Hi

Men!

Lets try the CFScript again.

Open Notepad and Copy/Paste the text in the codebox below into it:

File::
C:\DOCUME~1\PCWorld\LOCALS~1\Temp\naecd.sys
C:\ecommerce\dialer.exe

Folder::
C:\Program Files\WinUpdater

Registry::
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"WinUpdater"=-

Driver::
naecd

Save this as CFScript on your Desktop, Save As wil be auto selected as a text file.

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe
Then post the resultant log.

Open Outlook, and remove all deleted items.

I see you are using Wild Tangent. It is not malware, but is sometimes thought to bring malware along. Wild Tangent is a video game software company specializing in online games. It has even made a partnership with AOL to include itself as part of the AOL Instant Messenger for their AIM games section. The WildTangent Web Driver is their technology that allows you to play 3D games over the Internet. Although it’s not technically considered spyware, it does have built in components to update itself and gather information about the computer system including
  • Operating System Version
  • CPU Type and Speed
  • Memory Amount
Video Card type and Driver Version
  • Sound Card type and Driver Version
  • DirectX Version
Location that the Web Driver was installed from
  • It is also a MAJOR resource hog.
For more information, see WildTangent Removal Instructions and Help and Inside Wild Tangent-Delivering High-End 3-D Content To A Web Site Near You.
Unless you are an extremely avid games player, I recommend you uninstall Wild Tangent: To uninstall Wild Tangent:
  • Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  • In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  • In Add or Remove Programs, highlight Wild Tangent, click Remove.
  • Close the Add or Remove Programs and the Control Panel windows.

I see that Viewpoint Media Player is installed. Viewpoint, Viewpoint Manager, Viewpoint Media Player are Viewpoint components which are installed as a side effect of installing other software, most notably AOL and AOL Instant Messenger (AIM). Viewpoint Manager is responsible for managing and updating Viewpoint Media Player’s components. You can disable this using the Viewpoint Manager Control Panel found in the Windows Control Panel menu. By selecting Disable auto‑updating for the Viewpoint Manager ‑‑ the player will no longer attempt to check for updates. Anything that is installed without your consent is suspect. Read what Viewpoint says and make your own decision.

To provide a satisfying consumer experience and to operate effectively, the Viewpoint Media Player periodically sends information to servers at Viewpoint. Each installation of the Viewpoint Media Player is identifiable to Viewpoint via a Customer Unique Identifier (CUID), an alphanumeric identifier embedded in the Viewpoint Media Player. The Viewpoint Media Player randomly generates the CUID during installation and uses it to indicate a unique installation of the product. A CUID is never connected to a user's name, email address, or other personal contact information. CUIDs are used for the sole purpose of filtering redundant information. Each of these information exchanges occurs anonymously.

Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without user's approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This may change, read Viewpoint to Plunge Into Adware.
I recommend that you remove the Viewpoint products; however, decide for yourself. To uninstall the the Viewpoint components (Viewpoint, Viewpoint Manager, Viewpoint Media Player):
  • Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  • In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  • In Add or Remove Programs, highlight Viewpoint Media Player, click Remove.
Also, post a new HijackThis log.
LOL. I have removed the items you mentioned and i also deleted two other things that had the same logo as wild tangent. CM4 which is championship manager 4 wont delete for some reason. It was my ex that played the games, i only use solitaire - how sad lol, so none are needed, is there anything else that i should delete, there does seem to be a lot of rubbish on here. i noticed that there were 2 viruses and some suspect files after the last test we did, i was surprised as i do have avg and adaware running all the time, and also that deleted emails were still in the system, arfe we now working towards removing all the problems? The new logs:

Forgot to ask previously, since the tests we've been doing on my pc, i keep getting the info box up asking me to switch on my firewall, some of the sites i use regularly have asked me to switch it off, should it be on or off or does my avg cover it and if it needs to stay off, how do i stop the info box coming up all the time cos it never used to? many thanks
Hi

Im surprised at any website telling you to turn off your firewall. Without one you are wide open to being hacked,or your pc being used as a bot to send out spam, which might not seem like a problem, but your ISP will cut you off.
Most firewalls go through a learning process. They will ask you, when a program tries to call out or in, whether you wish to allow it or block it. It wont ask again after that.
If a site is telling you turn it off, I would be very suspicious.

We are almost done.

Delete the Combofix icon from your Desktop.

Navigate to and delete the following folders, if they are present.

C:\Combofix
C:\Qoobox

and the Combofix text files you find beside them.

Run HijackThis, select Do a system scan only and place checks against the following entries (if they are still present):
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {0BF43445-2F28-4351-9252-17FE6E806AA0} - (no file)

WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED Click on Fix Checked and exit HijackThis.

I would advise updating Adobe Reader, as the latest version clears up any vulnerabilities of previous versions.
First uninstall the version you have on your computer then download and install Adobe Reader 8.1.

This is my usual speech for when you are clean, which you appear to be.

Please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
Disable and Enable System Restore.

It's also a good idea to Flush your System Restore points after ridding yourself of malware:
  • Click Start | Help and Support | Undo changes to your computer with System Restore.
  • Click Create A Restore Point then click Next. Give it a name it and then click Create, then Close.
  • Close the Help and Support Center box.
  • Click Start | Run and type Cleanmgr
  • Select (C: ) then click OK.
  • Click the More Options tab.
  • Click Clean Up in the System Restore Section.
This will remove all previous restore points except the newly created one.

Here are some free programs I recommend, although you will not need them all. .

Spybot Search and Destroy
Download it from here . Just choose a mirror and off you go.
Find here the tutorial on how to use Spybot properly here

Install Spyware Guard
Download it from here
Find here the tutorial on how to use Spyware Guard here

Install SpyWare Blaster
Download it from here
Find here the tutorial on how to use Spyware Blaster here

Install WinPatrol
Download it from here
Here you can find information about how WinPatrol works here

Make sure your Windows is ALWAYS up to date!

An unpatched Windows is vulnerable and even with the "best" Antivirus and Firewall installed, malware will find its way through.
So visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ to download and install the latest updates.

Update your Antivirus programs and other security products regularly to avoid new threats that could infect your system.

Please check out Tony Klein's article "How did I get infected in the first place?"

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Glad I was able to help.
Hi, Ive switched the microsoft firewall back on but im sure there is another firewall on this system which is why i was told that the microsoft one wasnt needed, maybe it was when symantec was on the system, cos it doesnt look like avg has one?? Anyway I cannot find a combofix folder, only notepads with the combofix name, i have deleted the qoobox folder and the combofix shortcut on the desktop, should i delete everything i can find on the system with combofix in the name?
following on from my last message, there is a combofix.exe coming up on find file/folder but it is locked and i cannot remove it - what should i do. Also do i delete the kaspersky log, atf cleaner and the hijack this downloads. This adobe youve suggested i upload, it has a photoshop, do i need this and do i keep the adobe acrobat that was originally on my system? also since switching on the microsoft firewall i keep getting asked if certain things are ok or should be blocked, some like msn or yahoo are obvious but some i have no idea if they should be blocked or not, how do i find this out? the current query that firewall is asking is about back-web 8876480 do i block this or not? I am concerned that avg allowed these recent viruses onto my system - any suggestions? and also it seems that the ad-aware and super antispyware are finding different things so should i keep them both on or is there something more efficient? many thanks for all your help and sorry for being such a nuisance with not knowing where anything is lol! lisa
i think this should be the last query. ive looked at all the websites you suggest for spyware, i am assuming that they all do the same thing, so which one should i download and also within each site there are different programs to choose from also so again which one/s do i download - its all very confusing  i look forward to receiving all your answers. thank you for all your help its been invaluable and i will recomment this site.
Hi

When we clean the restore Points, it leaves the newest, the clean one, and then Windows will continue to automatically create them, so you will never be without.

No anti-virus is 100% perfect, Im afraid. Avg is good enough and light on system resources, I use it on one of my computers.

That backweb is Logitech's updater. If you are in doubt, like the firewall window popping up for no reason, (it usually does it when you open a new program that needs to connect to the Internet) then be suspicious. Google the application name thats trying to connect.

I get a little confused with Adobe. If you just have the pdf Reader program, follow my instructions without photoshop, and whatever else they offer.

If you have a full Adobe Suite, I believe you can update Reader from within it.

If you rarely have need for a pdf reader, I would remove Adobe completely and use this.

Foxit

I do. :D

Reboot your computer, then go to Start>Run and type this in the box
ComboFix /u

Remember the space between x and /.

Let me know how that goes.
hi, i tried to run combofix but it said not found. microsoft updates are automatically updated, but i have manually updated them now. is that porn site now deleted also? Do i need to use the restore points in the future? Should i remove TF,HijackThis and Kaspersky log? Is logitech ok to allow to update? microsoft firewall has asked me a few times about allowing messenger, thought this shouldnt happen? ive looked at all the websites you suggest for spyware, i am assuming that they all do the same thing, so which one should i download and also within each site there are different programs to choose from also so again which one/s do i download - its all very confusing or do i not need any with having ad-aware and superantispyware?
Hi

is that porn site now deleted also?

It wasnt actually a porn site. It was an old school dialler which would have called to the site at premium rate. If you are on Broaadband and have "Never dial a connection" selected in network Connections it would have been impotent. Pardon the pun. :P

Do i need to use the restore points in the future?

Rarely. Restore is for when something goes wrong like a bad program installation or a new corrupt driver, and you need to restore to an earlier time, when everything worked. Restore is no use when youare infected as malware infects the restore points, to counter it.

Should i remove TF,HijackThis and Kaspersky log?

If you have no need for them, remove.

Is logitech ok to allow to update?

Yes. Is it necessary, maybe, maybe not. Depends on what Logitech products you use.

microsoft firewall has asked me a few times about allowing messenger, thought this shouldnt happen?

Im a bit surprised it is, but Ive never used the Windows firewall. It doesnt really stop the outgoing stuff, like malware calling home.
I use this firewall.
Comodo

When you first install that, you will be asked about allowing a lot at first, especially lots of iexplore and svchost, but then it will settle down.
I can understand the messages can be annoying, but at least you know you are protected.

For the programs I recommended, WinPatrol is a good choice, it has numerous functions, including a Startup Manager to disable unnecessary programs from starting with Windows. Adaware and Sas will give you good cover on the Spyware front too.

I missed this out.

Delete the older versions of Java and download the newest.
Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components.
  • Close any programmes you may have running, ESPECIALLY your web browser
  • Click Start > Control Panel.
  • Click Add/Remove Programs.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove all versions of Java.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) (4th one down the list), which is JRE6u3, and click Yes at the page warning, then accept the Licence Agreement before downloading the Offline file.
hi I have two java programs - java 2 runtime env SEv1.4.0 and java web start - which one do i remove? its late so im off to bed, thanks for all your help today, hopefully my pc will start to run quicker now. nite :wavey:
just when we thought it was time to end this beautiful relationship….lol… before i removed kaspersky from my system out of curiosity i ran another scan and the viruses and other suspects are still there, looks like we have to start all over again….HELP! :wall:
Hi Did you get a new report, if so let me see it. Ive a feeling it's the old emails, and they are a pain. We might be able to use Combo to kill them, if you havent removed that yet.
