[Resolved] Possible Browser Hijacker

Hi,
Recently (within the last week or so) I have noticed that when I click on a link provided by Google search results, my browser gets redirected to an advertising or porn site, often accompanied by popups. This is the only manifestation of the problem I have noticed; my home page, www.yahoo.com, remains unchanged. The problem happens using both Firefox and Internet Explorer.
I have scanned my system (both within and out of safe mode) using Avast, AdAware, SUPER Anti-Spyware, Webroot Spy Sweeper, AVG Anti-Spyware, Spybot Search & Destroy, and Norton AntiVirus, and none of these have been able to detect the problem.
I checked my HOSTS file and it is fine (127.0.0.1 localhost is the only entry).
I went into regedit and was able to locate and delete (under Internet Settings/History) one of the sites to which my browser was redirecting, cpxinteractive.com. Now my browser no longer redirects to adserving.cpxinteractive.com when I click on a Google result, but the problem persists with the browser being redirected to other sites (one of them being www.clckm.com, and who knows how many others).
While in the registry editor, I noticed in Internet Settings/History other entries with suspicious names (such as xxxtoolbar.com, xxxcounter.com, gator.com, 888.com, and many others). However, I was reluctant to delete them, as well, without 100% knowing what I was doing.

Lets try running combofix.exe
Download it from one of the links below:
Note:
It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop

Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

HELP!

I tried running combofix.exe, and for the last 13 hours it has been stuck in the blue AutoScan window displaying the "Deleting Files/Folders:" message. My desktop icons are missing and I don't want to shut down the computer before the program finishes, but the program won't make any progress.

Please advise ASAP, as I can't leave my computer on all week.

I was able to resolve the ComboFix.exe problem described above today by rebooting with F8 and selecting the last known good configuration. My system seems fine, except the time is now displaying as military time, and the date is displaying as 2007-12-14 instead of Friday, December 14, 2007. I don't know if I can safely adjust the time and date back to normal, or if this is a minor annoyance I'll have to live with.In terms of my original problem with Google, is there a remedy that you can suggest which doesn't involve using ComboFix? I don't want to go through that nightmare again.Thank you.

Lets run an F-Secure online scan.
    [*]Click HERE

    [*]Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Start scanning button. A window will pop up.

    [*]Allow the Active X control to be installed on your computer, then click the Accept button

    [*]Click Full System Scan and allow the components to download and the scan to complete.

    [*]If malware is found, check Submit samples to F-Secure then select Automatic cleaning

    [*]When cleaning has finitished, click Show report (this will open an Internet Explorer window containing the report)

    [*]Highlight and Copy (CTRL + C) the complete report, and Paste (CTRL + V) in a new reply to this post

    If Automatic cleaning with Submit samples hangs, click Cancel, then New Scan
      [*]When the cleaning option is presented, Uncheck Submit samples to F-Secure

Also, regarding ComboFix, I noticed that it installed C:\qoobox and contains a quarantine of a game called Sweetopia which I had downloaded, which apparently it labeled as a virus file. (Yesterday, after ComboFix had been hanging on the "Deleting Files/Folders" screen I had typed Ctrl+C and first said No to terminating the batch job, then quickly said Yes when I noticed it deleting the game, thus terminating ComboFix. Then I went into F8 mode from there to reset to last known good configuration). There is also a winlogonreg.dat file under Registry_backups of the Quarantine folder. I uninstalled ComboFix, which I'm happy to report restored my systray date and time to the normal appearance (i.e., non-military time, with the date written out as Sunday, December 16, 2007).

Upon rebooting after unintalling ComboFix, I experimented with some Google results and so far have not had my browser redirected (although a cpxinteractive popup did show up on one of the sites). I will have to experiment some more later to see if I get any browser redirections.

Be sure to keep SunJava, updated
In Add/Remove programs click on these and press *remove* if listed:
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 - 97.99Mb
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 2 - 143.00Mb
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 4 - 144.00Mb
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 5- 151.00Mb
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_04 - 130.00Mb
Or any other outdated J2SE
And viewpoint if found.
It is important to remove older versions as these are the ones with the holes in them.
You will be surprised when you go to add/remove to see all of the versions sitting there.

I went to Add/Remove Programs and removed Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v.1.4.2 (no other versions of J2SE appeared). I installed Java 6 Update 3 and then verified the installation using the Sun Java Test.
Using Add/Remove Programs, I also removed Viewpoint Manager and Viewpoint Media Player. I then deleted the C:\Program Files\Viewpoint folder (and contents).
