Hi JoseLuis,

First, can you tell me which antivirus program you are using?

Then, open HijackThis, choose Do a system scan only and place a checkmark next to the following lines (if present):
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
O16 - DPF: {1D4DB7D2-6EC9-47A3-BD87-1E41684E07BB} - http://ak.exe.imgfarm.com/images/nocache/f…tup1.0.0.15.cab

Then close all open windows apart from HijackThis, press Fix checked, OK the prompt and close HijackThis.

Next click Start->Run and type cleanmgr in the box and press OK
Ensure the boxes for Temporary Files and Temporary Internet Files are checked, you can choose to check other boxes if you wish but they are not required.
Press OK and Yes to confirm

Then, please do an online scan with Kaspersky:

Open Kaspersky Online Scanner in Internet Explorer

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky,
Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT and then Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
    Scan Archives
    Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
  • The program will start to scan your system.
  • Once the scan is complete, click on the Save as Text button and save the file to your desktop
Once complete, please post the Kaspersky log and a new HijackThis log.
Hi, Do you still need help with your machine? If the instructions are unclear or something isn't working, please let me know before proceeding.

Hi JoseLuis,

Please download F-Secure Blacklight
  • Click I ACCEPT and download the graphical user interface version to your Desktop
  • Double click the file to run it, choose I accept the agreement then press Scan
  • It will create the fsbl-xxxxxxx.log on your desktop.
  • The log will have a list of all items found.
  • Do not choose to rename any yet! I want to see the log first because legitimate items can also be present.
  • Exit Blacklight and post the contents of the log in your next reply.

Then download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS)
  • Close all applications and windows.
  • Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
  • When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt<-this one will be minimized
  • Make sure Format->Word Wrap is unchecked
  • Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your reply
Once complete, please post the Blacklight log and both DSS logs, you won't need to produce a new HijackThis log as DSS produces one for you.
Hi there….the firdt program didn't save any log on my computer??? The second link you gave won't open. I guess I gonna try later and send u my reply….
Hi JoseLuis

Hi there….the firdt program didn't save any log on my computer???

The second link you gave won't open. I guess I gonna try later and send u my reply….

I'm sorry to hear you had trouble with those programs.

Did you download Blacklight to your Desktop before running it? When downloading Blacklight, select Save and save it to your Desktop. Then double-click the program to run it - this will make sure it leaves the log file on your Desktop.

The DSS link works fine for me so I don't know what the problem with it might be.

Please try once more and if you have further problems let me know.
here is the LOG: 07/21/07 16:35:49 [Info]: BlackLight Engine 1.0.64 initialized 07/21/07 16:35:49 [Info]: OS: 5.1 build 2600 (Service Pack 2) 07/21/07 16:35:49 [Note]: 7019 4 07/21/07 16:35:49 [Note]: 7005 0 07/21/07 16:35:57 [Note]: 7006 0 07/21/07 16:35:57 [Note]: 7011 432 07/21/07 16:35:57 [Note]: 7026 0 07/21/07 16:35:57 [Note]: 7026 0 07/21/07 16:36:03 [Note]: FSRAW library version 1.7.1022 07/21/07 17:25:54 [Note]: 7007 0
Hi JoseLuis,

The Blacklight log looks good, did you have any luck with DSS?

In case you still can't download it using the link I provided, I've temporarily uploaded it for you HERE

Once complete please post both DSS logs and if you have further problems let me know :)

Hi JoseLuis,

The DSS report shows that the Windows firewall is turned off and I can't see any firewall software installed. This protection is very important so please turn on the Windows firewall as follows:
  • Press Start->Run, type wscui.cpl and press OK
  • Click Windows Firewall, make sure On is selected and press OK
Is your Norton 2007 antivirus subscription current and are the definitions up to date? If the subscription is current, please manually get the latest updates and check that the program is set to automatically update itself daily. If the subscription has lapsed, then either renew it or uninstall the program and install another antivirus product. There are several free programs available, two of the most popular are here:
AVG Antivirus: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1
Antivir: http://www.free-av.com/

It looks like you have at some time been infected by some type of removable storage device with the drive letter E:. Do you know what your drive E: is? Could it have been a USB drive or other portable storage device?

Please open Start->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs, look down the list for these items and remove them:
BSPlayer
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 3
Java™ SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1

BSPlayer is adware, free alternatives are VLC Player or Media Player Classic
The old Java versions are now a security risk and need to be removed - you can install the latest version from here

You have a program called Messenger Plus! Live installed. When installing it offers a choice either to Install the sponsor program or I refuse to give my support, don't install the sponsor. The sponsor program is malware so if you installed it we need to remove it. Even if you didn't install the sponsor program I recommend you remove this program anyway as the developer is spreading malware for profit - read more information about this here.
To remove the program open Start->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs, find Messenger Plus! Live and select Remove

Backup Your Registry with ERUNT:
  • Download erunt.zip to your Desktop from here:
    http://aumha.org/downloads/erunt.zip
  • Right-click erunt.zip, select Extract All… and follow the prompts to extract ERUNT to a new folder on your Desktop
  • Inside the new folder, double-click ERUNT.exe to start the program
  • OK all the prompts to back up your registry to the default location.
Note: to restore your registry, go to the backup folder and start ERDNT.exe

Then, open Notepad (press Start->Run, enter notepad and press OK)
Copy everything inside the code box below (Starting with REGEDIT4) and paste it into a new notepad file.
Change the Save As Type to All Files and save it as fix.reg to your Desktop.

Note: Please copy and paste all the text at once, and check that there is NO blank line above REGEDIT4 and one blank line at the bottom.

Locate fix.reg on your Desktop, if you did it right it should look like this:[external image: Posted Image]
Double-click it, when it asks if you want to merge with the registry, click Yes.

Next press Start->Run, copy/paste the following command into the box and press OK:

cmd /c dir c:\adober.exe /a /s >> "%userprofile%\desktop\dir.txt"

A file called dir.txt should appear on your Desktop, please post a copy of this in your next response.

Once complete, please post the dir.txt output and a new HijackThis log. Also, let me know how your computer is running.

It seems that my computer is running faster. I added a new RAM recently and it seems that it also makes a big difference.

I hope i did it all right!!

Thanks a lot.
Hi JoseLuis,

I asked about drive E: because although we have cleaned your computer, the portable storage device may still be infected. If this device is known to you, disable autorun for removable drives before plugging it in next time, scan it with your antivirus program and either delete all unknown files or (better) format it before using it again.

I'm happy to hear that your machine is running better, and I think it is now clean of malware :)

These are some important final steps:

You should now delete fsbl.exe, dss.exe, erunt.zip and fix.reg from your Desktop

Create a new, clean System Restore point which you can use in case of future system problems:
Press Start->All Programs->Accessories->System Tools->System Restore
Select Create a restore point, then Next, type a name like All Clean then press the Create button and once it's done press Close

Now remove old, infected System Restore points:
Next click Start->Run and type cleanmgr in the box and press OK
Ensure the boxes for Temporary Files and Temporary Internet Files are checked, you can choose to check other boxes if you wish but they are not required.
Select the More Options tab, under System Restore press Clean up… and say Yes to the prompt
Press OK and Yes to confirm

Here are some tips to help you keep your machine clean:

Operating system vulnerabilities can easily be exploited by malware so please ensure your operating system is automatically kept up to date by using Windows Update:
Go to Start->Control Panel->Automatic Updates
Select Automatic and select a suitable schedule
Also, check that your antivirus and antispyware programs are set to automatically update daily.

You have a good antivirus program installed, however I recommend you also install antispyware software with real-time capabilities - this will protect you from a wider range of malware and also that it will protect you from system changes and spyware while you are working, not just removing malware after it has been installed. There are a range of paid-for and free packages available, a free one I can recommend is Windows Defender, available here:
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/s…re/default.mspx

You should consider installing a Personal Firewall program. Even if you are behind a NAT router, I recommend you use firewall software as it will improve the security of your computer by monitoring and controlling outbound connections to the internet as well as inbound. There are various free packages available, such as Sunbelt Personal Firewall and Zone Alarm:
http://www.sunbelt-software.com/Home-Home-…sonal-Firewall/
http://www.zonelabs.com/

Spywareblaster is a free program which prevents the download and installation of Internet Explorer ActiveX based malware by immunizing your system against it. You can download Spywareblaster from here and a tutorial to help you get started is available here.

Consider a custom hosts file such as MVPS HOSTS. This custom hosts file effectively blocks a wide range of unwanted ads, banners, 3rd party Cookies, 3rd party page counters, web bugs, and many hijackers.
For information on how to download and install, please read this tutorial by WinHelp2002
Note: Be sure to follow the instructions to disable the DNS Client service before installing a custom hosts file.

Please take care when downloading programs. One of the easiest ways to be infected is to download freeware/shareware programs which come laden with malware. Before downloading, it is crucial to check whether the source is reputable.
One way to check is to use McAfee SiteAdvisor. Copy the domain name into the space provided and SiteAdvisor will give you a report on the website which can help you decide if it is safe. They also have a toolbar for IE and Firefox which adds this functionality to your browser.
