hi Angel82, that codec changes your dns lookups. what happens is if you use a search engine most likely you will get redirected to some webpage. i dont see anything like this in the log. is that whats happening? the "codec' package could have changed by now though. try this: go to start>run and type in the window cmd click enter at the prompt type in: nslookup >log.txt there is a space after nslookup, click enter. you should find a log.txt file here: C:\documents and settings\your user profile please post the log in next reply. or just write down and post what you get when you type nslookup. should only be a ip address. —————————————————- i see a antivirus, do you have a antispyware app on your computer. maybe one is bundled with that trend micro suite? shelf life
Hi, I havent had any problems but my antivirus picked it up when i downloaded it and told me to delete it if it wasnt needed, i didnt actually save it to the computer when i downloaded it, i just wanted to make sure there was nothing wrong. I did that log like you said and this is what come up; Default Server: BigPond.bigpond Address: 10.0.0.138 So now im hoping that its all good, thanks for helping btw its greatly appreciated.
hi Angel82,

if your not getting web page redirects or other problems then you are probably safe. the "codec" usually redirects web pages by adding its own dns lookup.there is usually a indication of it in the hjt log also which you dont have. your dns lookup looks fine also– i have a example of it on my website:

http://security-central.us/SafeHex/trojan_downloader.htm

cruise around and make sure all is good, if not post back.
one of my prevention "tips" is to never install software because a web site requests it.
see link below.

happy safe surfing out there.
