Hi. I have been scanning my computer with many different spyware removers to get rid of this Trojan.Virtumonde. But none have succeeded in removing it. I think this trojan is having an affect on my connection, as I cannot connect to any online games. I really need help in getting rid of this dayam thing. Any help would be REALLY appreciated. Hi christo 121,

I go by the name of Trevuren and EnigmaChick has asked me to assists her with your log inasmuch as it is a Vista running machine and many of out normal tools do not run on this platform.

One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan.

This allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and download and execute files.

I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Though the trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Please read these for more information:

We can still clean this machine but I can't guarantee that it will be 100% secure afterwards. Let me know what you decide to do.

I was going to reformat my OS but I have lost the CD's to do so. I will be ringing up the company on Monday requesting a new disk. But for the time being I would like to take the risk by leaving my computer connected to the internet and getting rid of this trojan until i recieve my Vista CD. Where do I start?

The information that I need from you to start is the following:

A. Please run the scanner that keeps on telling you that you are infected with Vundo and copy/paste the log/report into your next log.

B. Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your desktop.

• Close all applications and windows.
• Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
• When the scan is complete, a text file will open - Main.txt
• Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of Main.txt in your thread in the HijackThis Log Help Forum.
• An additional text file, Extra.txt,will also be available (by default) in the following FOLDER, C:\Deckard\System Scanner.
• Please go to that FOLDER and also copy the contents of Extra.txt to your post as well.

Note: some firewalls may warn that sigcheck.exe is trying to access the internet - please ensure that you allow sigcheck.exe permission to do so.

What DSS will do:

• Create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.
• Clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
• Check some important areas of your system and produce a report for your analyst to review. DSS automatically runs HijackThis for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have it installed.
