Hey guys,

I cant seem to access control panel, nor does my internet work. My laptop lags sometimes and I have to restart it in order for it to run faster. Sometimes my laptop speakers do not work. All this is most likely due to an infection.

Here is the log file.

thanks for the help!
Hi gochi and welcome to the forums. OK, first of all. I have closed your other 2 posts in this forum. And I see you've also posted over at SWI. Have you posted anywhere else? 1. Getting help from multiple places and helpers will only cause confusion and screw things up probably. 2. The forums, as I'm sure you can see, are very busy and we are all volunteers. Multiple posting and bumping topics will only usually get you ignored. But I had to clean this up because I didn't want to see other helpers waste their time if you are getting help elsewhere. Are you currently getting helped elsewhere? If not I will help you but you have to just post a reply to this topic and advise any other forums that you've posted to that you are getting helped here. Please advise.
Alright, SWI is the only other forum in which I posted to get actual help. I just posted at several sites because as you said, the sites were busy. Sorry about that…
Here is the new HighJackthis Log.

Hi gochi,

It's not a problem. Just want to make sure only one person is helping you. Can you do me a favor and post over at SWI to jedi and let him know you are getting helped here so he can close your thread there. Thank you.

Download and Run ComboFix
  • Download this file from below:
    Here
  • Disconnect from the Internet, than disable your Anti-virus and any real-time Anti-spyware monitors that are running.
  • Then double click Combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply with a new HijackThis log.
Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall
Note 2:Remember to re-enable your Anti-virus and Anti-spyware before reconnecting to the Internet.
I have sent a message to jedi regarding the closing of my thread due to the help I will be getting here, at TomCoyote.

As you requested, here is the log produced by ComboFix.

BTW, HighJackthis log was created while the internet was on and virus protection off, whereas the ComboFix log was created when both the internet and virus protection software were off.
Hi gochi,

Question…what are you running for an AV? I see Sophos and Trend Micro in your services. And you appear to have McAfee disabled in MSConfig, along with a lot of other items.

Should have mentioned this earlier but just noticed it:

You are running HijackThis from the desktop. I recommend that you move HJT to it's own permanent folder so any backups that HJT makes will not be accidently deleted or lost.

Please do the following:Create a new permanent folder in a convenient location that you will remember. To do this: Open Windows Explorer.
Select the drive or folder that you would like to put HJT
From the menu select File > New > Folder
Rename the folder to something you will remember (ie HJT, HijackThis, ect…)
Now move HJT to the new folder that you created.
I don't think you do but I just want to make sure you don't have a Vundo infection that can hide some entries in your log.
  • Please go to the folder where you saved Hijackthis.exe:
  • Right-click on it, then select Rename.
  • Name it something like: FindVundo.exe (or whatever you want)
  • Then double-click the renamed HJT to scan and then post the new logfile.
I installed various anti-virus software because I thought that Trend Micro did not pick it up. I will do the re-arranging for HiJackThis and post the new log thanks
Here is the new log file.

Hi gochi,

You have BearShare installed. It is on the Malware Removal caution list here and may contain Spyware/Adware:

http://p2p.malwareremoval.com/

There are safer P2P programs to use. Again, see list above. But any time you use P2P you run the risk of downloading an infected file. But it is up to you.

STEP 1:

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:
* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.
Please reverse this process once the fix is complete.

STEP 2:

Run HijackThis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: C:\WINDOWS\system32\hrum323.txt

Then close all windows except this one and press Fix checked.

STEP 3:

Using Windows Explorer delete the following file if it still exists:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\hrum323.txt

STEP 4:

Use ATF Cleaner to remove temp files,
cookies, cache, ect…

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 onlyDouble-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

STEP 5:

Using Internet Explorer, click on Kaspersky Online Scanner * You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click 'Yes'.
* The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
* Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click 'Next'.
* Now click on 'Scan Settings'
* In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
o Scan using the following Anti-Virus database: 'Extended' (If available, otherwise 'Standard')
o Scan Options: 'Scan Archives' and 'Scan Mail Bases'
* Click 'OK'
* Now under 'Select a target to scan' select 'My Computer'
* The scan will take a while, so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete, it will display whether your system has been infected.
* Now click on the 'Save as Text' button:
* Save the file to your desktop.
Please post the Kaspersky report and a new HijackThis log.

Ok, something went haywire. After doing everything, my laptop was very solw. I couldnt do anyhting…sory for the delay. Im using another computer to type this message. Sorry for the delay. Apparently, I get an error saying that my post is too long :). Perhaps I'll email you the report via PM. Ok, I sent three messages, each one containing three different reports, so check your mailbox! thanks
Hi gochi, Yes, I got the reports. Can you do me a favor and post them here, using multiple posts as required. I should have advised you that you may have needed to do that in my last post. Sorry about that. But I like to have them visible here so if and when I need an expert opinion from someone here they can look in and see it, thanks. I'll start looking them over in my PM's and get back to you later tonight after I get off work.
Thats the problem, even if I send them indivdually I still get an error saying the post is too long. I will try again, and you'll know if it works. thanks
