Downloaded something few days ago without being caution and I think I installed some pesty adware in my comp. Tried using Spybot S&D to get rid of it, but it doesn't seem to want to go. I'm not sure if there are any other malicious things that might be installed in my comp along with the adware, and I'm not experienced with Hijackthis. I've been going through forums, and saw the most people ended up posting a hijackthis log. Here's mine:

Hi iPong and welcome to the forums.

My name is Dave. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can sometimes take a while to research so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
  • I will working be on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

Download and Run ComboFix
  • Download this file from below:
    Here
  • Disconnect from the Internet, than disable your Anti-virus and any real-time Anti-spyware monitors that are running.
  • Then double click Combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply with a new HijackThis log.
Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall
Note 2: Remember to re-enable your Anti-virus and Anti-spyware before reconnecting to the Internet.
Hey there. Thanks for your reply. Sorry for my late reply, I've only just gotten back to my computer yesterday. I've tried downloading the combofix.exe file and executed it. For some reason, it doesn't run past Stage 6 of the process and the program stalls after that. I've tried restarting the program 3 or 4 times and each attempt seems to be the same. I've followed you're instruction to disconnect my computer from the network and to not touch the window of the program but nothing happens after stage 6. Would you happen to know why? Thanks alot for your assistance! iPong
Did you disable Ad-Aware before scanning? If not try that.

If that doesn't work….this system is pretty severely infected. Part of the reason is you have no Antivirus program in place. I would advise you to put one of the free ones I advise in place ASAP, update it, and run a full system scan. Then try Combofix again.

Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future. Here is a list of some free and evaluation versions to try: AVG AntiVirus
Avast Antivirus Home Version–Free
Antivir Personal - Free
Sorry. I forgot to check back. It still doesn't work. I installed AVG anti virus program, and did a system scan. It found quite a few trojans on my comp! :( It said it's healed, but I still get IE random popups on each site I go to. And with the combofix program, it still only gets stuck at stage 6. Sigh… Any idea why?
No errors, it just stops at stage 6 and if I try to close window, I need to go through the whole 'End Now' process, the one where a program is not responding
As it has been over 2 weeks since you posted your last HJT log can you post a new one. In fact, I would like a little more detailed look so can you do the following (HJT with be part of the reports):

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt – please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.
You may need to make more than one post so the logs don't get cut off.

I'll post the DSS log soon
This is weird. About 3/4 through the DSS.exe system scan process, an error occurs and I'm forced to 'End Now'. I've tried this a few times, and it stops at the same position each time. I've tried closing all applications, turning off my network, and turning off my anti virus, all at the same time, but this still seems to happen. dayam… I must be really badly infected! Thanks alot for helping me though this. Sigh… any idea why this happens?
Ok well don't worry about DSS. We'll have a go at some of this manually and see if we can make things a little better.

First, your Winzix program contains spyware and should be removed. Use Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel to do so. Also, if you see the "sponsor" program also remove that. That program is called "Cidhelp", or anything with CID in it.

Next, I see purityscan malware and need to identify some things.

Copy everything inside the quote box below (starting with dir) and paste it into notepad. Go up to "File > Save As" and click the drop-down box to change the "Save As Type" to "All Files". Save it as findfile.bat on your Desktop.

dir D:\Program Files\Common Files\a?sembly /a h > files.txt
notepad files.txt

Locate findfile.bat on your Desktop and double-click on it. It will open Notepad with some text in it. Please post the contents of that Notepad here.

Now, please do the same with this one:
D:\Documents and Settings\Adam\My Documents\??crosoft

Reboot and post a new HiJackThis log.
I have just tried to do what you have informed me to.

The cmd program says "The system cannot find the path specified"

I'll post another HijackThis log:
