Did you point it to save on the Desktop when trying the registry fixes? If so it should save it there and not in a Temp folder.
Save on: Desktop
File Name: fixme.reg
Save as Type: All files
Click: Save
"Cannot import C:\DOCUME~1\Desktop\fixme.reg: Error accessing the registry." and yes, it is saved in C>Documents and Settings> Desktop. I have not been saving in the Temp folder anymore
You need to have administrator rights. Try this: Right Click on the "my computer" icon on your desktop and select Manage > click the + sign to open Local Users and Groups> Click on Groups> Right Click on Administrators> Right Click on Properties> Select Add and add your user name.
After hitting Manage, the Computer Management window pops up Here's what it looks like Computer Management (Local) + System Tools + Storage + Services and Applications I opened up each of them and I did not see Local Users and Groups. Is is hiding from me or should it be readily visible?
I expanded the entire thing so you can know what I see: Computer Management (Local) - System Tools -Event Viewer Application Internet Explorer MSFWSVC Security System Windows OneCare -Shared Folders Shares Sessions Open Files - Performance Logs and Alerts Counter Logs Trace Logs Alerts Device Manager -Storage -Removable storace Media +Libraries Disk Defragmenter Disk Management -Services and APplications Services WMI Control +Indexing Service No local users and groups anywhere in sight
There is— the icons inside of it are labeled Component Services Computer Management Data Sources (ODBC) Microsoft.NET Framework 1.1 Configuration Performance Services Microsoft. New Framework 1.1 Wizards Event Viewer
Double click Computer Management to open it click the + sign to open Local Users and Groups> Click on Groups> Right Click on Administrators> Right Click on Properties> Select Add and add your user name. If that doesn't work you'll need to restart in Safe Mode > login as Administrator and then do the above.
It's the exact same as before with the set-up looking like the following Should I try to do this in safe mode? Computer Management (Local) - System Tools -Event Viewer Application Internet Explorer MSFWSVC Security System Windows OneCare -Shared Folders Shares Sessions Open Files - Performance Logs and Alerts Counter Logs Trace Logs Alerts Device Manager -Storage -Removable storace Media +Libraries Disk Defragmenter Disk Management -Services and APplications Services WMI Control +Indexing Service No local users and groups anywhere in sight
Hey LDTate,

The same was true for Safe Mode— there were no Local User and Groups to expand in the Computer Management screen.
I did a HJT scan in Safe Mode and the stuff you usually tell me to delete was not present (but does become present when scanning in normal mode).

I was also able to check my user account info and the log-on I use to sign on in normal mode is marked as Computer Administrator.

So this thing seems to be giving me limited access among changing all my settings. Now my Ipod isn't even recognized when plugged in to my computer!
help.

This HJT log is when I re-booted to normal mode again
