Hi folks- I would be so chuffed if a clever samaritan could help me get rid of this Win32Fotomoto virus/adware. Windows Defender finds it and gets rid every time I boot up.

Here's my HijackThis log:

I'm still in training so I'll get back to you when I get permission to do so.

OK- Thanks very much. I look forward to hearing from you.

Welcome to What The Tech, sorry if there was a delay it's a busy forum.

Please either print or save these instructions because you wont have Internet access in Safe Mode.

You have a backdoor Trojan on your computer that can steal information from it. So until we've finished cleaning your PC please do not use any online banking services and keep logging into things that require passwords to a minimum. Also please, if you can, change all your passwords from another computer and contact any financial institutions you use. Once you've had a program like this on your system your computer can never be completely trusted again, I will try to do my best but it's important you are aware of this.

Please rename the file listed in bold to HJT.exe
C:\Program Files\Hijackthis\HijackThis.exe <– This file

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Download ComboFix and save it to the Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).

Now please reboot back into Normal Mode.

Please manually disconnect your computer from the Internet and run ComboFix.

  • You must download it to and run it from your Desktop
  • Now STOP all your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields) as they could easily interfere with ComboFix.
  • Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a log. Please save that log to post in your next reply along with a fresh HJT log
  • Re-enable all the programs that were disabled during the running of ComboFix just before manually reconnecting to the Internet.

Note:
Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

Now please post a new HijackThis(HJT) log and let me know how your computer is running.

I don't see evidence of a firewall in your log, are you using Windows Firewall? If you're not sure please follow these instructions.

Click on the Windows Start button in the left hand corner of your screen.
Go to Control Panel or settings Control Panel
Double click on Windows Firewall
The two main options are On and Off. Tell me whether there's a checkmark next to On or Off.

Logs to include in your reply
SDFix
ComboFix
HJT
