I downloaded something online.

I had my avast anti-virus on, the realtime virus shield was running. But my computer has been infected by a virus, it auto shuts down my computer for one time.

My startup items are ALL disabled, no matter how i try to config them in MSCONFIG, the startup items are still ALL disabled.

I aready did a scan with Avast Anti-Virus, and i think i removed the virus, but i am not sure. But there are still problems with my computer.

Hi SaMmM12345 and Welcome to the forums.
My name is Dave. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research.
Please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
  • I will working be on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

First a question, was HJT run in Safe Mode? If so please next time run in Normal Mode so we can see everything. Thanks

We can definitely help you, but first you need to help us. The first step in this process is to apply Service Pack 1a for Windows XP. Without this update, you're wide open to re-infection, and we're both just wasting our time.
Apply the updates and reboot.

NOTE: Before posting the new HJT log please do the following 2 steps:

STEP 1:

You are running HijackThis from the desktop. I recommend that you move HJT to it's own permanent folder so any backups that HJT makes will not be accidently deleted or lost.

Please do the following:Create a new permanent folder in a convenient location that you will remember. To do this: Open Windows Explorer.
Select the drive or folder that you would like to put HJT
From the menu select File > New > Folder
Rename the folder to something you will remember (ie HJT, HijackThis, ect…)
Now move HJT to the new folder that you created.
Do not make any changes or click Fix checked until we check the log, as many of the files are legit and vital to your computers' health.

STEP 2:

I need you to rename Hijackthis because I suspect that you may have the Vundo infection that can hide some entries in your log.
  • Please go to the folder where you saved Hijackthis.exe:
  • Right-click on it, then select Rename.
  • Name it something like: FindVundo.exe (or whatever you want)
  • Then double-click the renamed HJT to scan and then post the new logfile.
I had done some things just now, and i think i should tell u: 1: I tried reinstalling the programs that wont load as startup items, after reinstalling they now startup properly. Including the Avast Realtime Shield, which was unable to load as startup item. 2: I did a thorough scan with Avast and it found nothing, i also installed Sunbelt Firewall. Thanks Dave, i really appreciate ur help, and i will follow the steps given by you.
OMG! ERROR when i try to install Service Pack 1.

It says: The core system file (kernel) used to start up this computer is not a Microsoft Windows file. The Service Pack will not be installed. For more information, see knowledge Base article Q327101 at http://support.microsoft.com.

First a question, was HJT run in Safe Mode? If so please next time run in Normal Mode so we can see everything. Thanks

I am not sure if HJT was run in safe mode or not, do u mean my windows start up in safe mode?

If so, my windows was start up normaly.

OK for the Windows Update problem check out this link and try the recommended actions to fix this (I realize the error is a little different from the one you have but they are definitely related):

Let me know how you make out. It doesn't appear you have Vundo so that is good. But we need to get you updated before we do anything else.
Ummm.. actually i installed it to sp2.

Some cleanup with HJT. I know you just installed the Sunbelt Firewall. It looks like you had Zonelabs at one time. Is that still installed or running in any way? I see one service for it. If the program is still around just uninstall it using Add or Remove Programs.

STEP 1:

Run HijackThis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [] 1
O16 - DPF: Win32 Classes -

Then close all windows except this one and press Fix checked.

After i installed Sp2, there are problems with my internet explorer: i cannot download anything, i can't login into a account at any website.
But my mozilla browser is working fine, and there are no problems with it.

I should have been more clear with you regarding the service packs. I only wanted you to go up to SP1a until you were declared all clean. Updating to SP2 with a still infected machine can cause issues.
See if you can use the internet after removing the service and we'll go from there. I may ask you to go back and uninstall SP2 next.

At lease for now you can use Firefox which is good.
Hey Dave, i tried installing internet explorer 7. And after i installed it, everything works normally now.
