Hi! Welcome to the WTT forums.
I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research.
Please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
  • I will working be on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

Please make a uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
5. Click on the Save list… button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here in a reply.

Enable disabled items with msconfig
You have a small list of start ups, do you have any disabled items in msconfig? If so you will need to post back a new HijackThislog after you re-enable them.

Go to Start> Run type msconfig and click OK.

Under the Services tab click Enable All

Under the Startup tab click Enable All> Apply> OK> Reboot now.
Hi Scotty
here is the updated hijack file after enabling all in config:-
and below that the uninstall list you required.
ps the reason i disabled certain docs was to speed up start up time and save on memory.

Hi

You can re-disable the unwanted when we are finished.

Download and Run ComboFix
  • Download this file from below:

    Here
  • Disconnect from the Internet, than disable your anti-virus and any real-time anti-spyware monitors that are running.
  • Then double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply with a new HijackThis log.
Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall
Note 2:Remember to re-enable your anti-virus and anti-spyware before reconnecting to the Internet.
Scotty I downloaded the file you suggested. It has caused havoc with my pc. -system doesnt shut down properly….it freezes on saving settings -couldnt open web brousing pages -had to call my internet provider tech team to take me through several issues. -they found that combofix is a dangerous programm that should not be downloaded at all costs -google search confimed this -I had to system restore my pc back to last thursday as combofix was not listed on add/remove programms There could still be hidden damage lurking on my pc that is new since combofix…. Please advise thanks andreas
Im sorry to hear about your problems. Combofix is a powerful tool, but used correctly, it should not cause these problems. Did you say it was a new computer? At what point did these problems occur? When you downloaded it? Or when you ran it?
Scotty
My pc is approx 4 yrs old, so not new….does this make a difference?

Hard to tell when this actually started as I ran combofix straiaght after downloading it.

My main concern now is my firewall status.

I have 2 on my system. AVG and Sygate. I have been firewalled only by Sygate since the AVG firewall stopped, which needs acitivating with my reg no which i have but couldnt turn Sygate off so didnt want two firewalls running simultaneously.

Anyway, I can get online but cannot bring up web pages as my browser is denied with sygate firewall on, so im sending you this via another pc.

It seems there may have been some progs that have been accidently enabled/disabled since the Combofix download.

Perhaps when I system restored, some settings in internet connections may have gone back to their original settings as it aked for this and i clicked yes.

I have included an updated hijack this file below.

i have to go to the library to gain internet access at present, so once i can get my broowser working again I can reply to you quicker.

Regards
Andy.

I dont think the age of your computer was the problem. We will try a different tool this time. You do need to understand that the tools I ask you to use are tried and tested and if used properly, should cause no problems to your system, although, on the odd occasion, it is possible for something to go wrong, where malware is concerned. Hopefully, lightning wont strike twice. Do you have access to a Cd burner or USB drive, to transfer to the good computer?
scotty yes i have a cd burner, the other computer is in my local library, which allows some downloads, but they are pretty strict on this kind of thing i think. Is it safe to turn off my Sygate firewall while I download a new version of my AVG 7.5 as I now have my reg nos to hand. Just to confirm, I can get online, just cant browse with sygate on, so is there a way of downloading without using the browser Im here now for approx an hour, so will keep checking for any prompt replies from you. Andy
As you only have SP1, I would say not really, but firewalls can get in the way of fixes. Why havent you upgraded to SP2?

Do not upgrade to SP2 until you are clean. That will not do any good.

If you can turn off Sygate during fixes that would be the best idea.

If you can get this on your pc that would be good.

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
  • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log
If that's the only way, yes. Remember to switch it back on if you are not doing anything but are connected. Sygate could be blocking something from calling out, so we want to keep it to a minimum.
Ok Scotty i am going home to do this on my PC now…..Ill be back in a couple of hours, so if you able to receive and reply by say 6ish, then that could save another day, as its almost been a week since this problem occurred. thanks a
Scotty went to download .com and it did not recognise SDFix, also did a search …no download options…please advise where i can download this from A
