Hi. I am going crazy here. Caught an infection and did a clean install of Windows on my system. But after about 30 mins, I started getting pop-ups. I ran trend micro online scanner and got the result-CRCK_JBEAN.A. I did a search on this infection but found nothing. I need help seriously. thank you tarchea

welcome to What the Tech forum.

Please download and install HijackThis, if you didn't already.

Click here to download HijackThis.
Save HJTInstall.exe to your Desktop.
Double click on the HJTInstall.exe icon to start the program.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis
After the final dialogue box it will launch HijackThis.

Click on the scan button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
Save the log, and post me it in your next reply.

Hi,
any reason why you don't have a Antivirus and a firewall?


Please install an antivirus and firewall first, because it doesn't make any sense to remove malware from your system if no scanner is preventing them from reinfecting your computer.

AVG Anti-Virus, Avira OR Avast Home Edition are good FREE antivirus scanners.
After installing ONE antivirus program, download the latest signatures, and do a full system scan.

Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over:
Kerio Personal Firewall OR ZoneAlarm are good FREE firewalls.

Read Understanding and using firewalls to learn more about using firewalls

VERY IMPORTANT: Never install more than ONE antivirus scanner and firewall on your system! Several together can give problems and decrease their reliability and effectiveness!

Next,
1. Download this file - combofix.exe
2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply togheter with a new HijackThis log.

I ran avast but it couldn't scan 4 files and it said some were password protected but I haven't set any passwords on the system.

Hi, please remove ZoneAlarm and download and install kerio personal firewall instead. I don't see malware present in your log. How are things running? Please let me know.

It seems to be running a lil slow. I didn't see malware in my log either but I noticed alot of new processes running on my system and also I found some Alexa-related adware with my spyware protection. Everytime I try to download, My antivirus pops up and says that the program is a virus. My internet explorer is running ragged; i have to right click the box and press select all in order to type in it. Where do I get this other firewall from? this came from Avast! * * avast! No i didnt download that. I don't get it. My IE is now crashing hard. I think I have cleaned it but I want to make sure. Once I know I have done everything right, how do I go about helping others? Thanks for replying

I ran another scan with avast today. It included a folder that i did not put on my hard drive and i know it should not be there because this is an external harddrive. Also it is saying that i cannot delete anything in it because it is password protected. Something is going on here. avast!
