Please can you also advise some good safe anti-spy products other than the two I have thanks
Good afternoon.

I can't see any evidence of Vundo in your log, but there is another backdoor trojan. Did Ad-Aware and/or Spybot tell you that you had Vundo? Vundo can hide things from us. To fool the 'nasty' into letting us see the complete picture, we need to rename HijackThis.exe.

Open the Security folder on your desktop and rename HijackThis.exe as NoHiding.exe.

————————————————–

Please run another HijackThis scan (as NoHiding) and post the log as a reply to this thread.

Hi Ally. :)

I still can't see any sign of Vundo. You didn't answer my question about AdAware/Spybot. Can you please let me know what made you think that Vundo was on the computer.

I'm afraid I can't find the otmoveitlog,Just found it,here it is>>C:\WINDOWS\system32\ali.exe moved successfully.

Created on 09/29/2007 18:54:11
Good evening.

Thanks for the background information. I still can't see Vundo. Let's get rid of the last of the visible malware and then run a scan to see what else may be there.

—————————————————-

We fixed these lines before, but they have returned. We deleted the main file and AVG Anti-Spyware picked up some other items so, hopefully, they should go this time.

Run HijackThis and click Scan and then check (tick) the following, if present (don't worry if any are missing):

O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [*Bandook] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ali.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Bandook] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ali.exe

Close down all programs, browsers and other open windows. Make sure that only the above items are checked and then click on Fix checked.

————————————————–

I want to make sure that file hasn't returned.
  • Double-click OTMoveIt.exe to launch it.
  • Copy/Paste the contents of the box below into the left hand pane of OTMoveIt.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ali.exe

  • Click the Move It button.
  • The list will be processed and the results will appear in the right hand pane.
  • If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.
  • When finished click Exit to exit the programme.
  • A log - C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles\mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log will be created (where mmddyyyy_hhmmss are numbers giving date and time the log was created).
————————————————

Deckard's System Scanner (DSS)

Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop.

Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.
  • Close all applications and windows.
  • Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
  • When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt<-this one will be minimized
  • Please post the contents of main.txt and the extra.txt in your next reply.
Note: Apart from producing the reports, the scanner will also:
  • create a new System Restore point in Windows XP
  • clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
  • run HijackThis for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have HijackThis installed.
———————————————

Please post the following, as a reply to this thread:
  • The Deckard's reports (main.txt and extra.txt)
  • The OTMoveIt log (please make sure that you get the latest one)

R3 Pcatip - c:\windows\system32\drivers\pcatip.sys
Good morning.

This one is being a bit stubborn. :( However, the Deckard's scan has given us some useful information which will, hopefully, enable us to kill this thing.

————————————————-

First we need to back up your registry.

Backup the Windows Registry
  • Download Erunt to your desktop from here
  • Double-click on the file to install the program
  • Untick the NTREGOPT desktop shortcut option
  • Click No when you get the option to run Erunt at Windows startup.
  • During the installation, tick Launch Erunt
  • Accept the defaults for running a backup
  • Erunt will then backup your registry
———————————————-

OTMoveIt
  • Double-click OTMoveIt.exe to launch it.
  • Copy/Paste the contents of the box below into the left hand pane of OTMoveIt.

C:\WINDOWS\bhookpl.dll

Edit the Windows Registry

Select the contents of the Code Box below and copy/paste into Notepad

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"Bandook"=-

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\runonce]
"*Bandook"=-

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\active setup\installed components\{B6A807N6-42DF-4W02-93E5-B156B3FA8AL1}]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{B6A807N6-42DF-4W02-93E5-B156B3FA8AL1}]
  • Make sure that Word Wrap is turned off in Notepad - (click the Format menu and uncheck Word Wrap)
  • Click Save As on the File menu and name the file fix.reg
  • Change the Save as Type to All Files
  • Save the file on your desktop
  • Close Notepad and make sure that all other windows are closed
  • Important:
    • Make sure there are NO blank lines before REGEDIT4
    • Make sure there is one blank line at the end of the file
    • Make sure that you have copied all of the text (e.g. don't miss the first 'R')
  • Double-click on the fix.reg file
  • When it prompts to merge, click Yes
——————————————-

Reboot the computer

I appreciate that you want to get this sorted out but it is annoying that you felt unable to wait for my next set of instructions. I don't think that you have "messed up" but I wish you could have waited. The main thing is that it appears to have done the job. I note that you have also installed SpywareGuard.

Anyway, let's see what the current situation is. The HijackThis log now appears to be clean. I need you to run another Deckard's scan to make sure that Trojan Hunter got everything.

Please double-click on dss.exe and post the main.txt report together with another HijackThis log.
Hi baynac,I haven't done the deckards scan yet, when i try my zonealarm pops up asking if i want to allow this program to run is this okay or could i have removed the trojan incorrectly :(
Hi Baynac,Again sorry for being impatient,i think i overworried myself last night about this trojan thingy as 3 weeks ago i was a victim of bank account fraud and i was just worried it could be due to this trojan.anyhow this is the dss scan>>>>>Deckard's System Scanner v20070905.67

Good evening.

3 weeks ago i was a victim of bank account fraud and i was just worried it could be due to this trojan

It's possible. It's understandable that you were worried. This trojan does allow remote access to your computer but there didn't appear to be anything there that would have exploited this. If you haven't already done so, I suggest that you call all of your banks, credit card companies, financial institutions and inform them that you may be a victim of identity theft and to put a watch on your accounts or change all your account numbers. Once we are sure that the computer is clean, change all your online passwords (for ISP login, email, for banks, financial accounts, PayPal, eBay, online companies, any online forums or groups you belong to).

PS.I hope you continue to help, and I promise i will not to try and fix it myself again and wait for your posts in future

Of course I will continue to help. I understand how you feel. It's very upsetting when your computer is infected, especially when you have been the victim of a fraud.

Trojan Hunter has not got rid of all of the infection.
