Hi there…
:wavey:
I've been using the computer for ages and i'm ashamed to say all the anti virus software on it is long past expired. Truth is I just don't know much about computers and I wasn't sure which one would be the best and so I put it off.. being too terrified to renew it with credit card details online.

I have pop ups now.. My downloads are slowers.. and there's a little red shield in the corner of my browser with a white cross on it that keeps flashing.

Any help would be SO appreciated…

Addy

:)

Hi there,

Was there anything missing from my post? Please let me know if there's anything else I need to include.

I know you guys are really busy.

Hope you can help

Adrina
Hello Adrina,

Welcome to Tom Coyote

Go to your Add Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall both these programs.

Open Site
MyWebSearch

You have Hijackthis installed twice, so as not to get confused I would like you to delete both of them and download and install the newer version from Trendmicro.

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\Rar$EX09.782\HijackThis.exe <–Delete this
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\Rar$EX09.782\HijackThis.exe <–Delete this

Download and install Trendmicros Hijackthis

Download the Trendmicro Hijackthis Installer, follow defauts and it will install in C:\Program Files\Trendmicro\Hijackthis and this is exactly where we want it to be.
  • Open HJT Scan and Save a Log File, it will open in Notepad
  • Go to Format and make sure Wordwrap is Unchecked
  • Go to Edit> Select All…..Edit > Copy and Paste the new log into this thread by using the Post Reply and not start a New Thread.
DO NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Do this first before you post a new log.

Open HijackThis by Trendmicro > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

O2 - BHO: OpenSite.CBrowserHelper - {30A56549-9D5B-4D34-AFA7-440A7F0538A9} - C:\Program Files\Open Site\opnste.dll (file missing)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [My Web Search Bar Search Scope Monitor] "C:\PROGRA~1\MYWEBS~1\bar\2.bin\m3SrchMn.exe" /m=0

O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - http://edits.mywebsearch.com/toolbaredits/…arch.jhtml?p=ZU

This one going to get you into trouble and cost you mucho dollars

O16 - DPF: {10000000-1000-0000-1000-000000000000} - ms-its:mhtml:file://C:\MAIN.MHT!http://d.dialer2004.com//worldsexx/main.chm::/load.exe

Delete both these folders if still present
C:\Program Files\Open Site
C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch

Run this systejm cleaner.

Download and Install CCleaner
If you don't want the Yahoo Toolbar, be sure to uncheck it during installation
  • Click on Run Cleaner
Tutorial for CCleaner

Post a new log please

Good Morning Adrina

Your HJT log is very difficult to read the way you posted it, after it opens in Notepad make sure you do this
Go to Format and make sure Wordwrap is Unchecked

  • Your Java is out of date and leaving your system vulnerable.
  • Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any previous versions of Java (J2SE Runtime Environment)
  • It should have an icon next to it:
    [external image: Posted Image]
    Select it and click Remove.
  • Reboot your system.
  • Then go to the Sun Microsystems and install the update
  • Java Runtime Environment (JRE) Version 6 Update 2 <–This is what you need to download and install.
  • If you chose the online installation, it will prompt you to run the program.
  • If you chose the offline installation, you will be prompted to save the file and you can run it from wherever you saved it.
  • Then after install you can verify your installation here Sun Java Verify
I like to to do the offline installation and save the setup file in case I may need it in the future

Post a new HJT log please
Hi, I'm back!

Okay… so i've deleted previous versions of java and downloaded the new recommended one. Not all the runtime updates from the past could be uninstalled with control panel so i used ccleaner. I hope that wasnt wrong.

Here is the logfile without wordwrap.. hopefully i've done that correctly.

By the way that little red shield in the bottom right hand corner of my screen still has a white cross and pops up occassionally warning me that my system is unprotected.

Let me know if you need something i haven't done properly.

Adrina

:)

ps. I can't play any movies on my computer anymore. It gives me a prompt to dl flashplayer but when i click install nothing happens. Have I done anything to disable it? Hope you can help.
Good Morning Adrina,

That little red shield could be a problem, hover your mouse over it and see if you can tell me what program it is. It could be related to your Norton being out of date but it most likely is a trojan, but its not showing up on your log.

Do a couple of things for me please.

Please download SmitfraudFix
to your Desktop.

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Then before you post a new HJT log I need you to rename it as some infections hide from HJT, simple to do.

C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe <– Right click on the HJT icon ( looks like a man with a spyglass ) and click on RENAME, and rename it to Adrina.exe <– Don't forget the .exe

Let me see the Smitfraud Report and a New HJT log renamed please.
Hi there,

The little red shield with a cross on it appears to be "Windows Security Alerts" with the mous hovered over it. No doubt a result of the expired anti virus?

Here's the Smit rapport

That icon that pops up telling you that your system is unprotected may be legit, Smifraud found nothing , if it did it could be a problem.

Do this

Go to Start>Control Panel> Security Center and on the left click on "Change the way Security Center Alerts Me" and take the checkmark out of Anti Virus.

Which by the way you need to update, Symantec is perfectly legit so you will have no problem with your credit card.

Are you still getting pop ups ?? Andi if you are what are they related to??
Changing the preferences of how it alerts in control panel got rid of the little red shield and its pop ups, so everthing is good now. Thanks so much for your help with all that! One last issue.. I think all the deleting of java etc may have affected the ability to view movies? Some sites ask me to dl macromedia flash player when I click on news videos etc but when i click on the dl link nothing happens and they prompt me to dl it again. Could i dl something somewhere to fix it. I really need to have access to online media for my work and study.. Adrina
Good Morning,

Some sites ask me to dl macromedia flash player when I click on news videos etc but when i click on the dl link nothing happens and they prompt me to dl it again.

This has nothing to do with Java, something is blocking your install of Flashplayer.

What I would suggest you do is to post about the problem in Other Computer Problems as this forum is for the removal of viruses and malware and they will be better equipped to help you with the flash problem.

How did I get infected in the first place ? Read these links and find out how to prevent getting infected again.

Here are some free programs to install, don't leave home without them
  • Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.
  • Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06
Check for Updates and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.
  • Spyware Blaster It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed.
  • Spyware Guard It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • Win Patrol This program will warn you when any changes are being made to your system and give you the option to deny the change.
  • IE-Spyad
IE-Spyad places over 4000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • Firefox 2.0 It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.
  • Zone Alarm Here is a free Firewall from Zone Labs, I wouldn't access the internet without it.
Thanks for stopping by Tom Coyote , I'm glad I was able to help you. :D
Your very welcome  Don't forget to get that Anti Virus updated <_< Norton is about the most realiable program out there, I have it on all my systems.
