I seem to have the same problem as cjdragon. There's a yellow icon with an exclamation mark in it in the taskbar and if I place the mouse pointer over it says "Your computer is infected! Windows has detected spyware infection! It is recomended to use special antispyware tools to prevent data loss. Windows will now download and install the most up-to-date antispyware for you. Click here to protect your computer from spyware!"
After a period of time I get a Windows Security Alert popup that says "Warning! Potential Spyware Operation! You computer is making unauthorized copies of your system and Internet files. Run full scan now to prevent any unauthorised access to your files! Click here to download spyware remover…"
I have run Ad Aware and Spybot and through them removed a few things. My Winpatrol alerts me that changes to the HOSTS file have been made. On startup, winpatrol also informs me of a new program AntiVirus 2007 and asks whether it is permitted which I opt not to allow it. Also, I can't seem to get get internet connection through Internet Explorer but can through Mozilla Firefox.
Hope someone can help, thanks.

Hi! Welcome to the WTT forums.
My name is Scotty. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research.
Please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
I will working be on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
Please make a uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:
1. Start HijackThis 2. Click on the Config button 3. Click on the Misc Tools button 4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button. 5. Click on the Save list… button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here in a reply.
Rename HijackThis
There is a possibility an infection which is hiding part of the HijackThis log because it's called hijackthis.exe.
Please rename hijackthis.exe to hello.exe

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.
Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).

Note : process.exeis detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
Hi Scotty,
Here's the log, I don't know if this is relevant but whilst SmitFraudFix was compiling the report I had a windows warning "registry editor. registry editing has been disabled by your administrator."

Could be down to the infection. Let's do the clean up process.
Run Smitfraudfix
Open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".
The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt
Hi Scotty,
Here's the report. Probably nothing serious, on start up had the windows warning "C:\WINDOWS\system32printer.exe windows cannot find 'C:\WINDOWS\system32printer.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again to search for a file, click the Start button, and then click search."

Good morning Scotty!
Good to see you here, you're a great help!
Btw my computer shutdown due to a thermal event (which happens to me often if my comp hasn't warmed up and attempt to do computer intensive tasks straight away) whilst I ran SmitFraudFix option 2, so i ran it again and the results are below.
