I am working on a friends computer from my home. I have broadband cable connection.
They use earthlink DSL with IE 7 on a Dell dimension desktop.
60G hard drive with 20G backup
XP SP2 home edition
Pentium 4 3.06GHz with .99G RAM

They said any page they typed into internet would get redirected.
Windows Defender identified the BrowserModifier:Win32/Fotomoto. WD says it removes it but a new scan shows it's still there even after restart and rescan.
I cannot connect to the internet at all and now WD is starting to act funny as in not being able to display the names of running processes or startup programs, just shows the icons.

I would like to clean this up without having to wipe the disk. Can this system be saved?
Thanks for any help.
