Ran CCleaner; AdAware; AVG 7.5; ATF Cleaner; Spybot; AVG anti spyware (safe mode). Loaded Zone alarm for future.

Still getting pop-ups. Spybot still shows multiple problems under 4 categories: Command Service, Network Monitor, Smitfraud, & Virtumonde. The last two are usually deleted but reappear.

Hijack log followed by AVG spyware report follow. Thanks for any help you can give.

::Report end
Hi! Welcome to the Tom Coyote forums.
My name is Scotty. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research.
Please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
  • I will working be on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

Please make a uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
5. Click on the Save list… button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here in a reply.

Rename HijackThis
There is probably an infection which is hiding part of the HijackThis log because it's called hijackthis.exe.
Please rename hijackthis.exe to hello.exe

Now scan again and post a new log, please
I am using Soepeman Enterprise Ltd version 199.0.1 of hijack this. Open misc tolls Open uninstall mgr Press save list… button It boots me out of hijackthis and does not appear to save anything

Hello tulio

Open Notepad and Copy/Paste the text in the codebox below into it:

C:\WINDOWS\SmVzc2ljYSBLb3R1bGEg
C:\Program Files\WinPop
C:\WINDOWS\system32\b02FdUe

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\winlogon\notify\khffcdd]

Save this as "CFScript"

[external image: Posted Image]

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe
Then post the resultant log.

Download Superantispyware (SAS) free home version.

SAS Free

Install it and double-click the icon on your desktop to run it.
· It will ask if you want to update the program definitions, click Yes.
· Under Configuration and Preferences, click the Preferences button.
· Click the Scanning Control tab.
· Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked:
  • Close browsers before scanning
  • Scan for tracking cookies
  • Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
  • Please leave the others unchecked.
  • Click the Close button to leave the control center screen.
· On the main screen, under Scan for Harmful Software click Scan your computer.
· On the left check C:\Fixed Drive.
· On the right, under Complete Scan, choose Perform Complete Scan.
· Click Next to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
· After the scan is complete a summary box will appear. Click OK.
· Make sure everything in the white box has a check next to it, then click Next.
· It will quarantine what it found and if it asks if you want to reboot, click Yes.
· To retrieve the removal information for me please do the following:
  • After reboot, double-click the SUPERAntispyware icon on your desktop.
  • Click Preferences. Click the Statistics/Logs tab.
  • Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
  • It will open in your default text editor (such as Notepad/Wordpad).
  • Please highlight everything in the notepad, then right-click and choose copy.
· Click close and close again to exit the program.
· Please paste that information here for me with a new HijackThis log and the log from the Combofix.
Here is the combo log. I will do the SAS and post. I am assuming the hijack log will be from the DSS clone and will post this unless I hear otherwise.

Hi tulio

Yes, just run the dss again. Could you also do this as the folders were missed in the last run.

Open Notepad and Copy/Paste the text in the codebox below into it:

Folder::
C:\Temp\tn3
C:\WINDOWS\SmVzc2ljYSBLb3R1bGEg
C:\Program Files\WinPop
C:\WINDOWS\system32\b02FdUe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\?ystem
C:\WINDOWS\system32\?ymantec
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ALL USERS\APPLICATION DATA\WILDTANGENT

Save this as "CFScript"

[external image: Posted Image]

Refering to the picture above, drag CFScript into ComboFix.exe
Then post the resultant log with the DSS log.

Hello

Let's see if something is blocking the deletion of those folders.

Download F-Secure Blacklight (fsbl.exe) to the desktop from here.

Open it and click Accept Agreement.
Click Scan.
After the scan is complete, click Next, then Exit.
It will create a log on the desktop named fsbl-xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx will be the date and time of the scan)
Save the log to your desktop. Paste the log in your next reply.
not sure which folders you're referring to, but this didn't seem to find them. 08/02/07 15:27:38 [Info]: BlackLight Engine 1.0.64 initialized 08/02/07 15:27:38 [Info]: OS: 5.1 build 2600 (Service Pack 2) 08/02/07 15:27:39 [Note]: 7019 4 08/02/07 15:27:39 [Note]: 7005 0 08/02/07 15:27:50 [Note]: 7006 0 08/02/07 15:27:50 [Note]: 7011 3844 08/02/07 15:27:51 [Note]: 7026 0 08/02/07 15:27:51 [Note]: 7026 0 08/02/07 15:27:53 [Note]: FSRAW library version 1.7.1022 08/02/07 15:33:39 [Note]: 7007 0
Hi

I recommend you print out, or copy to Notepad, the following instructions as you will be in Safe Mode and unable to connect to the Internet.

Reboot into SAFE MODEBy pressing the F8 key right when Windows starts, usually right after you hear your computer
beep when you reboot it (some versions of windows will display 'Starting Windows' with a grey progress bar)
you will be brought to a menu where you can choose to boot into safe mode.

If it does not work on the first try, reboot and try again, as you have to be quick when you press it.

I have found that during boot up, right after the computer displays the equipment , memory, etc
installed on your computer, if you start lightly tapping the F8 key, the system will usually display the menu.

To enable the viewing of Hidden files follow these steps:
  • Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
  • Double-click on the My Computer icon (or click Start, then select My Computer)
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • After the new window appears select the View tab.
  • Put a checkmark in the checkbox labeled Display the contents of system folders.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Show hidden files and folders.
  • Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide file extensions for known file types.
  • Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files.
  • Press the Apply button and then the OK button and shutdown My Computer.
Now your computer is configured to show all hidden files.
Navigate to and delete the following files and/or folders (if they are present):

Folders:
C:\Temp\tn3
C:\Program Files\WinPop
C:\WINDOWS\SmVzc2ljYSBLb3R1bGEg
C:\WINDOWS\system32\b02FdUe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\?ystem <—–most likely starts with an S
C:\WINDOWS\system32\?ymantec <——ditto
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ALL USERS\APPLICATION DATA\WILDTANGENT

Run a scan with AVG.
  • Click on Scanner
    • Click on the Settings tab, and set the following settings.
      • How to act
      • Click on Recommended actions, and set to Quarantine.
    • How to scan
      • Check all options.
    • Possibly unwanted software.
      • Check all options.
    • Reports
      • Check Do not automatically generate reports after every scan.
    • What to scan
      • Check Scan every file.
  • Click on the Scan tab.
    • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
    • When the scan has finished
    • Make sure that Set all elements to: shows Quarantine, if not click on the link and choose Quarantine from the popup menu.
    • At the bottom of the window click on the Apply all Actions button.
Note: Don't save the report before you hit the Apply action button.

Close AVG Anti-Spyware.

AVG will save a report in the following location C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG anti-spyware 7.5\Reports

Reboot back into Normal Mode and run Combofix again then post back with the resultant log and the AVG report.
