I followed all your instructions and I am having problems when I click fix this, its saying I can not delete some of the checked items. Every time I go to any website, multiple ie browser pages are opening, not pop ups. I did an adaware scan and one other while in safe mode and no help. My pc is extremely slow after all this as well. I downloaded spyzilla, and that found tons of stuff and it seemed to find the browser hijack worm but I restarted and its still there, here is my log:

You have a couple of entries in your log that point to files on your PC that I would like to have checked - if they are still present.

Please go to Jotti's and click on the Browse… button at the top and navigate to the following files in turn, and then click on Submit:

c:\windows\system32\iifdaww.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\mtxclb.dll

When all the scans have been completed, please copy and paste the results into your next reply.

If this site is busy, try VirusTotal: Click the Browse … button at the top, navigate to the file and double click it and then click the Send button.

You may need to set Windows to show All Hidden Files and Folders - Instructions can be found here.
* These files are hidden to stop you accidentally removing something important.
It is advisable to hide them again after you have done.
*

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rename your copy of hijackthis.exe to seek.exe and post a fresh log run in Normal Mode. It's possible that a nasty is interfering with the normal working of HJT in order to hide itself and renaming the .exe will get around this.
* Please note that you need to rename the file itself - renaming a shortcut will prove about as effective as a chocolate fireguard!
I'd then like a fresh HJT log and:
Run HJT and click on Open the Misc Tools section.
  • Click Open Uninstall Manager…
  • Click Save list… and save it to your Desktop.
  • Copy and paste the file uninstall_list.txt into your next reply.
While you're at it, run through the following as well and post accordingly:
You will need to make a copy of these instructions because you have to disconnect from the internet to complete the fix. Either print them out or copy and paste them into Notepad.
1) Download F-Secure's BlackLight from here and save it to your Desktop.
2) Log off from the internet and disconnect your modem cable.
3) Go to Start > Run, copy and paste the following into the text box and hit OK:
"%userprofile%\desktop\fsbl.exe" /expert
The F-Secure Blacklight Beta window should open.
  • Accept the agreement and click Next >.
  • Click the Scan button to begin.
  • Leave the PC idle while the scan takes place.
  • When it has completed, click the Close button.
  • A text file, fsbl-date/time.txt, will be saved onto your Desktop - copy and paste this into your next reply.
Question on your first step, I did the scan but how do I show you the results, a screen shot? I am having a hard time copying the screen shot and then saving that to a word doc to save to a jump drive so I can get on my laptop and paste it here because my pc is running sooooooooooooo slow and opening up new pages left and right. I do not see a save option on that page for the scan. HELP
Sorry this is taking so long, but I am having a really hard time getting to your site and attaching these scans because my pc is running so bad that I just keep getting directed to these crazy sites and then i have to ctrl alt delte like 10 times, I am losing my mind. Thank god for my laptop!
Ok, here are the 2 new hijackthis scans. Here is the one that I did after renaming hijackthis to seek.exe:
I am having a hard time with the last step. I saved the f-secure blacklight to my desktop, unplugged my modem and then went to start - run and typed in: "%userprofile%\desktop\fsbl.exe" /expert And I am getting some error saying that it windows can not find c:\documents Very odd… But when I just double clicked on the icon on my desktop I was prompted to accept the agreement and was able to follow all your steps, so did I do something wrong when I typed into the run window?
Ok, here is that scan, doesn't look like much though, hope its done right. 07/12/07 19:32:38 [Info]: BlackLight Engine 1.0.64 initialized 07/12/07 19:32:38 [Info]: OS: 5.1 build 2600 (Service Pack 2) 07/12/07 19:32:39 [Note]: 7019 4 07/12/07 19:32:39 [Note]: 7005 0 07/12/07 19:32:45 [Note]: 7006 0 07/12/07 19:32:45 [Note]: 7011 1964 07/12/07 19:32:46 [Note]: 7026 0 07/12/07 19:32:46 [Note]: 7026 0 07/12/07 19:32:55 [Note]: FSRAW library version 1.7.1022 07/12/07 19:34:10 [Note]: 2000 1012 07/12/07 19:36:49 [Note]: 7007 0
typed in: "%userprofile%\desktop\fsbl.exe" /expert
And I am getting some error saying that it windows can not find c:\documents
I'd say you missed one of the " out - not a tragedy in itself. The log is what I would hope for if it was my PC.
The one thing you haven't posted is the Jotti's scan for the other file I listed: c:\windows\system32\iifdaww.dll. Does that mean that it wasn't present, or that it got mislaid?
Download Combofix by sUBs from here and save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click combo.exe to run it and follow the prompts.
  • When the tool has finished, it will produce a log C:\ComboFix.txt - copy and paste it into your next reply.
  • Post a fresh HJT log as well.
  • Let me know how the PC is behaving.
Please Note:
  • Do not mouse click in the combofix window while it is running - this may cause your system to hang/crash.
  • Disable Script Blocking if you have NAV installed as it will interfere with the normal working of this tool.
  • Should any security program warnings appear, ignore them as they are false-positives - this tool isn't malicious.
I am not sure what you meant by this either, did I do the scan right or no? "I'd say you missed one of the " out - not a tragedy in itself. The log is what I would hope for if it was my PC."
My stopzilla keeps finding the following thing and removing it but it keeps coming back and they say they removed it again. virtumonde(virtumonde-vundo.B)
