Hi,

It's been a long time since last I was here, but I feel like check'in in.

I recently used my external HDD to backup a friend's stuff before formating the drive, I fear that I've gotten some viruses through it.

First I found a fake "bonjour service" that I removed from services and programfiles. That made my computer stable again.
Today I used the external HDD again, and my computer got unstable. But this time it wasn't "bonjour service", I'm still not sure what it is.
Anyway, I took an Adspy search in HJT, and found "05EE1EEF". I googled it, and used this topic for removing it: Click ME!

Now, have I cleaned it all or is there some nasty malware left?

EDIT: Well, I certainly know that it is infected. Norton and AVG Anti-Spyware is not working properly, and scanning in safemode restarts the computer
Hello and welcome to the forums

I suggest you do this:

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Next:

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser

Please go to http://virusscan.jotti.org , click on Browse, and upload the following file for analysis:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\prfh0414.dat

Then click Submit. Allow the file to be scanned, and then please copy and paste the results here for me to see.

If Jotti is too busy you can try these.

http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus.html

http://www.virustotal.com/en/indexf.html
That was the only thing that didn't look right. Looks OK.

If you want we can run a online scan.

B]Lets run an F-Secure online scan it will scan for Viruses, Spyware and RootKits:
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Start scanning button. A window will pop up.
  • Allow the Active X control to be installed on your computer, then click the Accept button
  • Click Full System Scan and allow the components to download and the scan to complete.
  • If malware is found, check Submit samples to F-Secure then select Automatic cleaning
  • When cleaning has finitished, click Show report (this will open an Internet Explorer window containing the report)
  • Highlight and Copy (CTRL + C) the complete report, and Paste (CTRL + V) in a new reply to this post
If Automatic cleaning with Submit samples hangs, click Cancel, then New Scan
  • When the cleaning option is presented, Uncheck Submit samples to F-Secure
  • Click Automatic cleaning
  • When cleaning has finitished, click Show report (this will open an Internet Explorer window containing the report)
  • Highlight and Copy (CTRL + C) the complete report, and Paste (CTRL + V) in a new reply to this post
Note: This scan will only work with Internet Explorer.
You must be logged on a administrator rights to run this scan.
The scan may take a few hours.

Also let me know how the computer is running now.
Hi LDTate, I tried to scan, but everytime I scanned for about 20 min, the computer would freeze, crash or reboot. Avg anti-spyware chrashed as usual, any type of antivirus scan crashes the computer. What I did see though, was that before it froze the last time, F-secure found 1 virus, and 1 spyware. There were also about 6 skipped files.
Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

File::
C:\WINDOWS\iun6002.exe

Save this as Save this as "CFScript"

[external image: Posted Image]

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe

Unplug your internet connection.

Reboot your computer into SafeMode
You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears.
Use your up arrow key to highlight SafeMode then hit enter.

C:\Documents and Settings\Mikael\Cookies\mikael@statistik-gallup[1].txt -> TrackingCookie.Statistik-gallup : Cleaned. C:\Documents and Settings\Mikael\Cookies\[removed][1].txt -> TrackingCookie.Webtrends : Cleaned. All that for 2 cookies? Maybe by killing that bad one helped. How's it running now?
I can't come up with another thing than the fact that avg only works in safe mode. Other than that, I don't see any symptoms (not that I really did see any before either).
I really think it's only suppose to run in Safe Mode.
  • Click START then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /u in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.
    • [external image: Posted Image]
  • If shown the disclaimer, Select "2"

Here's my usual all clean post

Log looks good :D

You need to create a new Clean restore point.

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
Check "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.
  • Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
    • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
    • Click once on the Security tab
    • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
    • Click once on the Custom Level button.
      • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
      • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
      • Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
      • Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
      • Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
      • Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
      • When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
      • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
    • Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
  • Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperative that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week
(Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

  • Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer.
Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over.
I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients.
Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:

    Understanding and Using Firewalls

  • Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly.
This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer.
If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site
until there are no more critical updates.

  • Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option.
This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection.
You should also scan your computer with this program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware , Malware, and Hijackers
  • Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will add a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer
settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

  • IE-SPYAD puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all.

Using IE-SPYAD to help block unwanted sites and activities

  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly.
Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
Only run one Anti-Virus and Firewall program.

I would also suggest you read this:
So how did I get infected in the first place?
by Tony Klein
Hi LDTate,

Thanks for all the help, especially the FAST  replies :D

I really think it's only suppose to run in Safe Mode.

I strongly dissagree here though. Avg Anti-Spyware is ment as a allaround anti-spyware program to be ran togheter wit an anti-virus program. Comming with (in the trial period) activeshield which don't run in safemode.

Well, I don't have that tab :S
Not that I care though, cus I never use it anyways. Just messes all configurations up, just my opinion ;)

Well now, do you think I should go with the avg problem to, "other computer problems"? or is it possible that something is blocking it?
Alright, it's just that it has always worked before these problems. It worked before the bonjour service, not when when the bonjour service was there, worked when bonjour service was removed, don't work now after the external hdd got replugged :S But if you say the computer is clean, I'll accuse something else than viruses for messing it up :P Thanks anyway :)
