I have the infamous winlogon.exe infection and can't seem to get rid of it. I've used Adaware and some various on-line scanners (X-cleaner I believe was one of them) but to no avail. I tried running Spybot SD, but I think its preventing it from installing properly. Anyway, here is the HJT log. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Scotty. Well, I downloaded combofix and ran it. It launched OK and I just left it running while I ate. It was on like step 40 or something when I left it. Came back and the pc was frozen on the WinXP load screen. Repeated on/offs and it does the same thing, the blue scroll bar will move for about 15 secs, then freeze. None of the safe modes work either. Any ideas?
Hi Im going to find out what's happened. This is unusual, but in the meantime, I take it you have access to a working computer. Do you have the facilities to write to CD or a USB stick/pen drive?
I sure do. I'm at my work computer when I write and I transfer data between this one and the afflicted one with a CD-R. I also have a thumb-drive if needed (5 gig).
Hi. Yes I sure did. I tried normal safemode, with networking, w/o networking, and last known good config. My Sony Vaio did not come with the original windows disc, but I did make a "disaster recovery" disc soon after I bought it (back in '03). I believe I can reload the OS from it, but it'll clear my hard-drive in doing so…
CF has a few recovery options. This works 95% of the time. :)

follow the instructions here for downloading and running the iso of the recovery console:
http://www.techsupportforum.com/1031832-post6.html

When you get to that stage, at the recovery console's command prompt, type each of lines:

C:\Windows> CD ERDNT\SUBS
C:\Windows\ERDNT\subs> BATCH ERDNT.CON
C:\Windows\ERDNT\subs> EXIT

Hopefully then the machine will boot, let me know how you get on.
Make sure that you burn the iso to a blank CD.[/QUOTE

OK, I downloaded the iso file and burned it to CD, no problem there. My pc however won't boot from it, like its not even in the drive. The boot order I found in my BIOS is 1. the DVD/CD drive 2. my floppy drive 3. the HD 4. 'disabled'. When I disable everything except #1, I get a screen that lists my PCI devices and says "Disk Boot Failure, insert System disk and press ENTER"… any new ideas?
You must have burnt the cd wrongly. It must be burnt as a bootable CD.

I use Nero. So, I'll decribe the steps I took to burn one using Nero.

1. Launch Nero
2. Click on the File menu & select Open..
3. Browse to where the downloaded ISO is located & select it
4. Nero automatically recognises the ISO as a bootable ISO image.
5. Burn the CD

What type of burner software are you using?

OK, initially I was just burning using xp. Now I've used Sonic DigitalMedia LE v7, which I was able to specifically tell burn the iso image and make it bootable. When I used this disc I got the PCI device listing again and a message that said:

Boot from ATAPI CD-ROM :
Hard Disk
Missing operationg system

After that the keyboard was frozen. I then downloaded a little program called ISO Recorder v2 from the web. Booting from the disc this program made gave me a garbbled screen with a bunch of random characters and colors…. truly bizzare.

Any burner software you guys would recomend try? I couldn't seem to find a free trial Nero version…
