hi again, ive just downloaded winpatrol on your recommendation, but what actually is it and what does it do, its brought up a list of programs that launch on startup and asks me if i want to remove them or not, but i have no idea what some of the programs even are, and no idea whether they should launch on startup or not, or even whether i need them on my system or not. The help section isnt very informative so its not very user friendly for the lay-person.
Hi

Winpatrol is a safer option to msconfig for controlling what starts up with Windows. normally, each alert comes with an Info button.

A lot of it is personal choice, some, like AVG and SuperAntiSpyware are needed. Others like Quicktime, and Messenger are not and can be disabled and run only when needed.

Heres a list of those considered Unnecessary and Optional.
NeroCheck.exe <——-Nero, checks driver status.
Logi_MwX.Exe <——Logitech mouse Driver, needed for the added functions, such as Smartmove
qttask.exe <——-Qiucktime Player
RealPlay.exe <—–Real Player
SSBkgdupdate.exe <—Scansoft Updater, can be done manually
pptd40nt.exe <——-Scanner software, unnecessary
IndexSearch.exe <—As above
BrStDvPt.exe <——- Used to set a Brother MFC printer/copier/scanner as the default printer after installation
brctrcen.exe <——– Brother scanner 'Control Center' application - can be started manually
AOLSoftware.exe <—AOl software. Gives internet connection status
MsnMsgr.Exe <—MSN Can be started manually
BackWeb-8876480.exe <—-Logitech, checks for updates, which can be done manually
YAHOOM~1.EXE <—-yahoo Messenger
GoogleToolbarNotifier.exe <—This program will notify you when you attempt to change the Internet Explorer search engine to something else
reader_sl.exe <—-Adobe Reader
OSA.EXE <—MS Office

These are necessary
avgcc.exe <—Anti-virus
IPHSend.exe <—AOL, but not sure what it does.
ctfmon.exe <—Windows
SUPERAntiSpyware.exe <—anti-spyware

If you open Winpatrol, there is a tab at the top called Startup Programs You can disable what you dont need, then notice how much quicker Windows starts up.
