Howdy sever2580,

Welcome to What The Tech. Only malware showing so far is what appears to be an orphaned registry entry for a MyWebSearch infection (IAC Search and Media, Ask.com people), and often this is one targeted by SpyBot and Ad-Aware for removal. Keylogger software that actually monitors the user's keystrokes, although something folks are very concerned about, it actually not a very common use malware technique. But let's follow up with additional checks to be sure here.

Go Here and download ATF cleaner. Click on the downloaded file to run it, and select "Select All", then click Empty Selected (and close ATF).

If you have them, also click on Firefox/Opera at the top and repeat the steps (and close ATF). Firefox/Opera will need to be closed first for the cleaning to be effective.

Then go here for an online AV scan (requires IE to run).

Scan "Local Disks" and when finished save the scan log and then post the log here.

Also Go Here and download Silent Runners to your desktop. Run it, and post back here the log it creates. If your AV queries the script, allow it to run. It's not malicious. It will create a file named Startup Programs, and will notify when the scan is complete. Copy the log from the Startup Programs file back here. You can use separate posts if needed.
Here is my AV scan: Incident Status Location Adware:Adware/Spylocked Not disinfected C:\Documents and Settings\Luke P….\Local Settings\Temp\~nsu.tmp\Au_.exe Virus:Generic Malware Disinfected C:\Program Files\AWS\WeatherBug\MiniBugTransporter.dll Hacktool:HackTool/Pomit.A Not disinfected C:\Program Files\GameSpy Arcade\Services\gspoker\oledlg.dll Virus:Generic Malware Disinfected C:\Program Files\GameSpy Arcade\Services\_common\PortraitLoader.dll Potentially unwanted tool:Application/ViewPoint Not disinfected C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Toolbar\3.8.0\ViewBarBHO.dll
And here is my silent runners log:

"Silent Runners.vbs", revision 52, http://www.silentrunners.org/
Operating System: Windows XP SP2
Output limited to non-default values, except where indicated by "{++}"

Panda shows Viewpoint, WeatherBug and GameSpyArcade, all of which are either somewhat questionable or most often unnecessary, so you can uninstall all of these without issue through Add/Remove programs there. But the Spylocked indication suggests we include a more through scan here.

Go here and download the free version of SUPERAntiSpyware and install it.

After installation accept any prompts to allow SUPERAntiSpyware to install the latest infection definition files. Next follow the prompts to complete the installation. For now, uncheck the option to have SUPERAntiSpyware "Automatically check for program and definition updates". Providing an email address and allowing the software to send diagnostic reports to it's research center are up to you. Do NOT allow SUPERAntiSpyware to Protect your Home Page settings.

Once the installation is complete open SUPERAntiSpyware and press the Preferences button. Under the General and Startup tab, uncheck the following (leaving all other settings as is).

Start-up Options:
*Start SUPERAntiSpyware when Windows starts

Automatic Updates:
*Check for program updates when the application starts.
Start-up Scanning:
*Check for updates before scanning on startup.

Then select Close. Don't scan just yet though.

===============================================

Reboot into Safe Mode (at startup tap the F8 key and select Safe Mode).

Open SUPERAntiSpyware and click the Scan your Computer button. Making sure that Fixed Drive (NTFS) is checked (typically the C Drive), check "Perform Complete Scan", then click Next. SUPERAntiSpyware will now complete a system scan.

SUPERAntiSpyware will now scan your computer and when its finished it will list all the infections it has found. Make sure that they all have a check next to them and click next. If prompted allow the reboot (or manually reboot at this time), and after the reboot open SUPERAntiSpyware again (double click the bug-shaped Taskbar icon).

Click Preferences, then under the Statistics/Logs tab, click to select the most recent Scan Log, then click View Log. Save the log to your desktop, and copy/paste the text from the log back here.

That removed some harmless cookies but also more of the leftover infection. I am almost going at this backwards scanwise - let's correct that with a specific infection look at things to be very sure here.

Download ComboFix.exe from here to your desktop, and click the downloaded file to run the repair.

When the command window opens, select 1 (and Enter). Allow the scan to run. When completed a text window will appear - please copy/paste the contents back here. This log can also be found at C:\ComboFix.txt.

A caution - do not touch your mouse/keyboard until the scan has completed. The scan will temporarily disable your desktop, and if interrupted may leave your desktop disabled. If this occurs, please reboot to restore the desktop.

And Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe

Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

**If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually the C drive), and launch from there.

NOTE: Please do not run any other options from SmitfraudFix until we discuss the results.
I don't seem to be able to get ComboFix to work. When I open the program a blue command window pops up but just sits there with no text. Am I doing something wrong? Disable McAfee and any other running protective software like AVG and try again - most often these are blocking ComboFix from doing some needed steps.
Disable SpyBot's TeaTimer.

1) Run Spybot-S&D
2) Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
3) On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
4) Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts
5) Restart your computer.

A very likely culprit other than that is McAfee's firewall, so be sure it is disabled. I can see from the last log nircmd.exe retrying to run, which still suggests your protective software interfering. Then although the level of infection hasn't indicated any infection tricks let's be sure about some dummy file uses here.

Also Open Notepad (Start - Run, type notepad then press Enter) and copy the following text into a new file:

cd %windir%
attrib -s -h -r system32\cmd.com
attrib -s -h -r system32\netstat.com
attrib -s -h -r system32\ping.com
attrib -s -h -r system32\regedit.com
attrib -s -h -r system32\taskkill.com
attrib -s -h -r system32\tasklist.com
attrib -s -h -r system32\tracert.com
del system32\cmd.com
del system32\netstat.com
del system32\ping.com
del system32\regedit.com
del system32\taskkill.com
del system32\tasklist.com
del system32\tracert.com
Save the file to the desktop as remove.bat and make sure the "Save as type" field says "All files".

Then double-click on remove.bat. A window should open and close fairly quickly — this is normal.

If still no success, although not preferred go ahead and reboot into Safe Mode (at startup tap the F8 key and select Safe Mode) and run it then. But only if other measures do not work. Reboot after and post back the log.
I tried all the things you said but still no luck. I must have something running in the background that I don't know how to turn off.

I rebooted into safe mode and ran it that way.

ComboFix looks to have removed that StarForce service and it's rootkit-like driver, though these may be returned the next time the software that uses them (usually a CD game) is installed. Still no indication that anything other than McAfee was blocking ComboFix though, but no active infection is showing at this time other than a bookmark that needs deleting. Are there any issues we haven't talked about yet here?

Make sure you can View Hidden Files. Also uncheck "Hide Extensions for Known File Types"

Do a search ( Start - Search/Find - Files or Folders) for the following hilighted files/folders (shown in Bold), and if found, delete them.

C:\Documents and Settings\Luke P\FAVORITES\Online Security Test.url
I did what you asked in your last post and deleted C:\Documents and Settings\Luke P\FAVORITES\Online Security Test.url As I said in my first post, I visited a malicious website which others reported to have a keylogger/harmful scripts. If you say everything in my logs looks clean, can I go about my business as normal without worrying something is recording my key strokes? If so, thank you so much for all the help you have given me. Also, is there any sort of list of anti spyware type software that I should have installed and constantly updated on my computer? THANKS!
