted Image]

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe

Then post the results log and a new HijackThis log.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Sorry, my error earlier, I apologize.

Here is the Combofix log I just ran…

Thanks again!!!
You need to update SunJava.
Updating Java:
Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.
  • Scroll down to where it says Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u2
The Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications.
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name. It should have the [external image: Posted Image] icon next to it.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on 6-windowsi586-p.exe to install the newest version.
Once installed you can test to see that it is in fact installed

After the above:

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a checkmark/tick in the box on the left side on these:

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
I've completed that…

As a simple F.Y.I, Java SE Runtime is on Update 3 (I assumed that you simply intended me to add the latest update).

Here's the newest HJT log after fixing the suggested items…

My computer seems to be booting up much more quickly than it has in recent weeks… I take it that's a good sign!!! Oh yeah, and no more bubbles in the lower right-hand corner taking about updating anti-virus software. :-)
Yes the latest Java

Good job

  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

    • [external image: Posted Image]
  • If shown the disclaimer, Select "2"

Here's my usual all clean post

Log looks good :D

You need to create a new Clean restore point.

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Click Start Menu > Run > copy and paste

%SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe

Press OK. Choose Create a Restore Point then click Next. Name it (something you'll remember) and click Create, when the confirmation screen shows the restore point has been created click Close.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
Check "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

  • Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
    • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
    • Click once on the Security tab
    • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
    • Click once on the Custom Level button.
      • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
      • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
