Thank s for any help
Hi bmwdave and welcome to the forums.

My name is Dave. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can sometimes take a while to research so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
  • I will working be on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

The main thing I see from your HJT log are several rogue security programs. These programs will give you false identifications of malware using that as a goad to purchase them. Please do the following so I can see which are installed.

We are going to use HJT to create a list of your currently installed programs.1. Open HijackThis and click on the Config… button in the "Other stuff" section (lower right hand corner).
2. Click on the Misc Tools button.
3. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager… button.
4. Click on the Save list… button.
5. Save the file uninstall_list.txt to a convinient location. This should open Notepad with the list.
6. Please Copy and Paste the list into your next reply.

Hi Dave,

You have several "security" programs that are either rogue or were once on the rogue list, along with some other suspect "security" tools. I recommend you remove all of these but it's up to you. There are excellent, free, proven tools out there that I can safely recommend. Check the following link for more information on some of these rogue programs. When we're done I'll recommend some excellent safe tools.

http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm

—————————————————-

You are running HijackThis from a temporary directory. I recommend that you move HJT to it's own permanent folder so any backups that HJT makes will not be accidently deleted.

Please do the following:Create a new permanent folder in a convenient location that you will remember. To do this: Open Windows Explorer.
Select the drive or folder that you would like to put HJT
From the menu select File > New > Folder
Rename the folder to something you will remember (ie HJT, HijackThis, ect…)
Now move HJT to the new folder that you created.
—————————————————-

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:
* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.
Please reverse this process once the fix is complete.

—————————————————–

Go to Add or Remove Programs and uninstall the following if present.
Click Start > Control Panel > Double Click Add or Remove Programs:

SpywareBot 1.5
Search Defender for Spyware Begone 2.0

—————————————————-

Run HijackThis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these (if still present):

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SpywareBot] C:\Program Files\SpywareBot\SpywareBot.exe -boot
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PC-Checkup] "C:\PC-Checkup\PCCheckUp.exe" -mini
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NoTrace] "C:\Program Files\No Trace\NoTrace.exe" -mini
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SpywareBot] C:\Program Files\SpywareBot\SpywareBot.exe -boot
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Search Defender] "C:\Program Files\Search Defender for Spyware Begone\SearchDefender.exe"
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Spyware Begone] "C:\spywarebegone\SpywareBeGone.exe" -FastScan

Then close all windows except this one and press Fix checked.

——————————————————

Using Windows Explorer delete the following folders if found:

C:\Program Files\SpywareBot
C:\PC-Checkup
C:\Program Files\No Trace
C:\Program Files\Search Defender for Spyware Begone
C:\spywarebegone

P2P PROGRAMS

IMPORTANT I notice there are signs of one or more P2P (Person to Person) File Sharing Programs on your computer.

Napster

I'd like you to read the Guidelines for P2P Programs where we explain why it's not a good idea to have them.

My recommendation is you go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the programs listed above.

But it is up to you.

———————————————————

Update Java Runtime:

NOTE:You have several old Java versions still showing in Add/Remove Programs. Even though they are not technically installed they can still leave vulnerabilities. They should all be removed before installing the updated version.

You are using an old version of Java. Sun's Java is sometimes updated in order to eliminate the exploitation of vulnerabilities in an existing version. For this reason, it's extremely important that you keep the program up to date, and also remove the older more vulnerable versions from your system. The most current version of Sun Java is: Java Runtime Environment Version 6 Update 3.
  • Go to http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
  • Click on the link named Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 3
  • Click on the radio button to Accept License Agreement
  • Click on Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language and save the downloaded file to your hard disk
  • Go to Start => Control Panel => Add or Remove Programs
  • Uninstall all old versions of Java (Java 2 Runtime Environment, JRE or JSE)
  • Reboot your computer
  • Delete the folder C:\Program Files\Java if present
  • Install the new version by running the newly-downloaded file, and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Reboot your computer

———————————————————-

Reboot, post a new HJT log, and let me know how it runs at this point.

Sure you don't have it any more? Shows up in your installed programs:

AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5

It is a good program. The free version does not provide real time scanning but is good for one time occasional scans. I use it a couple of times a month myself. It's up to you. If you do want to remove it then use Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel to remove it properly.

Let me know how it's running please.
I like avg as well will leave it .System is running better . Do you have any recommend system tools or spyware tools that are safe to use and dont screw up your computer ? again thanks for the help David B
Yes, in addition to updating and running your Antivirus I would recommend considering some or all of these free tools. All are safe and effective. I would highly recommend putting in a Firewall first.

Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly. Here are some free and evalutation versions that provide better security than the Windows Firewall.Sunbelt Personal Firewall
Outpost Firewall
For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some other available ones see the link below:
Understanding and Using Firewalls

Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly or set your computer to receive automatic updates. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Spybot: Search And Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.
A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware , Malware, and Hijackers

Install Ad-Aware - Ad-Aware SE You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.
A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Using Ad-aware to remove Spyware, Malware, & Hijackers from Your Computer

Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.
A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

Install SpywareGuard - SpywareGuard provides a real-time protection solution against spyware that is a great addition to SpywareBlaster's protection method.
A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Using SpywareGuard to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

Use IESpy-Ad -
IESpy-Ad will block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email. Instructions for set up and use can be found at the website.

Update all of your Anti-Malware programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed and the ones you are currently running regularly. Without regular updates you Will Not be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Here is a great link to a post here on securing your PC after an attack.
