Hi, recently i havent been able to open up any of my game files (Rappelz, MapleStory, or BattleField2). The game ends when it just about enters full screen. I also have a problem with new software. I dont recall ever installing anything like it and dont know how to get rid of it now. It pops up every time i log in. Thanks in advance for any help/advice.
Look in your Device Manager.
(right-click - My Computer - Select Properties - Select Hardware(tab) - Click on Device Manager )
Is there an Item named Video Controller?
I'd be highly suspicious of Malware, since you don't remember adding any new hardware that would require a new driver.
I recently wrestled with a machine that was infected with malware after a similar prompt to install appeared.
It was a bundled download "required" by a particular site that the owner/user wanted to visit.
He was more into video editing, but was also a gamer.
I'd highly recommend that you post a HJT Log over into the Malware Removal Forum.
You've get Expert assistance.
Once you are Malware-Clean, please feel free to post back here if you continue to have concerns.
Edit: How full is your Hard Drive. Put another way… How much Free Space do you have on your Hard Drive.
Applications use alot of Hard Drive space when they open, and may start showing difficulty with performance is Free Space drops under 25%.
Best Regards
I received help from the Malware team before coming here, there were other problems so i posted here. As for harddrive space, im sure i have tons. At least 75% free space. In the device manager, under sound, video and game controllers, there is a list. Audo codecs, legacy audo drivers, legacy video capture devices, media control devices, soundmax integrated digital audio, video codecs. I dont think those are it. About the problem opening up programs, do you know where i can get help on that? Again, i already checked in with the Malware team and they say im clean.
Please Run the PCPitstop Full Tests, here:
http://www.pcpitstop.com Register and create a password Accept the ActiveX component to allow your machine to run the Full Tests
Registering and accepting the ActiveX are both SAFE and FREE. Full Tests is the first item in the left hand column of that page.
The Full Tests take about 2-3 minutes for most machines.
Once you have your Results, please post the TechExpress Link back here into this thread for review.
TechExpress is the last item on the list in the yellow box in upper right area of any Results page.
Post the entire URL link information back here into this thread.
The major single bottleneck is probably the present functioning of your Display Adapter Performance 12.38 MP/s (62% of 122 similar)
Best guess would be that your Video Driver has become corrupted or is no longer installed. (no big leap of logic here, since you provided all the necessary information in your original post describing the Video Control, and gave a Screen Shot of Windows - Found New Hardware)
(sorry I didn't simply recognize this for what it probably is, in the first place.)
_________
What to do?
Your Dell probably came with a Driver Re-Installation CD, where you can find the original Video Controller driver.
Or you can browse to Dell.com - Support/Downloads, and find your exact machine and the needed driver by Typing in your SERVICE TAG number.
Use the Driver CD or Download from the Dell site, to install the Video Driver.
______________
Had your games been running well prior to your present problem?
I can't imagine any advanced games loading with only 12.38 MP/s Video Performance.
And actually, the games that you list are relatively demanding.
They would all work better with a minimum of 150 MP/s and better with 250 MP/s or more.
You might consider Adding a Video Card for much better gaming performance. (either AGP or PCI-E according to what your machine accepts)
There are a few other minor maintenance things you can do to improve the overall performance of your machine, by following the Pit Test - TuneUp Tips, and definitely by disabling some of those unnecessary applications and processes in your StartUp list.
Running the game isnt actually a problem, its been working fine for the whole summer. My problem is opening it up, i took another screen shot, didnt turn out well. And i added those other games to show it wasnt in this particular game, so i guessed something was wrong with my computer. Ill try posting another ss. I run the program ok, its just as it goes into full screen, the game doesnt work.
Um… doesnt seem like ss is going to work. Basically it brings the screen partly black, then has a message "RenderDevice Create Error." Along with this problem, the scrolling to internet browsers has been slow, compared to before. I thought maybe these two were linked somehow, although the scrolling did become faster after i received help in the Malware section of this site.
Check the Dell Website for the Video Controller Driver for that particular machine, by creating a user account, then visit Support/Downloads, — Enter your SERVICE TAG # so that Dell website will give you the precise Driver downloads for that machine.
Service Tag # is on a sticky on the outside of your case.
Like i said i cant find those disks… they mustve been cleaned out or something but im asking around. Meanwhile, any thoughts on my other problem? Thats the one im really concerned about, i can just close the video controller pop up. Maybe transfer me to a forum that can identify this problem?
Hi Tuan,
"RenderDevice Create Error" is a call command inside of various games to create an object to be displayed (like a game character, or background scenery) That the word Error is attached to it, indicates that it isn't working.
RenderDevice in a game or other application is "dependent" upon a machine configuration and ultimately upon a hardware device to do the heavy lifting involved in actual display of that rendered object. (for instance, your video adapter and video controller).
If the video adapter memory is damaged (hardware), or if the video adapter does not have the correct codes to activate it step-by-step(from video controller software driver) then "RenderDevice" cannot complete its work.
Most likely bottleneck (source of error) is the failure of the Render Device Create commands ability to "find" a functioning Video Controller code to display the object. (Without a Video Controller installed, the machine uses the most basic resolution, colors, and frame rates, which may not be sufficient to display the rendered object)
Solution:
Install the Video Controller Chipset Driver from Dell, or from the manufacturer of your Video Adapter chip, (nvidia, ati, sis, etc.)
It is "possible" that the coding function of RenderDevice Create has become corrupted.
Best course of action, if that specific code is corrupted, would be to Uninstall and then Reinstall your game application.
However, you've indicated that the problem exists over multiple games and also appears as a slowing of browsing/page creation display on the internet.
This generalized appearance of the problem, points to the failure of your Video Adapter, and is indicated in the MS Alert to Find New Hardware and Install Driver for new hardware.
Your machine is looking for its Video Controller……….. Install it.
Best Regards
Hm… and i thought the problems were independent. Thanks so much for the info, ill get on that right away. And all this time i was thinking it was some virus… =P Ill let you know how its working when i find that dell disk and install the controller.
Ok, i found the cd wrapper for Dell and also an application cd "for reinstalling dell tools system software" (which i didnt find the video controller in). I went to the dell website and figured all you need is the code which is on the back on the comp. So i put that in, go to w/e and found this page. I installed something under video which had controller in its name, nothing changed. Is there something else i should look for?
You may get the name of the specific Video Control and therefore the Driver you need by downloading and running Everest 2.20 (free) from MajorGeeks, here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html
Run Everest and look into the Devices - PCI Devices
(looking for Graphic Adapter or Video Adapter)
and
(looking for AGP Controller)
You will probably be able to identify the precise name of the device, then google for the needed driver.
