Hello Heffer58 :)

My name is SNOWHITE and I will be helping you with your Malware problem.

Please follow the steps below exactly in the order they are written:

Step #1

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

NOTE: If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually C:), and launch from there.

NOTE: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/proc…processutil.htm

Step #2

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt – please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.
What DSS will do:
  • create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.
  • clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
  • check some important areas of your system and produce a report for your analyst to review. DSS automatically runs HijackThis for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have HijackThis installed.
In your next post please include the following reports:
  • VundoFix report
  • SDFix report
  • New HijackThis log (run after ComboFix has finished its work.)
  • dss scan reports main.txt and extra.txt
Let me know how the things went.

Please also make sure that you uncheck Word Wrap before copying the report and pasting them back here (in notepad click on Format and uncheck Word Wrap)

Regards,

Step 2

I tried to do the dss but it said there was an error and it froze.
Hello Heffer58,

Please follow the steps below exactly in the order they are written:

Step #1

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, double-click on SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

Post back with SmitfraudFix report, and new Hijackthis log run after SmitfraudFix has finished its work and after you have rebooted in Normal Mode.

I tried to do the dss but it said there was an error and it froze.

Can you tell me what is the error message your getting while trying to run dss?

Regards,
here is the scan from combofix:

Hello Heffer58, sorry for the delay.

Please remove the version of combofix you have, it is very outdated. After you remove Combofix please follow these steps:

Step #1

Click start > Run > in the empty edit box copy&paste this line :

"%userprofile%\desktop\dss.exe" /daft

Read the disclaimer and click OK.
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • Place a checkmark next to the following entries in case they appear:

.bat
.cmd
.inf
.ini
.reg
.txt
.vbs
  • Click the Fix button.
  • Re-scan and save a logfile. By default, it will save as daft.txt
  • I'll need that log later.
If everything is ok again, it should display the "all associations ok message"

Post back with the contents of daft.txt.

Regards

Hello Heffer58,

Did you get any error warnings while running combofix?
You are running combofix from temporary folder
C:\Documents and Settings\Aryeh\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\QBPVEXI0\ComboFix[1].exe <– please move combofix on Desktop, also if you haven't yet, remove older versions of combofix. After you have done this, follow these steps:

Step #1

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into it:

File::
C:\WINDOWS\sysupd.exe

Registry::
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\SysUpd]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar]
"{23ED2206-856D-461A-BBCF-1C2466AC5AE3}"=-
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\WebBrowser]
"{23ED2206-856D-461A-BBCF-1C2466AC5AE3}"=-
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{23ED2206-856D-461A-BBCF-1C2466AC5AE3}]

Save this as "CFScript"

[external image: Posted Image]

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe

This will start ComboFix again. After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply.
