wildhorse,

Welcome to the forum. Please do not attach any more reports, just copy and paste them into the thread.

You have some issues going on that we need to fix. Go to your Add Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall both these programs, there heavily linked to advertising and the one for games keeps track of your keystrokes. Let me know if they would not uninstall.

C:\Program Files\NetRatings
C:\Program Files\Gamevance

Your also infected with the SDbot worm, let run this tool. It has to be run in Safemode to be effective

SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
  • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

Let me see the SDfix log and a New HJT log please
 I got the first part done am going to run Hijack this in just a few min and post it when done HijSDFix: Version 1.112 Run by [removed] on Thu 10/25/2007 at 09:49 AM Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] Running From: C:\SDFix Safe Mode: Checking Services: Restoring Windows Registry Values Restoring Windows Default Hosts File Rebooting… Normal Mode: Checking Files: Trojan Files Found: C:\WINDOWS\xpupdate.exe - Deleted Removing Temp Files… ADS Check: C:\WINDOWS No streams found. Run this system cleaner.

Download CCleaner from here to clean temp files from your computer.
  • Double click on the file to start the installation of the program.
  • Select your language and click OK, then next.
  • Read the license agreement and click I Agree.
  • Click next to use the default install location. Click Install then finish to complete installation.
  • Double click the CCleaner shortcut on the desktop to start the program.
  • On the "Windows" tab, under "Internet Explorer," uncheck "Cookies" if you do not want them deleted. (If deleted, you will likely need to reenter your passwords at all sites where a cookie is used to recognize you when you visit).
  • If you use either the Firefox or Mozilla browsers, the box to uncheck for "Cookies" is on the Applications tab, under Firefox/Mozilla.
  • Click on the "Options" icon at the left side of the window, then click on "Advanced."
deselect "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours."
  • Click on the "Cleaner" icon on the left side of the window, then click Run Cleaner to run the program.
  • Caution: It is not recommended that you use the "Issues" feature unless you are very familiar with the registry as it has been known to find legitimate items.
  • After CCleaner has completed its process, click Exit.
*NOTE* CCleaner deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders. If you have anything in a temp folder, back it up or move it to a permanent folder prior to running CCleaner!

  • Your Java is out of date and leaving your system vulnerable.
  • Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any previous versions of Java (J2SE Runtime Environment)
  • It should have an icon next to it:
    [external image: Posted Image]
    Select it and click Remove.
  • Reboot your system.
  • Then go to the Sun Microsystems and install the update
  • Java Runtime Environment Version 6 Update 3 <–This is what you need to download and install.
  • If you chose the online installation, it will prompt you to run the program.
  • If you chose the offline installation, you will be prompted to save the file and you can run it from wherever you saved it.
  • Then after install you can verify your installation here Sun Java Verify
I like to to do the offline installation and save the setup file in case I may need it in the future

Post a new HJT log and lets make sure its all gone and let me know how your system is running now please.
Thanks again for your help Ken,
Here is the new report for hijack this,
so far so good it seems to run faster and the IE is closing without giving me a hard time.
If it starts acting up again I will let you know if that is ok with you.
I will never be able to let you know how much I thank you for this.
So from the bottom and top of my heart I do appriciate all the help.
Karin :D

Karin,

Your going to make me cry  Your log looks fine

We usually close the threads when we are done after about a week or so, so if you have problems again you can post back in that time period, if the thread is closed you can either start a new topic and we have a great staff that can help you or if you prefer you can PM me and I can reopen this thread.

Malware Complaints
Are you mad ? I mean really mad, seething mad, so mad your ready to spit, mad that you have taken your hard earned dollars to buy a computer only to have some Miscredents, Dirt Bags and Cyber Criminals install a malicious program on your computer without your knowledge or consent. You can post your complaint at the above site. If you live in the U.S.A. you can also report your grievance to your State Attorney Generals Office and the Federal Trade Commission's Bureau of Consumer Protection.

Here are some free programs to install, all free and highly regarded by the fine people in the Malware Removal Community
  • Spybot Search and Destroy 1.5
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.
  • Spyware Blaster It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed.
  • Spyware Guard It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • IE-Spyad
IE-Spyad places over 4000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads
(cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • Firefox 2.0 It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and
painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.
  • Zone Alarm Here is a free Firewall from Zone Labs, I
wouldn't access the internet without it.

Ken

Karin,

Lets do this.

Please download and install AVG Anti-Spyware Free to your desktop.
  • Once you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
  • Once the setup is complete you will need run AVG and update the definition files.
  • On the main screen select the icon Update then select the Update now link.
  • Next select the Start Update button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • Once the update has completed select the Scanner icon at the top of the screen, then select the Settings tab.
  • Once in the Settings screen click on Recommended actions and then select Quarantine <– Dont forget this
  • Under Reports
  • Select Automatically generate report after every scan
  • Un-Select Only if threats were found <– Don't forget this

IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while ewido is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning process:

  • Select the Scanner icon at the top and then the Scan tab then click on Complete System Scan.
  • AVG will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
  • Once the scan is complete do the following:
  • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select Apply all actions
  • Next select the Reports icon at the top.
  • Select the Save report as button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system <–Don't forget this
  • make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important, I need to see that log.
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware Free

Run Panda's ActiveScan from here and perform a full system scan. This will only run with Internet Explorer
  • Once you are on the Panda site click the "Scan your PC" button
  • A new window will open…click the big "Check Now" button
  • Enter your Country
  • Enter your State/Province
  • Enter your e-mail address and click send
  • Select either Home User or Company
  • Click the big Scan Now button
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It will take a couple minutes)
  • If you are on a slow connection it will take about 15 minuites for the scanner to load.
  • Click on "Local Disks" to start the scan
  • Once scan is done, click "see report" then "save report"
  • Save the log someplace you can find
  • Reboot
  • Post the Panda scan results in your next reply

Karin, these scans will dig deeper and if they come up clean it may be a windows or software issue and at that point I can direct you to some windows support sites that deal with this sort of thing

Lets see what they find.

Post the AVG report, the Panda report and a new HJT log please
Ok here we go again there was stuff found so here are the logs. I beleve the answer is in one of these scans.
thanks again for the help.

Karin,

Your log looks fine and all the scans found where cookies , backups made by SDfix and a couple of items it did find it removed.

Lets cover our bases and run this quick scan

Please download SmitfraudFix
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).

Here is the log for Smitfraud, Also I just put in the Norton that is offered by my DSL provider for free. That might help the problem also. Karin, You did not post the entire Smitfraud log, the part that shows if the infection is present is missing, post the entire log please. You already have Norton installed , there is no need to install the free one as two AV programs can cause you some trouble, with AV software, more is not better. Ken :)
Ken, I just wanted to let you know since you have last writen me a lot of different things have been deleted and found with the spyware and malware that you have directed me to. Along with some reconfigureing of my main web browser it seems to be working alot better now. Again I just wanted to thank you for all the work you have put into helping me get this fixed. Thank again, Karin :D
Karin, Glad things are better but you need to to run Option 1 for smitfraud and post the entire log along with a new HJT log so we be sure all is well.
