This is crazy

Please download the Fix_Protocol reg file from http://downloads.malwareremoval.com/Nel/FixP.zip and unzip it to your desktop.

Restart your computer in Safe Mode.

Press F8 after the Power-On Self Test (POST) is done. If the Windows Advanced Options Menu does not appear, try restarting and then pressing F8 several times after the POST screen.
Choose the Safe Mode option from the Windows Advanced Options Menu then press Enter.
This can take several miniutes to load.

Double click Fix_Protocol_zones_ranges.reg and allow it to merge with the registry.

Reboot your machine for the changes to take effect.

Post a new HJT log.
Here's my HJT log before I rebooted back into normal mode followed by a HJT log I just did:

Click HERE to download O15Fix.zip. Extract O15Fix.reg from the zip file and save it to the desktop. When done, double click the O15Fix.reg and when asked to merge say yes.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.

I keep getting an error when trying to do it in normal mode.
Should I do it in safe mode or will this just be reverted when I reboot?

What is the error?
Are you saving it to the desktop?.

Extract O15Fix.reg from the zip file and save it to the desktop

Go to: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC\HOSTS
You might need to Right Click on the hosts file and make sure read only isn't checked. If so, uncheck it.

It still a no go:
rename it HOSTS.OLD.

Reboot
Cannot import C:\DOCUME~1\Desktop\015Fix.reg: Error accessing the registry. is the message I've been consistently geting when trying to merge this. The only time it has even seemed successful was in Safe Mode, but then it just reverts when i reboot. I was even trying to save it on to various desk tops (when I push the Desktop button in the "Save As" screen, the computer saves it to the Temp file instead of the normal desktop). I can't seem to get around this. Can you help by manually directing me which desktop I should be saving to? I have these options, Administrator, All users, Application data, desktop, Jeffrey, Family, and Temp– the computer saves stuff I send to the desktop as to Temp as a default now (which I did not do and I wasn't even aware of until you told me). Also, all my files are in hidden mode. Help! I'm afraid I can't do the second part of your advice until I've successfully completed these registry fixes.
Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Go to: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC\HOSTS
You might need to Right Click on the hosts file and make sure read only isn't checked. If so, uncheck it.

rename it HOSTS.OLD.
It was read only, so I unchecked it and renamed it. It is now "Hosts.Old" and an Old file of 1KB. My computer doesn't recognize the application that's supposed to open the file though… i don't know if its supposed to. What should I do next?
Make Sure Internet Explorer is NOT open when trying this)

Launch HijackThis, click the 'Open'Misc Tools'Section -> 'Open hosts file manager'. Delete every line (select each line and click 'Delete line(s)') except the very first top lines beginning with # and: 127.0.0.1 localhost

Once finished, click the 'Open in Notepad' button. It should look like this:

# Copyright © 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost

When I went to Open hosts file manager, it said "Cannot find the hosts file. Would you like to create a new default hosts file?" Should I choose yes?
Here's my new HJT log and the document that came up after pressing "Open in Notepad" for the hosts– it looks
just like the example one you showed me–
