Hi, I posted this problem in hardware too.. but it is a notebook so I'll post here too. I have speedfan 4.32 and usually when my computer shuts off is when it gets to about 43-44 degrees. I know that isnt that high but it does shut off around there. Here is what speedfan posted when i started up my computer this is what speedfan posted after startup Win9x:NO 64Bit:NO GiveIO:YES SpeedFan:YES I/O properly initialized Linked ISA BUS at $0290 Linked Intel 82801CAM ICH3 SMBUS at $1840 Scanning ISA BUS at $0290... That information is collected by the drive itself and contains data that the manufacturer considered relevant to check reliability. The data is made up of several attributes that have a current value, a worst one, a threshold, some raw data, and some flags. Basically, when any attribute's current value is below its threshold, the hard disk is considered unreliable and likely to fail. By using several techniques, this report tries to give a wider range of info, basing its analysis on advanced comparisons with normal values based on real hard disks and on expert-like checks. The final results are not to be taken as an absolute truth, but they are a very good approach to what a professional would say about your hard disk status. Your hard disk is a IC25N030ATCS04-0 with firmware CA3OA71A. The average temperature for this hard disk is 42C (MIN=29C MAX=54C) and yours is 41C. Your hard disk's S.M.A.R.T. attributes are now being analyzed and a full report about the reliability, health and status of your hard disk is generated: Your hard disk is not below any attribute threshold. This is good. Your hard disk was never below any attribute threshold. This is good. Your hard disk is now being compared to real data used to define normal values for your specific hard disk model. This way, the analysis can automatically use proper operating ranges. The images give you an idea of how each attribute is within such range. Current and raw values are shown for easier reference for experienced users. There are 1742 hard disk models in the current archive. The overall fitness for this drive is 90%. The overall performance for this drive is 90%. The link to get back and see a new report about this hard disk in the future is this. Consider that new hard disks and new checks are added over time. DISCLAIMER: this report does its best to highlight issues and warnings related to your hard disk. It cannot be held responsible for any mistake. This page and its results cannot be used in any other way but the one defined by its author. Im not sure what the problem is but it is very inconvenient because I cant even run my antivirus searching for viruses for a long period of time without the computer shutting off. Do you think too many processors running that is why it is shutting me off? I have 512 Ram. About a year ago I had installed a wireless ethernet card into my computer. Do you think that has something to do with it? Please help, it's so irritating having my comp shut off all the time. Thanks, Paul

ok.. i tried the first method and my computer shut off... it didnt restart. So, I went to the second method which I typed eventvwr.msc. I had a bunch of warnings all with the same problem... Its the plugplaymanager. It said the activesmart service vetoed a power event request. Here is the warning. Details Product: Windows Operating System ID: 262 Source: PlugPlayManager Version: 5.2 Symbolic Name: WRN_POWER_EVENT_SERVICE_VETO Message: The service "%1" vetoed a power event request. Explanation The system's attempt to put the computer into a power-saving mode was blocked by the specified service. Stopping the service may allow the system to go into a power-saving mode, but it may also cause other problems. What do you recommend me do next? I thank you so much for your time and effort.. Paul

So you didn't get a BSOD when the computer crashed? It seems that this is an issue that your SMART data reading program (possibly SpeedFan) is causing. Try uninstalling the software and this error should go away. Are there any other system or application errors that you can see?

i uninstalled speedfan just before this had happened. Then, I installed active smart, and this still happened. I guess i will try and uninstall activesmart too. What do you suggest?

ActiveSmart is what is causing that error to appear in the event viewer. I would suggest uninstalling it before continuing.

Thanks Paul,

The latter messages you posted all deal with the same issue, it looks like you may have some network connectivity issues. This may or may not be part of what's causing the restarts. Please post the information from the following event:
Type: Information
Date: 9/21/2007
Time: 20:01
Source: Save Dump
Event ID: 1001

We might be looking at an issue revealed in MS KB925922, as it appears IPSec is one of the errors listed.

Regards,

Ax

If the entry is no longer in the Event Viewer, wait until the computer restarts again, then find the newly created entry. Regards, Ax
