I am having an issue with my XP computer. Many times a day my CPU goes to 100%. I receive failure notices from McAfee saying that some emails could not be sent. Other times they show up as leaving my computer. Sometimes they show up in my worm stopper log in McAfee as being sent from winlogon.exe.
Soemtimes the show up as email scan log usually with the subject of sexually explicit and McAfee reccomends that I resend them from my email program.
None of this is occuring in Outlook and Outlook never has any record of it in sent items or outbox.
It ran Trend House calls in safe mode yesterday and only received some Microsoft vulnerabilities which I applied all of the patches and upgraded to IE 7. The same things are still occuring.

I appreciate any help and would like to thank you in advance

Here is my hijack this log from today.

Thank again
Hi bmcgarry1 and welcome to the forums.

Appears to be a Vundo infection.

Please download
VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click Yes
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from Click the Scan for Vundo button when VundoFix appears at reboot.

Dave
I ran vundofix and it came back completely clean.
I ran Spybot and rebooted and this is my new Hijak this log.
I assume it is the same as last time.

Thank you again for your help

Hello bmcgarry1,

Well it certainly looks like Vundo. Maybe those are new entries that the tool is not picking up yet? Not sure? Let's try a standard HJT kill and file deletion and see how we make out.

Run HijackThis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {03C61752-AAF4-4596-ADE4-6A940E322226} - c:\windows\system32\xizjonvp.dll
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {651F7F00-85C5-43A5-B669-D7D4CDF7781F} - c:\windows\system32\mkcdmkc.dll
O20 - Winlogon Notify: tvwmwdvh - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\mkcdmkc.dll

Then close all windows except this one and press Fix checked.

1) Please download the Killbox.
Save it to the desktop and run it.

2) Select Delete on Reboot, and then click the All Files button. That button should now flash on and off with a green color.

3) Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy)::

c:\windows\system32\xizjonvp.dll
c:\windows\system32\mkcdmkc.dll

4) Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.

5) Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt.

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually. After rebooting, open up Killbox again. Click File -> Logs -> Actions History Log
Post this log in your next reply.

Reboot back into Normal Mode

So, please post the Killbox log, AVG report, and a new HJT log for review.
I have been away from the computer and apologize for not getting back sooner.
First, I would like to thank you for the help. I think you may have found part of the problem.
My computer may be a bit better but I am still getting the wormstopper log of winlogon.exe and the computer had one fit where it was sending emails in the background.

I followed all of the instructions. The only tricky part was running AGV in safe mode because I could not see the whole screen. I could not see the bottom of the page. I am pretty sure I got all of the boxes checked though. Is there a trick to see the whole screen?
I can't get to the AGV log but it found a bunch of cookies and a trojan.
It was Tojan.delf.zj

I did all of your instruction again today and the stuff you had me delete in Killbox had reappeared. I killed it again today.
Also the entries you had me delete in Hijack This reappeared.
When i re-ran AGV, the trojan appears to be gone though.
I also tried the Vundo program and even tried in safe mode and still got nothing.

Thank you again for your help.

I do believe that the Vundofix tool does not recognize those files yet. Please do the following:

Upload those 2 files to the following link:

http://www.uploadmalware.com/

Files to upload:

c:\windows\system32\xizjonvp.dll (if it's there)
c:\windows\system32\mkcdmkc.dll

Now run VundoFix.exe and before you scan right click on the white text box and select Add more files?.
Copy and paste each of the following files into the boxes and click Add Files(s).
c:\windows\system32\xizjonvp.dll
c:\windows\system32\mkcdmkc.dll
c:\windows\system32\pvnojzix.dll
c:\windows\system32\ckmdckm.dll
c:\windows\system32\xizjonvp.*
c:\windows\system32\mkcdmkc.*
c:\windows\system32\pvnojzix.*
c:\windows\system32\ckmdckm.*
When finished adding all the files click on the Close Window button. You should see those files in the window.
Now go ahead and run the scan. When the scan is done click Remove Vundo. Please post the Vundo log and a new HJT log.
I submitted the second file to the site but the first file was not there. I added all of the files to Vundo and did the scan. The scan said no infections were found. Am I supposed to Click on remove Vundo or are there no infections to remove? Thanks again
I got the same thing. It said no files were found. When I click on the remove Vundo, It says there is nothing to fix and the program is closing. I assumed that it would find the files I added since you saw them on my computer.

Thank you again.

I assume it is the same but here is my Hijack this log.

OK time to go to plan B, or is it C now? Let's have a run at it with this fine tool:

Download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.
  • Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall
Thank you for getting back to me so quickly.
I downloaded and ran combofix.
Right after it changed the clok it said a file was in use by another program.
It did not say what file or what program was using it.
I had Outlook and IE open, I don't know if that matters.
Combofix ran for several minutes and rebooted.
While the program ran and again at startup, I got several popups from McAfee saying that Combofix was changing settings.
I allowed all of these changes.

After everything was done I rebooted.
I found 2 logs from Combofix

This one in c:combofix of deleted files

Files to delete:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\cwiiijes.sys
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mkcdmkc.dll

and the one I believe is the log you asked for

OK, things got a little better and the Winlogon key is gone. Let's try another method of removal here:

Please do not reboot until after running OTMoveIt.

Then close all windows except this one and press Fix checked.

Please download the OTMoveIt by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt.exe to run it.
  • Copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\xizjonvp.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\cwiiijes.sys
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\wufjowac.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\jqlhcuut.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\lzjmscun.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\mkcdmkc.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\vgiusrnf.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\kfjyjqud.dll

  • Return to OTMoveIt, right click on the "Paste List of Files/Folders to be moved" window and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything on the Results window to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it on your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt
*If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately, you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine, choose Yes.
**If a reboot was necessary or you needed to Exit before posting the log, you will find a copy of the log at the root of the drive where OTMoveIt is installed, usually at :
C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles\********_******.log
(where "********_******" is the "date_time")

Click "Exit" to close OTMoveIt.

Now reboot and post a new HJT log along with the OTMoveIt results after rebooting.
Thank you.
I was so happy to get the winlogon fixed. I was getting hundreds of errors per day and it was slowing down my computer.
I thought you had all of the problems cleared up.
I did the next set of instructions and here are the results.

Hi bmcgarry1,

Nice job!

I was so happy to get the winlogon fixed. I was getting hundreds of errors per day and it was slowing down my computer.
I thought you had all of the problems cleared up.

We had only partially cleared up the problem. Looks like we got it now though. Just as one more re-assurance that things are OK I would like you to run one of the online virus scans.

Please go Here and do an online scan. Let it fix any infections.
Let me know what is found.

After scan, reboot and post a new HijackThis log

Also let me know how the computer is running now.
Thank you.
I flipped out when it found 39 viruses but it looks like most were in quarantine from before.
I have not run Norton for many months. I switched from them when I starting having trouble.

I have not had the winlogon trouble since noon yesterday.
The problem with it sending spam emails occurs intermittently. Sometimes it will go a several days without one of these fits.
Other times it may occur many times in a day.

One thing I forgot to mention before, once in a while at computer shutdown, I would receive a message about saving a global template in MS Word. I may have that message wording slightly wrong. I did not understand the message.

Do you have any idea what may have caused all of this trouble?
Does this problem have a name?
How did my antivirus not prevent this?

I do not know who you are or why you are so willing to help a perfect stranger, but it is impossible for me to say thank you enough times.

Here is the virus report.
