My system has come to a crawl. I have tried to run many things to help clean it but it is so slow I think time will be gone before I get all done. I hope someone can take a look

Then close all windows except this one and press Fix checked.

We are going to use HJT to create a list of your currently installed programs.1. Open HijackThis and click on the Config… button in the "Other stuff" section (lower right hand corner).
2. Click on the Misc Tools button.
3. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager… button.
4. Click on the Save list… button.
5. Save the file uninstall_list.txt to a convinient location. This should open Notepad with the list.
6. Please Copy and Paste the list into your next reply.
Please also post a new HJT log and let me know how it's running now.

Glad it's running better. Can you still post the list of installed programs? Sometimes even though it's running better doesn't mean we are totally in the clear and there may still be items that need to be dealt with. Thanks

I cannot find a way to show everything. There are many programs in there. I tried the print screen thing and I cannot get it in here. I have an image saved on my harddrive but so far I have not found a way to upload it. Everything in there looks ok though. Only programs I have installed like word,PP and excel things like that.

Hi hondo, You may need to split it up into a couple of posts and that's OK. Would just like to check it over but if you're confident there is nothing potentially malicious in there then that's OK too. Let me know.

Thanks again. I have checked good and everything in the add-remove is ok. This computer runs so much better now. I have removed Norton and used the clean utility from Norton's website to do this. Ii want to thank you again. Hondo

Hi Hondo,

You removed Norton? That's OK but did you install a new Anti-virus program to replace it. If not see below for suggestions.

Please do the following:

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs from changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)1. Turn off System Restore.On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
2. Restart your computer.

3. Turn ON System Restore.On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
System Restore will now be active again.

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programs:
  • SpywareBlaster to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place.
  • SpywareGuard to catch and block spyware before it can execute.
  • IESpy-Ad to block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email.
You should also have a good firewall. Here are 2 free ones available for personal use:and a good antivirus (these are also free for personal use):It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated.

To keep your operating system up to date visit
  • Microsoft Windows Update
monthly. And to keep your system clean run these free malware scannersweekly, and be aware of what emails you open and websites you visit.
