Ok, go to this address:
http://www.yousendit.com/

Do this for the first, slightly smaller file:
Type either your own email, or make one up in the first box. Leave the 'To' field blank. Browse to your file, and hit Send It. After it finishes uploading (shouldn't take too long), it should produce a link. Please post that link for me.

Hi saddler64

Please Right Click your Start button, and click Explore.
Next, locate and delete the following files and folders (if present):

C:\Documents and Settings\David Green\My Documents\downloads\setup.exe <
C:\WINDOWS\Fonts\a.zip <

If any of them aren't there then don't worry, but if you have a problem deleting one of them then please let me know.

Follow instructions from this link to clean out the contents of your Symantec Quarantine folder.

Your Java Runtime Environment is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 3.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 3, The Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language and save it to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially any web browsers.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u3-windowsi586.exe to install the newest version.
Please reboot your computer and post a fresh HijackThis log.

How are you running now?

Thanks,

Hi Have done everything on your list except clean out the contents of symantec quarantine folder. as the instructions on the link do not seem to apply to norton 360 which i am using. any ideas as to how i can remove the contents of quarantine folder? pc seems to be running a lot better now no pop ups and ie is not loading by its self thanks
Its hard to say as I don't have any Norton products myself.

Lets see if this works:

Double click the Norton AV icon in your system tray. Click on ANTIVIRUS and then on REPORTS and then on QUARANTINE where you will see the list of viruses caught. Now, if you had all those buttons, I'm hoping that you have something like an Empty All button or something similar. Have a little look around to see if you can find it or something that does the same.
hi have had a look around and found a list of viruses and trojan and cookies that had been detected but the only option there is to restore them??? visited norton help chat site and was told norton 360 does not have a quarantine folder? any ideas? thanks
Ok, I will check with some experts about this one for the best path of action. Other than that, is the computer running ok, any problems? Oh, and can I get a new HijackThis log as well please.

Hi saddler64

Have a look at this link and see if any of that helps you: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.n…000041213443506
Otherwise, you can just delete the files in this folder manually:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Norton AntiVirus\Quarantine\

Log looks good

Click Start >> Run, and then type ComboFix /u and hit enter.

Set correct settings for files that should be hidden in Windows XP
  • Click Start > My Computer > Tools menu (at top of page) > Folder Options > View tab.
  • Under "Hidden files and folders" if necessary select Do not show hidden files and folders.
  • If unchecked please checkHide protected operating system files (Recommended)
  • If necessary check "Display content of system folders"
  • If necessary Uncheck Hide file extensions for known file types.
  • Click OK

Now that you appear to be clean, theres just a few steps I'd like you to take to prevent any future infections.
  • System restore:
This is a good time to clear your existing system restore points and establish a new clean restore point:
    • Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
    • Select Create a restore point, and Ok it.
    • Next, go to Start > Run and type in cleanmgr
    • Select the More options tab
    • Choose the option to clean up system restore and OK it.

This will remove all restore points except the new one you just created.
Make sure you do this now, as your System Restore currently has infected files in it.

  • Use Mozilla Firefox or Opera as your internet browser.
These are more secure than Internet Explorer and can be downloaded for free from here:
    Download Mozilla FireFox
    Download Opera

  • Make sure you update your Anti-Virus software regularly, new viruses are being developed all the time.

  • Some more programs that it would be useful to have:
Download Spybot Search and Destroy 1.5 from here
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.

SpywareBlaster is another real-time scanner that prevents most spyware from even being installed.
    Freely available: Download SpywareBlaster

  • Download and install the free version of WinPatrol. This program protects your computer in a variety of ways and will work well with your existing security software. Have a look at this tutorial to help you get started with the program.
Also, please read this great article by Tony Klein: So How Did I Get Infected In First Place

Glad we could be of assistance.

Please reply to this thread once to more if you are satisfied so that we can mark the problem as resolved.

Stay Clean!

Hi, :D Thanks for your help in getting us clean. Unfortunately I still cannot find that quarantine folder to delete the files. So far, we have uninstalled combofix and put the correct settings for files that should be hidden in windows xp. Have not done any more (system restore point) yet as we are waiting to see if we need to delete these quarantine files first. Does this mean that computer is safe to use for log ins and passwords? Thanks again much appreciated  Saddler64
Well, if you can't find this folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\Norton AntiVirus\Quarantine\
Then thats a little weird, but not a problem.
I only asked you to delete them as they are no longer necessary, and it would prevent situations like the hugs Kaspersky log we had earlier.

Yep, your computer should be safe for logging in and passwords now

If you have no other queries or problems, then we'll wrap this thread up now.

Glad I could help :)
