EDIT: By a second look on the Malware FAQ I'm not sure if it's a Worm, Rootkit or whatever it can be.. at least someone has the power to access my computer.

I've tried complete detailed scans with AVG and avast now but none of them seem to pick anything up, so I'm guessing this is a new kind of worm.

At startup it opens cmd.exe and starts spamming the shutdown -s -t 2 command.

I've created a .bat file that spams the command shutdown -a so it stops but sometimes it even gives me a blue screen after I've done that which just scares me. It also shutdown avast and AVG once so it must have control over my computer. I managed to get a hand of a hijackthis log so hope this can help me.

Hi! Welcome to the WTT forums.
My name is Scotty. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research.
Please be patient.

Please make a uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
5. Click on the Save list… button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here in a reply.

You are operating your computer with multiple Anti Virus programs running in memory at once:
AVG & Avast

Anti-virus programs take up an enormous amount of your computer's resources when they are actively scanning your computer. Having two anti-virus programs running at the same time can cause your computer to run very slow, become unstable and even, in rare cases, crash.

If you choose to install more than one antivirus program on your computer, then only one of them should be active in memory at a time.

There are basically two types of these programs:
On-Access and On-Demand

On-Access Scanners
As the name implies, it runs in the background all the time the PC is turned on and running. The main function of an on-access scanner is to monitor activity on your machine.

On-Demand Scanners
As the name implies, are scanners that only run when you ask them to.
Such as:
Online Scans and scanners that run on your machine but are not actively scanning your machine.

Please disable one or the other so they do not conflict.
Thanks for the help! Reason I got avast was that I thought maybe it could take the malware that AVG couldn't. My computer is a beast and it didn't run slow even tho the resident shield on both were turned on. Anyways… after a reboot the computer went to blue screen when going into the "what user do you want to log onto?" screen. Some image file was missing so I'm guessing the malware deleted it… I'm working on burning a new XP disc since my current one has too many damages on it, I'll do what you said after I've run a system repair on my stationary (I'm on my laptop). I don't want to format since I can't bother reinstalling all the programs I have on my two other hard drives like I've had to a couple of times already for other reasons.
Ok, now I repaired… I'll add a new Hijack log too since I think you'll maybe need it.. :P

Hi

You are still running two anti-virus's. Instead of giving you extra protection the confliction can actually allow malware to get onto your machine unnoticed, that's why you need to disable or remove one of them.

Download and Save ComboFix
  • Download this file from below:

    Here
    or
    Here

  • Save it to your Desktop.
  • Disconnect from the Internet, than disable your anti-virus and any real-time anti-spyware monitors that are running.
  • Click Start>Run copy/paste or type "%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe" /killall into the Run box and click OK.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply with a new HijackThis log.
Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall
Note 2:Remember to re-enable your anti-virus and anti-spyware before reconnecting to the Internet.

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task-Manager use the Processes tab (press ctrl alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

In your next reply post:
ComboFix.txt
New HijackThis log taken after the above scan has run
Done :) It's also worthy to note that the cmd hasn't tried shutting down my computer after the repair of the windows installation, but maybe it's some traces of it left.

Combofix

Open Notepad - it must be Notepad, not Wordpad.
Copy the text below in the code box by highlighting all the text with your mouse and pressing Ctrl+C

File::
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\lvuvc.hs

Driver::

Go to the Notepad window and click Edit > Paste
Then click File > Save
Name the file "CFScript.txt" (including the quotes)
Save the file to your Desktop

[external image: Posted Image]

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task-Manager use the Processes tab (press ctrl alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

In your next reply post:

Oh, sorry. I thought the 2 at the end would mean it was the newest. :s The one I should have attached is too big because the upload size is 264.81 so I uploaded it on megaupload. If you don't feel secure enough to download it from there please refer a site where I can save large amount of texts or whatever.

Hi

Did you update/repair your computer between fixes? It's easier and better if you refrain from doing anything until we have cleaned you up.

ProgramFiles2.
This folder seems to contain only Raxco. Did you install that software, and did you intentionally create a second program files folder?

Upload a File to Jotti
Please visit http://virusscan.jotti.org/
Click on Browse… and navigate to the following file: C:\Program Files2\Raxco\PD80Install\patch.exe
Click Open and submit the file.
Please let me know the results.

Do the same for these files.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\SET22.tmp
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache\SET24.tmp
Yes, I installed perfect disk there so I could do a defrag… it doesn't work if I save it in the regular folder since it recognizes I've passed my trial version. That patch files belong to that program so I think that clears that. Since the repair I've only updated the computer through Microsoft update and I've had some trouble installing framework successfully but I finally fixed it now from looking on Microsoft FAQ. All those files came out clean
Hello

So the Raxco in the Program Files folders is the trial version, and the one in program Files2 is the full version? I could add the old folders for deletion, but would be worried I deleted the wrong one. Now you know they are there, you could do that manually. You will find one in C:\Program Files and another in C:\Program Files\Common Files.

No. I was blocked from installing perfect disk at first since I was trying to renew my trial period by uninstalling/installing my trial version but it found out that I've had it before in the normal program files folder so I tried saving it in a new one and it worked.

Combofix log in link like normal,

Hi

Congratulations, you appear to be malware free.

You may wish to keep hold of the Panda Online Scan as an extra on-demand virus-scanner.
If not you can uninstall it through Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs

Time for some housekeeping
  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the x and the /u, it needs to be there.

    [external image: Posted Image]
  • When shown the disclaimer, Select "2"

Run HijackThis, select Do a system scan only and place checks against the following entries (if they are still present):

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED Click on Fix Checked and exit HijackThis.

Here are some free programs I recommend, although you will not need them all.

Spybot Search and Destroy
Download it from here . Just choose a mirror and off you go.
Find here the tutorial on how to use Spybot properly here

Install Spyware Guard
Download it from here
Find here the tutorial on how to use Spyware Guard here

Install SpyWare Blaster
Download it from here
Find here the tutorial on how to use Spyware Blaster here

Install WinPatrol
Download it from here
Here you can find information about how WinPatrol works here

Make sure your Windows is ALWAYS up to date!

An unpatched Windows is vulnerable and even with the "best" Antivirus and Firewall installed, malware will find its way through.
So visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ to download and install the latest updates.

Update your Antivirus programs and other security products regularly to avoid new threats that could infect your system.

Please check out Tony Klein's article "How did I get infected in the first place?"

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

I'd be grateful if you could reply to this post so that I know you have read it and, if you've no other questions, the thread can be closed.
