It looks like you have quite a few tray programs loading up on startup. I would imagine this will slow down your computer tremendously, especially in loading windows, but so too in general usage.
Please work through the following resource, especially the Remove Autostart Programs section:
Restore Your Computer's Performance with Windows XP
You may update us on on how you fare and attach a new HJT log if you wish, This will allow us to make sure you got all of the unnecessary startup entries.
I'm not trying to sound unapproachable, but please if you don't mind it, let's try to keep the discussion in the thread. You can PM me, but it won't be to the benefit of those that may happen upon this thread at some point in the future. Besides, if it's related to the thread, I'll post it anyways.
Thanks for your response ( I like your quote). I downloaded the autoruns systernals software. I have no idea which to check other than a couple of them. Couldn't find a way to copy it to you.
Any suggestions??
Have you completed all of the other items on the page already? If not, I would suggest doing that first, as it may ease the process somewhat.
Apart from that, in autoruns you would most be concerned with the Logon and Winlogon tabs. Use the "Hide Microsoft Entries" option to get a trimmer list. Search for the filename in the list of startup entries (link in the previously posted article). If it is unnecessary, uncheck/untick the entry. Do not delete it unless you are very sure you know what it is and that you won't need it at any point.
Yeah I did everything except adjust the autostarts much. The problem still continues. I wasn't confident regarding most of those itemsI tried to upload hjt notepad and got error message:
Upload failed. You are not permitted to upload this type of file
Hmmm, well I guess then just paste it in again and I'll save it as a text file and attach it as before. I'll look into it. I am assuming you were attempting to upload the actual text file, rather than HJT itself or the notepad program.

Removed HJT Log Text and uploaded as attached file.
Thanks, I'm still seeing the following unnecessary entries: SunJavaUpdateSched
UpdateManager
DVDLauncher
Dell QuickSet
HP Software Update
Adobe Reader Speed Launcher
igfxpers
DwlClient
Un-check/tick these items in Autoruns and restart your computer. Please advise us on your system's status.
Also, delete the following two items from Start | All Programs | Startup: Microsoft Office
QuickBooks Update Agent
Note: These are just shortcuts that run on startup and will not actually delete any programs.
Go to Start | Run, type services.msc, and press Enter. Right-click the "Ad-Aware 2007 Service" and choose Properties. Change the Startup type value to "Manual", stop the service, and click OK. This will allow the service to start when needed, not when you turn on your system.
Also try disabling/uninstalling unnecessary add-ons in Firefox, if it is slow too.
Thank you that helped a little bit…but the problem still persists. Apparently these Dell Inspiron 1150 have a cooling problem.
This one heats up and shuts down, have to be careful to not have the vent fan on your lap not covered.
Do you think that might have something to do with it?
Appreciate your help
Yes, heat would be a factor in determining not only how your streaming media runs, but also your system as a whole. If your system overheats, you may need to take care of that issue first. Get an air duster and blow out the fans and vents. Make sure all vents are unblocked. Maybe think about investing in a laptop cooling pad. Also, when you have the laptop plugged in to the AC Adapter, take out the battery when it is fully charged. This will not only help the battery life, but also lower the amount of heat generated by the laptop.
I downloaded a software to monitor the heat and other functions. After vacuuming out and blowing out the fan, the temperature is doing well staying at about 55-58C. The video streaming starts stuttering when the CPU load goes up to 100. It is doing much better now, it seems. Does the CPU load indicate anything that I can modify?
Video stuttering at 100% CPU load is to be expected, as video has high resource requirements. Run the PC Pitstop Full Tests and post a Tech Express link here. This should tell us a bit more information.
Hi,
I think what Ax was suggesting was that you followed the recommendations in the report as far as you could and then run another report.
Some further thoughts for you,
1 Ad Aware 2007 is an excellent application, but if running from startup consumes a lot of your system Ram
2 You have out of data Java on your machine, it would be best to uninstall all old versions (that have vulnerabilities in them) and install the latest version 6 update 3.
3 Lots of your "blue" entries in the results of your Pit report are not necessary to run from startup and you may like to consider disabling them from startup and only running them when required)
4 If you look at the list of software that have installed on your machine (in Control Panel >Add/Remove Programs) it would be worth while considering if you really need them all…if you do fine…but any unnecessary ones are only really clogging things up. So you might like to consider uninstalling some.
