Last week i downloaded a player and ended up with security pop-ups saying I had worm.win32.netsky virus and spybot has found Mitfraud-c.msvps.

I get the black pop up box, the gray boxes telling me I have this worm and have to download security software, my explorer, my explorer goes to a website I don't want popping up rather than my home page.

My IT dept at my office wants to reimage my laptop but from what I'm reading it doesn't seem like it needs to be that drastic.

I've read the other posts and went so far as to try to download SmitfraudFix but get to the point of it being copied and I a get an error message saying: Cannot copy SmitfraudFix[1]: Access is denied.
Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.

I have continuous pop-ups and now after the last rebook my wallpaper has changed to this scary red with a white banner saying download security software now.

Ive never had a virus or anything like this before not on any computer i've owned. I'm so lost… I'm not sure what to do - I'm not secure enough to do attempt fixing this on my own and don't want to screw this up any further and lose all my data.

i'm really hoping someone can help me.
I have run a hijack log and pasted it below.

Any help would be so greatly appreciated.

Thank you!!!
Kathy

Download the trial version of AVG Anti-Spyware from here and install it. When the program has been installed, and you click the Finish button, AVG Anti-Spyware will open.

If the program does not automatically update itself during installation, or you are unsure whether it has done so, please do the following:
  • Click the Update icon at the top and under Manual Update click the Start update button.
  • The program will either update or inform you that no update was available.
  • It is essential that you get the update - keep trying until successful. (Note: If you have problems getting the update, you can download an installer for the full database from here (save it on your desktop). Once you have downloaded the installer, make sure that AVG Anti-Spyware is closed and then double-click on avgas-signatures-full-current.exe to install the database).
Please set up the program as follows:
  • Click the Shield icon at the top and under Resident shield is… click active. This should now
    change to inactive.
  • Click the Update icon and untick the automatic update option.
  • Click on Scanner on the toolbar.
  • Click on the Settings tab.
  • Under How to act? - make sure that Quarantine is selected.
  • Under How to scan? - All checkboxes should be ticked.
  • Under Possibly unwanted software - All checkboxes should be ticked.
  • Under Reports - Select Do not automatically generate reports.
  • Under What to scan? - Select Scan every file.
Close all open windows.
Do not run a scan yet.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter

This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. It will create a file named:
c:\rapport.txt

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Please post:
C:\rapport.txt
Thank you very much for your help I'm not able to get SmitfraudFix to finish. It downloads in seconds but when It gets to the point of copying, I get an error message: Cannot copy SmitfraudFix[1]: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.
Download ComboFix from Here to your Desktop.
  • Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you, combofix.txt. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick while its running. That may cause it to stall
OMG - I can download combofix and I can see the .exe file on my desk top but when I double click it - I get this error message: Combofix.exe is not a valid win32 appplication. Any thoughts???
Lets try uninstalling it and downloading it again
  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

    • [external image: Posted Image]
  • If shown the disclaimer, Select "2"

After the above:

Download ComboFix from Here to your Desktop.
  • Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you, combofix.txt. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick while its running. That may cause it to stall
I got another error message: Windows cannot find 'ComboFix'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click search. I'm not the most technical person but I can download a file and I can see when it shows up on my desk top. When I try downloading it again I get a message saying the file already exists and asks if I want to replace it. That leads me to believe that I have downloaded it but the uninstall can't find it.
You might have a infection that is blocking the install / running of these programs.

Lets try this:

* Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:
ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe
  • Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
  • This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
  • Once the short scan has finished, mark the drives that you want to scan.
  • Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
  • Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
  • Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
  • When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found: [external image: Posted Image]
  • If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable as you'll see in next image:
    [external image: Posted Image]
This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder if it can't be cured. (this in case if we need samples)
  • After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list
  • Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
  • Close Dr.Web Cureit.
  • Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
  • After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web you saved previously in your next reply.
Finally a little bit of sucess - it took several hours but I was able to run Dr Web and this is the log: Thank you very much for your help!!! inst.exe;C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AOL Downloads\triton_suite_install_6.0.28.3;Probably BACKDOOR.Trojan;Moved.; ADCFreeInstaller[1].exe;C:\Documents and Settings\bonik\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\GH2J6DEH;Trojan.Winfixer;Deleted.; 06-19-07 OSI 61833742S.xls;C:\Documents and Settings\bonik\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLK1D;XM.Fatum;Cured.; 07-26-07 ROCKWELL AUTOMATION INC M61131606S12.xls;C:\Documents and Settings\bonik\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLK1D;XM.Fatum;Cured.; 07-27-07 ADIC C323007.xls;C:\Documents and Settings\bonik\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLK1D;XM.Fatum;Cured.; 12-04-06 ROCKWELL AUTOMATION 61805319S0.xls;C:\Documents and Settings\bonik\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLK1D;XM.Fatum;Cured.; 12-17-06 ROCKWELL AUTOMATION INC Q60458203.xls;C:\Documents and Settings\bonik\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLK1D;XM.Fatum;Cured.; NOV 08 Regal-Beloit Corporation M60874293S36 (2).xls;C:\Documents and Settings\bonik\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLK1D;XM.Fatum;Cured.; NOV 08 Regal-Beloit Corporation M60874293S36.xls;C:\Documents and Settings\bonik\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLK1D;XM.Fatum;Cured.; NOV 08- KIMBERLY CLARK CORPORATION M61550241S5A (2).xls;C:\Documents and Settings\bonik\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLK1D;XM.Fatum;Cured.; NOV 08- KIMBERLY CLARK CORPORATION M61550241S5A.xls;C:\Documents and Settings\bonik\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLK1D;XM.Fatum;Cured.; Monr.xls;C:\Documents and Settings\bonik\My Documents\Monroe Clinic;XM.Fatum;Cured.; A0000014.DLL;C:\System Volume Information\_restore{A2287FFC-3121-4EA2-9036-CA6D1797D84A}\RP1;Adware.Msearch;Moved.; A0000015.DLL;C:\System Volume Information\_restore{A2287FFC-3121-4EA2-9036-CA6D1797D84A}\RP1;Adware.Msearch;Moved.; A0000017.DLL;C:\System Volume Information\_restore{A2287FFC-3121-4EA2-9036-CA6D1797D84A}\RP1;Adware.Msearch;Moved.; A0000018.DLL;C:\System Volume Information\_restore{A2287FFC-3121-4EA2-9036-CA6D1797D84A}\RP1;Adware.Msearch;Moved.; A0000080.dll;C:\System Volume Information\_restore{A2287FFC-3121-4EA2-9036-CA6D1797D84A}\RP1;Adware.Msearch;Moved.; admin3.vbe;C:\WINNT;Probably SCRIPT.Virus;Moved.; admin3_i.vbe;C:\WINNT;Probably SCRIPT.Virus;Moved.;

Next:

Close all open windows.
Do not run a scan yet.

C:\rapport.txt
still getting the same error on the smitfraudfix: it gets to 99% complete and when it tries to copy I get this error:

Starts fine:
Copying
Smitfraudfix[1].exe
from scw3dxcx to desktop

After a minute or so it errors to:

Cannot copy Smitfraudfix[1]: Access is denied
make sure the disk is not full or write protected
and that the file is not currently in use
OK. I'll use the Combo scan and give you a fix it a couple minutes.
Hang in there, we'll get it.

By the way, the Dr.Web scan shows a BACKDOOR.Trojan. If I forget to tell you after you're pc is clean, be sure to change all your passwords Not until I tell you you're clean though.
