HOPE THIS HELPS !!!!!
Hi EMMA,

You have a program called new.net installed on your computer. This is not malware but some antimalware programs will detect it as undesirable and I recommend you remove it. To do so, please follow the instructions in green

Please download LSPFix.exe from here:
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
Do NOT run this program. This is only to be used if you lose Internet Access after removing NewDotNet.

Next, press Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs, and remove this program:

New.net Domains 7.48

Removal of New.Net by either method can in some cases cause a loss in internet access. In the event that this has now happened, please double-click LSPFix.exe that you downloaded earlier. You will see 2 panels. If there is any file listed in the Remove panel on the right-side, leave it as is and just click Finish>> then reboot your computer and you should now have access to the Internet.. If nothing is listed under the "Remove Panel", do NOT do anything - just close the program. You will need to use another computer to come back here for further instructions on what to do.

You have Viewpoint Media Player installed on your system. This program is not malware but it is foistware in that it is usually installed without the user's knowledge or approval, and for this reason I recommend you remove it. If you actually use this program, I recommend you try using safe and free alternatives such as VLC Player or Media Player Classic.
To remove, open Start->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs find Viewpoint Media Player and select Remove

You have a program called WildTangent installed. This is not malware, but the program does gather information about your computer, and may slow it down. I recommend you uninstall it, but it's up to you. To remove, open Start->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs and remove WildTangent GameChannel (remove only).

Your Java is outdated and is now a security risk
Go to Start » Control Panel » Add/Remove Programs and remove these programs:
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_07

Download and install the newest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) (version 6 update 2), from here:
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
close

Press Start->Run, type services.msc into the box and press OK
Find in the list the service named AdwareAlert Scanning Engine and double-click it.
Change the Startup type dropdown to Disabled, press Apply then press the Stop button.
Then press OK and close the Services console.

Then, open HijackThis, choose Do a system scan only and place a checkmark next to the following lines (if present):

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…/search/ie.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…//www.yahoo.com

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…//www.yahoo.com
O20 - Winlogon Notify: pmnnm - C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmnnm.dll (file missing)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: ssttt - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ssttt.dll (file missing)

You have the att.com and sbcglobal.net domains in your Internet Explorer Trusted Zone. These aren't malicious websites, however the security settings which apply to websites that are in the Trusted Zone are much more permissive than normal, so sites should only be added if they are trusted and if it is necessary. If you need to keep this domain in your Trusted Zone so that it functions normally then leave them in place, if they are not necessary then please check these lines also:

O15 - Trusted Zone: *.att.net
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://*.att.net
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.sbcglobal.net
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://*.sbcglobal.net

If you removed new.net then you can also check these lines (if present):

O2 - BHO: URLLink - {4A2AACF3-ADF6-11D5-98A9-00E018981B9E} - C:\Program Files\NewDotNet\newdotnet7_48.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [New.net Startup] rundll32 C:\PROGRA~1\NEWDOT~1\NEWDOT~1.DLL,ClientStartup -s

Now close all open windows apart from HijackThis, press Fix checked and say Yes to the prompt.

Then press the Config button, the Misc Tools button and then the Delete an NT service button.
Type AdwareAlertSrv into the white box, press OK and Yes/OK to any prompts.

Now reboot your computer.

Once complete, please post a new HijackThis log.
DID EVERYTHING YOU SAID.. MY COMPUTER DID NOT LOSE ACCESS TO INTERNET, WAS ABLE TO REBOOT MY COMPUTER WITH NO PROBLEMS THIS TIME.

I'M NOT SURE IF I NEED THE ATT.NET / SBCGLOBAL . I SUPPOSE I WILL HAVE TO CONTACT ATT AND FIND OUT BEFORE I DELETE THEM…

THANKS ALOT - NICE TO BE ABLE TO GET ON MY COMPUTER -

WE USE NETGEAR WIRELESS IS IT POSSIBLE THIS SPREAD TO THE OTHER COMPUTERS IN THE HOUSE? CAUSE THE OTHER COMPUTER I'VE BEEN USING IS REALLY SLOW. I DOWNLOADED SPYBOT AND IT SHOWED ALMOST 30 PROBLEMS WITH - HOTKEYS?
Hi EMMA,

The software that was installed doesn't spread by itself so it shouldn't have caused any problems with the other computers on the network, but if you are having problems with it then you are welcome to start a new thread for the computer here at Tom Coyote and we'll take a look at it for you.

I'm not sure what Spybot was detecting, please post the log for me to see:
Open Spybot - Search & Destroy
Select Mode->Advanced Mode and Yes to the prompt
Select Tools and View Report from the menu on the left side
Click the View previous report button, select the most recent log which includes the Hotkeys problems
Then press Export, save a copy of the report to your Desktop and post it in your next response.

Next click Start->Run and type cleanmgr in the box and press OK
Ensure the boxes for Temporary Files and Temporary Internet Files are checked, you can choose to check other boxes if you wish but they are not required.
Press OK and Yes to confirm

Then please do an online scan with Kaspersky:

Open Kaspersky Online Scanner in Internet Explorer

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky,
Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:

Hi EMMA, I misunderstood your previous post :weee: I thought the Spybot detections were on the first computer, and my instructions were aimed at the first computer, not the other one. The second computer doesn't look too bad, but the best thing to do is to finish with the first one (we're nearly there) and then use your last post to start a new thread for your other computer so I don't get confused between the two. So, next could you do a Kaspersky scan on the first computer, and post the scan report along with a new HijackThis log.
SORRY ABOUT THAT I MISUNDERSTOOD YOU TOO… ANYWAY JUST FOUND OUT THAT MY MAN DID A RECOVERY CD WITH THE VIRUS OR WHAT EVER IT IS SO NOW IT IS STORED IN MY C: DRIVE AS A RESTORE FILE.. HOW WONDERFUL IS THAT!!! I SUPPOSE THAT WOULD BE WHY I'M ASKING FOR YOUR HELP. LOL

HERE IS THE INFO YOU REQUESTED.

Hi EMMA,

Yes Kaspersky detected some files in your System Restore area, don't worry we'll clean those out now:

Create a new, clean System Restore point which you can use in case of future system problems:
Press Start->All Programs->Accessories->System Tools->System Restore
Select Create a restore point, then Next, type a name like All Clean then press the Create button and once it's done press Close

Now remove old, infected System Restore points:
Next click Start->Run and type cleanmgr in the box and press OK
Ensure the boxes for Temporary Files and Temporary Internet Files are checked, you can choose to check other boxes if you wish but they are not required.
Select the More Options tab, under System Restore press Clean up… and say Yes to the prompt
Press OK and Yes to confirm

I'm happy to say I think this machine is now clean :) here are some tips to help you keep it that way:

Operating system vulnerabilities can easily be exploited by malware so please ensure your operating system is automatically kept up to date by using Windows Update:
Go to Start->Control Panel->Automatic Updates
Select Automatic and select a suitable schedule
Also, check that your antivirus and antispyware programs are set to automatically update daily.

You have a good antivirus program installed, however I recommend you also install antispyware software with real-time capabilities - this will protect you from a wider range of malware and also that it will protect you from system changes and spyware while you are working, not just removing malware after it has been installed. There are a range of paid-for and free packages available, a free one I can recommend is Windows Defender, available here:
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/s…re/default.mspx

You should consider installing a Personal Firewall program. Even if you are behind a NAT router, I recommend you use firewall software as it will improve the security of your computer by monitoring and controlling outbound connections to the internet as well as inbound. There are various free packages available, such as Sunbelt Personal Firewall and Zone Alarm:
http://www.sunbelt-software.com/Home-Home-…sonal-Firewall/
http://www.zonelabs.com/

Spywareblaster is a free program which prevents the download and installation of Internet Explorer ActiveX based malware by immunizing your system against it. You can download Spywareblaster from here and a tutorial to help you get started is available here.

Consider a custom hosts file such as MVPS HOSTS. This custom hosts file effectively blocks a wide range of unwanted ads, banners, 3rd party Cookies, 3rd party page counters, web bugs, and many hijackers.
For information on how to download and install, please read this tutorial by WinHelp2002
Note: Be sure to follow the instructions to disable the DNS Client service before installing a custom hosts file.

Please take care when downloading programs. One of the easiest ways to be infected is to download freeware/shareware programs which come laden with malware. Before downloading, it is crucial to check whether the source is reputable.
One way to check is to use McAfee SiteAdvisor. Copy the domain name into the space provided and SiteAdvisor will give you a report on the website which can help you decide if it is safe. They also have a toolbar for IE and Firefox which adds this functionality to your browser.

Please post back to let me know that you have read this, and if there are any further issues.
Also, you should post the Kaspersky scan and a new HijackThis log from your other machine in a new thread so we can have a look at it for you :)
