[Resolved] Spybot Keeps Showing Spyware

I keep running spybot and it gives me the same spyware results every time. I have Norton anitvirus but it doesn't seem to catch anything.

I go by FencerGirl. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research.

Please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:

I will working be on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.

Hi empemitheos,
There are a couple of preparatory steps we need to take before we can clean anything.

First, it appears to have both CA eTrust and Norton running. Anti-virus programs take up an enormous amount of your computer's resources when they are actively scanning your computer. Having two anti-virus programs running at the same time can cause your computer to run very slow, become unstable and even crash.

Is your CA eTrust expired or about to expire? If so, then uninstall it and stick with Norton. If your CA eTrust is up-to-date and you plan to keep it so, then uninstall Norton.
Either way, one of the anti-virus programs has to go.

Second, we need to disable Spybot's TeaTimer.
Some anti-malware programs can interfere with the removal of malware.
For now, please disable Spy-Bot's TeaTimer.
1. Run Spybot-S&D
2. Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
3. On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
4. Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts
5. Restart your computer.

Third, make sure everything's starting as it should be.
Your log shows that MSConfig is running at startup. This indicates that you may be using "diagnostic startup" rather than "normal startup" to stop something from running. While this is normally OK, it is possible that you have disabled something that will affect how we clean your machine. Please don't change anything in MSConfig yet, these instructions will produce a report of what programs are currently disabled so I can see the entries without requiring any changes:

Go to Start > Run and type Notepad
Copy/paste the following quote box into a new notepad (not wordpad) document. Make sure that wordwrap is unchecked.

regedit /a /e %systemdrive%\regkey.txt "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig"
notepad %systemdrive%\regkey.txt
del /q %systemdrive%\regkey.txt

Go to the menu at the top of the Notepad File and Save as
Save it to your Desktop as "mslook.bat" (you MUST include the quotes)
Locate mslook.bat on your Desktop and double-click it. When notepad opens, copy/paste the content in your reply. When you close Notepad the CMD window will close automatically and the text file will be deleted.

Fourth, we need to upload some files for analysis.
Please visit Virustotal

Click the Browse… button
Navigate to the file C:\WINDOWS\ZSSnp211.exe
Click the Open button
Click the Send button
Repeat the above steps for C:\WINDOWS\system32\mp3utin.dll
Copy and paste the results back here please.

After you've completed the above steps, please post back with a new HijackThis log and the results from VirusTotal and mslook.bat.

The website that you gave me to scan those files keeps having an error when I upload them:

"0 bytes size received / Se ha recibido un archivo vacio"

Also, I believe I am missing ZSSnp211.exe, because I cannot find it by browsing and I also did a file search for it which returned nothing.

Hi empemitheos, As I was researching this morning, I noticed that you have posted this same log to multiple forums. While we appreciate that you very likely posted at multiple forums in order to ensure a response, that only serves to tie up the time of multiple helpers who could be using that time to help someone else who also has problems. Although there are many forums that handle HijackThis logs, there are not so many helpers; most of us help out at several forums. In addition, the results may not work out so well when you're following different instructions from different helpers. They may suggest different approaches for the same problem, all of which may be good; however, system conflicts may arise if different fixes for the same problem are applied simultaneously. In the future, for your sake as well as ours, please refrain from requesting help from multiple forums. Choose one, and stick with that one until they've resolved your problem. If you'd like for me to continue cleaning your computer, please post back at Spyware Info so your log there can be closed. I'll continue your fix when I know which forum you'd like to use. Thanks for the reply.

Your previous logs don't look too bad. Looking at Spybot, you have a lot of cookies and an open port. Did you open Port 443 for some reason? Do you use a program that requires that port to be open. It is possible that port 443 is open for a legitimate reason, but it could be malware related.

You should know that cookies are not malware and what you have found does not indicate an infection. Cookies will usually be created on your machine whenever you browse the web and can be very useful, however advertising cookies such as you listed in your post do not help you and can be a privacy risk - this is why your protection software removes them.

There is some straightforward information on cookies from Microsoft here:

Generally speaking they aren't anything to be overly concerned about, especially if you are regularly scanning with your anti-malware products. However if you are concerned about cookies and wish to have more control over the cookies placed on your machine, let me know in your next response and I'll give you some further suggestions.

Scan with HijackThis and check the following if present.

O21 - SSODL: Pnpelcpy - {C9D717C7-BF02-45D2-A797-C929DDFC30F8} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\mp3utin.dll

CLOSE ALL OTHER WINDOWS and select "Fixed Checked".

Then, browse to C:\WINDOWS\system32\mp3utin.dll and delete it.

Also, let's do an online scan to see what we can see.

Please do an online scan with KasperskyWebScanner

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky,
Click Yes.

The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
Now click on Scan Settings
In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
- Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
Extended (if available otherwise
Standard)
- Scan Options:
Scan Archives
Scan Mail Bases
Click OK
Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
This will program will start and scan your system.
The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been
infected.
- Now click on the Save as Text button:
Save the file to your desktop.
Copy and paste that information in your next post.

After you've done the above, please post back with the results from Kaspersky and a new HijackThis log.

I have a question for you. Did you intentionally download TightVNC? It allows you to remotely access your computer.

Other than that, you are looking pretty good.
Scan with HijackThis and check the following if present.

Yes I did install TightVNC but I never recall opening any ports on my firewall.
I also get a strange shutdown error ever since I deleted those DLLs your asked me to. I'll make a detailed note of it next time I shutdown.

The error message that keeps coming up is as follows: (Messagebox Heading) Regsvr32.exe Regsvr32.exe failed to initialize because Windows is shutting down. then my computer shuts down normally when I press ok.

Thanks for being so patient. I see that you're now using Net Zero and you've installed Slawdog Smart Shutdown. If at all possible, do not install any more programs until we're sure your computer is completely clean. It makes it harder to keep track of what's going on when programs are being added.
Did you install Slawdog Smart Shutdown before the shut down error started or in response to it?

Alright, let's get to work.

I never recall opening any ports on my firewall.

In that case, I suggest you close the port 443. You can always re-open it if they prove necessary.
Backup Your Registry with ERUNT

Please use the following link and scroll down to ERUNT and download it.

For version with the Installer:
Use the setup program to install ERUNT on your computer
For the zipped version:
Unzip all the files into a folder of your choice.

Click Erunt.exe to backup your registry to the folder of your choice.

Note: to restore your registry, go to the folder and start ERDNT.exe

Copy/paste the following text into a new Notepad document. (You must use Notepad, NOT Wordpad). Make sure that you have NO blank lines at the beginning of the document before REGEDIT4, and ONE blank line at the end of the document as shown in the quoted text:

As to your shut down error, I'm still doing some research.
Did your error start immediately after we deleted the mp3utin.dll? Had you installed anything before you noticed the problem?\
Let's see if we can see anything weird going on.

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.

Close all applications and windows.
Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt<-this one will be minimized
Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt and the extra.txt in your reply.

Post back with the results from Deckard's System Scan. Also, let me know if closing Port 443 has caused any problems.

Hi,

I installed Smart Shutdown to give me simple reminders about various things. I have done this in the past and have had no problems with it. The shutdown error occurred before I installed smart shutdown anyway.

Closing the port has not caused any problems so far, I am still able to use my internet, I'll have to test some more programs before I can be sure though.
