Please can you help me get rid of this very annoying software off my machine - ASYSTEM CARE. It supplies constant popups. I did post an initial query a few days ago however I've been away and silver appears to have closed the topic - sorry for not responding earlier.

I've now run vundofix.exe and this is the text file: -

C:\windows\system32\jkkjggf.dll
C:\windows\system32\mrrvskap.ini
C:\windows\system32\paksvrrm.dll

I trust all of this will mean something to someone! Fingers crossed

Hello again xfinns,

Are you running Authentium antivirus software?
Is it active and does it have the latest updates?

Please post the entire VundoFix log in your next response, it is located at:
C:\vundofix.txt

Please download F-Secure Blacklight
  • Click I ACCEPT and download the graphical user interface version to your Desktop
  • Double click the file to run it, choose I accept the agreement then press Scan
  • It will create the fsbl-xxxxxxx.log on your desktop containing a list of all items found.
  • Do not choose to rename any because legitimate items can also be present.
  • Exit Blacklight and post the contents of the log in your next reply.
Once complete, please post the whole VundoFix log, the Blacklight log and a new HijackThis log.
Hi, many thanks for your reply.

I use blueyonder / Virgin Media's own Antivirus software and initially wasn't aware of who provided it for them however having read through the text in the 'about' PC Guard software it does make reference that part of their system (probably a major part!) is by Authentium which you mention so I'll say yes I am running this software and yes it is fully uptodate.

I've down loaded and run the backlight programme this is the text log file: -

Hi xfinns,

There's quite a bit in this post so please take time to follow the instructions carefully. If you have any problems, please stop and let me know.
  • Download BFU.zip from here
  • Right click on BFU.zip and click Extract all
  • Press Next, change the target folder to C:\BFU, press Next, uncheck Show extracted files and Finish
  • Right click here and choose Save Link as to download EGDACCESS.bfu by Metallica
  • Save it into C:\BFU as EGDACCESS.bfu
Copy/paste the following quote box into a new Notepad (not wordpad) document. Make sure that Format->Wordwrap is unchecked.

Save it to your Desktop as "naviclean.bat" (you MUST include the quotes)

It may be a good idea to print the rest of these instructions off as you will be rebooting your computer and will not have internet access while in safe mode

Make sure the Blacklight program is on your Desktop
  • Press Start->Run, copy this command into the box and press OK:

    "%userprofile%\desktop\fsbl.exe" /expert

  • This will launch BlackLight
  • Select I accept the agreement
  • Click Next>
  • Click Scan
  • Wait for the scan to finish
  • Click on Next>
  • Now click on the first item listed and click Rename
  • Repeat for the rest of the items listed
  • Click Next>
  • Tick the box next to I understand the warning
  • Click OK
  • Click Restart now
  • Click OK
Your computer will then restart

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode:
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8
A menu should appear, use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode and press enter

Once in Safe Mode:

Locate naviclean.bat on your Desktop and double-click it. A DOS window will open briefly and then close, this is normal
  • Go to C:\BFU and double click BFU.exe to start the Brute Force Uninstaller (BFU) by Merijn
  • Click on the folder icon [external image: Posted Image]
  • Find and select EGDACCESS.bfu
  • Click Open
  • Click Execute
  • Wait for the script to finish executing
  • You will get the message Completed script execution.
  • Click OK
  • Close BFU
Now, restart your computer normally

Make sure Blacklight is on your Desktop
Press Start->Run, copy this command into the box and press OK:

"%userprofile%\desktop\fsbl.exe" /expert

  • Choose I accept the agreement, then Next and Scan
  • It will create the fsbl-xxxxxxx.log on your desktop.
  • The log will have a list of all items found.
  • Do not choose to rename any this time
  • Exit Blacklight and post the contents of the log in your next reply.
Once complete, please post the last Blacklight log along with a new HijackThis log.
Hi, just a quick update. I was doing great last night following your instructions until I got to the point of re-booting in safe mode. Couldn't get it to boot in safe mode, eventually put it down to my wireless keyboard and it not being recognised in the boot sequence until too late in proceedings to register the F8 button being pressed. I'll borrow a wired keyboard and mouse from work and try again this evening. Sorry for slight delay. Regards, Stuart

My PC also runs Spyware Detector which says it has found and deletes a file called adware.clickspring.exe when I boot my machine - if this helps identify the issue.

I look forward to your next post.

Regards,

Stuart
Hi xfinns,

Good work, the rootkit is gone and the popups have probably stopped :), however your machine is not yet clean so please bear with me.

Re Spyware Detector - This program was until recently classified as a Rogue antispyware program. Typically, these programs do not provide any security benefits, and use false positives to goad users into purchasing a full version of the program. I strongly suggest you remove it - to do so, open Start->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs, look down the list for Spyware Detector and remove it.

Also remove these programs:

J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 1
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 2
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 4
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9

These are out of date and now a security risk, you can get the latest update (version 6 update 2) from here

You have Azureus, a P2P file sharing program installed on your computer. This program does not come bundled with malware as some similar programs do, but peer-to-peer file sharing networks are one of the biggest sources of malware we see. Anything downloaded from them cannot be trusted to be clean, because even if the file appears to be what it claims to be, it can have malware embedded in it.
I recommend you remove it, but of course the choice is yours.
You can remove Azureus via Add/Remove Programs.

Then, open HijackThis, choose Do a system scan only and place a checkmark next to the following lines:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {DBE5B6CE-E6A9-4C40-A2BA-863BB58BEF76} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtutq.dll (file missing)
O16 - DPF: {2D2BEE6E-3C9A-4D58-B9EC-458EDB28D0F6} - http://www.drivecleaner.com/.freeware/inst…leanerstart.cab

Then close all open windows apart from HijackThis, press Fix checked, OK the prompt and close HijackThis.

Then please do an online scan with Kaspersky:

Open Kaspersky Online Scanner in Internet Explorer

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky,
Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT and then Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
    Scan Archives
    Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
  • The program will start to scan your system.
  • Once the scan is complete, click on the Save as Text button and save the file to your desktop
Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the license, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license is accepted, reset to 100%.

Once complete, please post the Kaspersky log and a new HijackThis log.
Pop ups have stopped - cheers!!!!

Hi xfinns,

Just a little tidying up of the Kaspersky detections:

Please delete VundoFix.exe from your Desktop, also delete this folder:

C:\VundoFix Backups

You have several infected emails in your Outlook Personal Folders files, please find and delete these - the details are as follows:

In C:\Documents and Settings\Computerman Customer\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\archive.pst:
Archive Folders - Sent Items - 13 Jun 2005 19:41 - To: David Finney - Subject: You could try this! (possibly 2x copies of this)

In C:\Documents and Settings\Computerman Customer\My Documents\outlook backup.pst
Personal Folders - Deleted Items - 13 Dec 2006 12:21 - From: [removed] - Subject: ERROR 14556

I note you still have Spyware Detector installed, do you really want to keep this program? :)

Once complete, please let me know if you got rid of everything OK and let me know how your machine is running.
Hi, I've deleted those e-mails and I have previously deleted spyware detector i.e. it doesn't appear in the add / remove programmes in control panel however I note there is still a folder on my c: drive. I can't delete this as it says it's stiil in use. Any ideas?
Hi xfinns, I recommend re-installing and then uninstalling Spyware Detector. I know it sounds strange but if it works it will be the cleanest removal, so please try it first and if it doesn't work I'll help you with a more manual approach. Once you've tried (whether it worked or not), please post a new HijackThis log so I can see if there are any entries left.
Right, I've re-installed and un-installed and there is still a folder on C:\Program Files for Spyware Detector. When I try and delete this it says SDService.exe is in use and this file appears below in the new HJT log (3 times I think?). If this helps any?

Hi xfinns,

OK please try this:

Open Notepad: press Start->Run, type notepad into the box and press OK
Copy/paste the following quote box into Notepad. Before starting select Format from the top menu and make sure Word Wrap is NOT checked.

sc stop SDService
sc delete SDService

Go to the menu at the top of the Notepad File and Save as
Save it to your Desktop as "fix.bat" (you MUST include the quotes)
Locate fix.bat on your Desktop and double-click it.
A black box will appear and disappear after a short time - this is normal.

Now, reboot and try deleting the folder:
C:\Program Files\SpywareDetector

Once complete, please post another HijackThis log and let me know if you could delete the folder OK.
Hi,

It worked a treat, we've managed to delete the folder!
