Hi Ed,

Well at first glance I'm still not seeing anything malicious in your HJT log, which leads me to believe something may be hiding. Let's try this:

Download and Save blacklight to your desktop.
F-Secure Blacklight: https://europe.f-secure.com/blacklight/try.shtml
Double-click blbeta.exe then accept the agreement.
Click > scan then > next,
You'll see a list of all items found.
Don't choose for rename yet! I want to see the log first, because legit items can also be present there…
There must be also a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers)
Post the contents of the log in your next reply.
Dave with I go to the F-secure website, I see a graphical interface ( fsbl.exe ) and a command line version ( fsblc.exe ). Which one do I use?
Okay…took sometime to scan. Here is the log: 09/17/07 17:12:31 [Info]: BlackLight Engine 1.0.64 initialized 09/17/07 17:12:31 [Info]: OS: 5.1 build 2600 (Service Pack 2) 09/17/07 17:12:31 [Note]: 7019 4 09/17/07 17:12:31 [Note]: 7005 0 09/17/07 17:13:04 [Note]: 7006 0 09/17/07 17:13:04 [Note]: 7011 308 09/17/07 17:13:04 [Note]: 7026 0 09/17/07 17:13:04 [Note]: 7026 0 09/17/07 17:13:08 [Note]: FSRAW library version 1.7.1022 09/17/07 17:23:21 [Info]: Hidden file: c:\WINDOWS\system32\kdcrh.exe 09/17/07 17:23:21 [Note]: 7002 32 09/17/07 17:23:21 [Note]: 7003 1 09/17/07 17:23:21 [Note]: 10002 1 09/17/07 17:26:36 [Note]: 7007 0
Well, there's not much to be found on that file that blacklight found. It makes me think it could be a wareout infection.

Let's run the tool to see what's found.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts. You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads please post the text that will open (report.txt) and a new HijackThis log.

Now lets check some settings on your system.
(2000/XP) Only
In the windows control panel. If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections. Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl, and left click on properties. Click the Networking tab. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
That option might not be avaiable on some systems
Next Go start run type cmd and hit OK
type
ipconfig /flushdns
then hit enter, type exit hit enter
(that space between g and / is needed)
Unfortunately, there is no text that opens. I initially have a black panel that instructs me to hit any key. The panel disappears and a grey box with a radio button that says "start fix…" After that the computer reboots and the desk top reappears….no txt report.
Here is what I found: lUsername "ED DUKE" - 09/17/2007 18:19:21 [Fixwareout edited 9/01/2007] ~~~~~ Prerun check Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache. System was rebooted successfully. ~~~~~ Postrun check also:

Okay so not Wareout.

I'd like you to upload that file for analysis if you can find it.

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:
* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

Please go to http://virusscan.jotti.org, click on Browse, and upload the following file for analysis:

c:\WINDOWS\system32\kdcrh.exe

Then click Submit. Allow the file to be scanned, and then please copy and paste the results here for me to see.

If Jotti is too busy you can try these.

Dave, I sure appreciate you help today…but I have to get off and let my wife have the computer for a bit. She is a teacher and is preparing for tomorrow… I will, hopefully, be back on tomorrow….I'll rerun the fixwareout again and see if I can find the txt file you are looking for. I have not as yet redone the IP connections. Thanks for your time today….have a good evening! Ed Duke MrFtns50
