Hello dodgemagnum5.2 and welcome to the forums.

One or more of the identified infections is a backdoor trojan.

This type of infection allows hackers to remotely control your computer, steal critical system information and download and execute files without your knowledge.

I would counsel you to disconnect this PC from the Internet immediately. If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or if it should contain any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable, and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Though the Trojan has been identified and can be killed, because of it's backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure your computer can ever be trusted again. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. Please read these for more information:

How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and CC Fraud?

When Should I Format, How Should I Reinstall

However, if you do not have the resources to reinstall your computer and would like me to attempt to clean it, I will be happy to do so. There are good tools available to help us clean this but I cannot make any guarantees with this type of infection.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Please let us know what you have decided to do in your next post.

Regards,
Dave
Hi again……..ive done a bunch of cleaning with spybot and superantispyware and a few virus scanners and this is my hijack log…..can you tell me more about what this trojan is and where its located……..

Hi,

This line (several instances) in your HJT log shows the infection:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Update Machine] System.exe

It is an SDBot. More information on it can be found here:

http://www.ca.com/us/securityadvisor/virus…s.aspx?id=39437

There are good tools to help us clean this up but with this type of infection I cannot guarantee that we get absolutely everything. Let me know what you would like to do and we'll go from there.

Dave
Yeah i would like any help to get rid of this trojan……….i didnt even know i had it and i dont remember my virus scanner letting anything go by. I use NOD32. I will be awaiting your response to find out how to go from here. Thanks a tonne for your help/ D
Please download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Double click on SDFix.exe. It should automatically extract a folder called SDFix to your system drive (usually C:\). Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the SDFix folder and double click on RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y and press Enter to begin the script.
  • It will start cleaning your PC and then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any key to restart the PC.
  • Your system will take longer than normal to restart as the fixtool will be removing files.
  • When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and display Finished.
  • Press any key to end the script and to load your desktop icons.
  • A text file should automatically open, so please copy the contents and post them here. We also need you to post a new HijackThis log
i tried to download Sdfix and my virus scanner came up and said it was a threat and put it in quarantine…………..win32/Prcview application…….is it a virus???? why would my anti-virus scanner claim its a threat.
It's certainly not a virus…I wouldn't do that to you (or at least try to anyway…). Either temporarily disable the AV or just let it allow it to run if possible. It is a false positive. Dave
ive tried to download it several times and it keeps coming up as 0 bytes in the file……..and when im in safe mode and try to run it……comes up as not a win32 application………i think when it quarantined the file it wont let me download it now………what do i do now??????????
i looked for quarantine for nod32 and i cannot find it anywhere………so i did a search for the folder quarantine and i found a few folders but not nod32 quarantine……….ive tried to dl this file for 30 min now and it still comes up as 0 bytes. im totally lost now.
this is the log from SDfix

Hi dodgemagnum5.2,

For future reference what did you finally do to get SDFix working? Whatever it was, nice job! SDFix definitely cleaned things up. Let's run this next tool to see what else may be lurking. You also need to update your Java (instructions below).

Download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.
  • Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

Your Java Runtime Environment is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u2.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u2, The Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language and save it to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially any web browsers.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u2-windowsi586.exe to install the newest version.
HEY IndiGenus:

I had to disable all my antivirus options to let me download the SDfix

Here is the log for the Combofix
