Hi ice,

Well I'm not to worried whether you can see it or not…you see it all the time right?
It was more for the experts I had look in here to help me. I've got a few suggestions so far so let's start here…

Download
regsrch.zip
to your Desktop.
1. Unzip the contents of RegSrch.zip to a convenient location.
2. Double-click on RegSrch.vbs.
3. If you have an anti-virus installed it might prompt you about a running
script.
4. Please ignore this warning and allow the script to run.
5. In the "Enter search string (case insensitive) and click OK…"
box, paste this string:

windows spywareremover

6. Click "OK" to search the registry for that string.
7. Wait for a few minutes while it completes the search.
8. Click "OK" to open the results in WordPad.
9. Copy and paste the entire results into your next post.
Hi ice,

Let's deal with an optional item and make sure old versions of Java are not still installed while we continue to work on this.

1. Optional fix:

Backweb.exe or backweb-8876480.exe (Logitech Desktop Manager) backweb-8876480.exe is a process that comes with the Logitech Products software. It manages the automatic update check as well as providing you with new for the latest offers and products from Logitech. This is a non-essential process. Disabling or enabling it is down to user preference. This process can be removed to free up resources without compromising system performance. This program is not required to start automatically as you can start it manually if you need it. It is advised that you disable this program so that it does not take up necessary resources. Many users have reported this process slows their boot time. It may be worthwhile to fix it with HijackThis. Item(s) to fix in HijackThis:

O18 - Protocol: bw+0 - {41480C02-F885-4687-870F-8606B26F5771} - C:\Program Files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger\8876480\Program\BWPlugProtocol-8876480.dll

And all 018's relating to the Logitech Messenger.

2. Remove older versions of Java:

While you do have the latest version installed please make sure all older ones are uninstalled using Add or Remove Programs.

Now let's take a step back for a minute. Please download the latest version of VundoFix (it is constantly updated) and run it again. While I do not see any items in your HJT log Vundofix has had a difficult time with removing items from your computer as we have worked on this. So, please remove the version you have now and download the most recent.

Please download
VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click Yes
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from Click the Scan for Vundo button when VundoFix appears at reboot.

Hi ice,

I noticed the entry in your HJT log for Grokster. I see it's not installed any more. So this can be removed without problem. As far as I know Grokster is not available or used any more.

Run HijackThis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Grokster] C:\PROGRA~1\Grokster\Grokster.exe /SYSTRAY

Then close all windows except this one and press Fix checked.

Using Windows Explorer delete the Grokster folder in your Program Files folder if present.

Interesting that the Vundo tool found some Vundo files yet again! Do me a favor…run the tool a few more times, rebooting in between runs and see if it continues to find files. Post the reports if so letting me know when you rebooted.

Please also let me know if you're still getting the installer.
well vundo found nothing here is the hihack report.

Still getting the installer ice? Let me know. For now let's run another Combofix scan.

Download and Run ComboFix
  • Download this file from below:
    Here
  • Disconnect from the Internet, than disable your Anti-virus and any real-time Anti-spyware monitors that are running.
  • Then double click Combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply with a new HijackThis log.
Note 1: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall
Note 2:Remember to re-enable your Anti-virus and Anti-spyware before reconnecting to the Internet.
I havent noticed the downloader in a few days but I havent downloaded anything either.

Hi ice,

Sorry for the delay, between having to have my reg fix for you checked over first and the new forums here it's been holding me up a bit.

I have a registry edit for you on a couple items that you have disabled with msconfig. While they are not enabled and running right now we should remove them permanently and this should do it.

First, we need to backup your registry:
Please go to Start > Run
Paste in the following line:regedit /e c:\registrybackup.reg
Click OK.
It won't appear to be doing anything, that's normal.
Your mouse pointer may turn to an hour glass for a minute.
Please continue when it no longer has the hour glass.

Open Notepad (press Start->Run, enter notepad and press OK)
Copy everything inside the code box below (Starting with REGEDIT4) and paste it into a new notepad file.
Change the Save As Type to All Files and save it as fix.reg to your Desktop.

Note: Please copy and paste all the text at once, and check that there is NO blank line above REGEDIT4 and one blank line at the bottom.
REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupfolder\C:^Documents and Settings^All Users^Start Menu^Programs^Startup^GStartup.lnk]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig\startupreg\Media Access]

Then double-click on the fix.reg file, and when it prompts to merge say yes.

——————————————-

I also need you to use OTMoveIt again to remove some files/folders. I know you already used it earlier and probably still have it so you can ignore the download part of these instructions. Just included them incase you don't have it any more.

Please download the OTMoveIt by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt.exe to run it.
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

    C:\Program Files\Media Access
    C:\WINDOWS\pss\GStartup.lnkCommon Startup
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\fhhkj.bak1
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\bdglmftd.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\tffkvhqo.exe

  • Return to OTMoveIt, right click on the "Paste List of Files/Folders to be moved" window and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything on the Results window to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it on your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt
*If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately, you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine, choose Yes.
**If a reboot was necessary or you needed to Exit before posting the log, you will find a copy of the log at the root of the drive where OTMoveIt is installed, usually at :
C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles\********_******.log
(where "********_******" is the "date_time")

Click "Exit" to close OTMoveIt.

Reboot, post a new HJT log and let me know where your at with this.
here are the ot files. File/Folder C:\Program Files\Media Access not found. File/Folder C:\WINDOWS\pss\GStartup.lnkCommon Startup not found. C:\WINDOWS\system32\fhhkj.bak1 moved successfully. C:\WINDOWS\system32\bdglmftd.exe moved successfully. C:\WINDOWS\system32\tffkvhqo.exe moved successfully. Created on 08/28/2007 20:59:43

Hi ice,

Glad to hear things are running better. Please do the following:

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected anyway)

1. Turn Off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
2. Turn On System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

NOTE:Since I'm not seeing any Antivirus I would put one of these free ones in place as soon as possible.

Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future. Here is a list of some free and evaluation versions to try: AVG AntiVirus
Avast Antivirus Home Version–Free
Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly or set your computer to receive automatic updates. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Spybot: Search And Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.
A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware , Malware, and Hijackers

Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.
A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

Install SpywareGuard - SpywareGuard provides a real-time protection solution against spyware that is a great addition to SpywareBlaster's protection method.
A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Using SpywareGuard to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

Update all of your Anti-Malware programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed and the ones you are currently running regularly. Without regular updates you Will Not be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Here is a great link to a post here on securing your PC after an attack.

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Glad I was able to help.
unfortunately I have some bad news my computer has done a complete 360 and went from performing well to freezing and extreme slowness, and i can bearly access the interent. I think it had something to do with tose registry changes. I cant even type on it. I dont know what s going on it was ok last night and i did nothing to it since.
Hi ice, OK, post a fresh HJT log and I'll take a look. The registry changes were made a couple of days ago…and you said it was running OK last night. I don't think there would have been any delayed reaction to the changes. Did you make any other changes? Anything? Post the log and we'll go from there. Perhaps you have been re-infected. That is the other thing to think of…what were you last doing when online? Did you download anything? Ect…whatever you can remember will help.
