I have this horrible trojan horse which will shut down my avg files immediately and even when I search on the net for corrections it shuts down. Does not seem to recognize a forum so I thought I would try this. Not sure how to copy my log but need help!!!!!!!!!!
Hey, welcome. :wavey:

If you can run HijackThis, it creates a log for you and usually calls it HijackThis.log. It's in the same folder as the program.

If you need, you can open the file with notepad, then go to Edit>Select All, then hit Control-C (hit C while holding the Control key), then paste that (Control-V) into the Reply box here.

Then we can get to work.

I hope this helps.

Hi, I have tried to run the hijack program, in fact i called the file mylastchance but it still will not let me run it. Sometimes I get as far as clicking the button to run the file and I can see it, but then the computer closes all. Any suggestions? Thanks, Mary
I have some suggestions but I need to list your topic with the experts here. They will observe everything and make certain we're on the right track. B)
OK, let's try this.

Download ComboFix to your desktop, from HERE

Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.

Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang.

When it's finished, it will probably reboot. If it doesn't automatically, reboot it yourself. It should produce a log, combofix.txt, which you can post in your next reply.

Then attempt to run HijackThis again and if it's possible, also include a HJT log.

Thanks.

B)
Thanks so much for your help. I ran combo fix & here is the text file. My notepad also opened up with a file. Iill copy that after this. I will now attempt the h i jack next.

Congratulations  :weee:

Now I can see what needs to be done next.

It looks like you have 2 AV programs running. That can be worse than having none at all. You need to uninstall one. My preference is for the AVG, which is now in release 7.5.

If you decide to keep AVG, you can either uninstall AVG 7 and install AVG 7.5 or you can do a "Repair" install to AVG 7 using the dowloaded 7.5 file. Get AVG 7.5 HERE. Make sure you run Updates after installation.

Your Ewido Anti-Spyware is also outdated. IF you are not subscribed to it, you would want to uninstall Ewido and then install AVG Anti-Spyware. If you decide to uninstall, you can get AVG Anti-Spyware HERE and save it to your desktop.

This is a 30 day trial of the program
  • Once you have downloaded AVG anti-spyware, locate the icon on the desktop
and double-click it to launch the set up program.
  • Once the setup is complete you will need to run AVG and update the definition
    files.
  • On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "
    Update now
    " link.
    • Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a
progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of
the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
  • Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then
    select "Quarantine".
  • Under "Reports"
    • Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
    • Un-Select "Only if threats were found"
Close AVG anti-spyware, Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly.
  • Your Java is outdated, so let's update the Java and Clear the Cache.

    1. Go to Start>Control Panel and double-click the Java Icon (coffee cup) in the Control Panel.

    2. It will say "Java Plug-in" under the icon.

Please find the Update button or tab in the Java Control Panel. Update your Java then reboot.

    3. If you are unable to update you can manually update by going HERE.

    4. After the reboot, go back into the Control Panel and double-click the Java Icon.

    5. Under Temporary Internet Files, click the Delete Files button.

    6. There are three options in the window to clear the cache - Leave ALL 3 Checked

    Downloaded Applets
    Downloaded Applications
    Other Files

    7. Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window

Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.

    8. Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel

Now close all windows and browsers.

    Open HijackThis

    Click on Open Misc Tools
Click on Delete a File On Reboot
Click once on the file below to select it:
    C:\windows\system32\ggf.exe

Click on the Back button to exit Process Manager.

Now run HijackThis (scan only) and put a check next to the following:

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [gf1.0.0.2] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ggf.exe
    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {85d1f590-48f4-11d9-9669-0800200c9a66} - %windir%\bdoscandel.exe (file missing)
    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Uninstall BitDefender Online Scanner v8 - {85d1f590-48f4-11d9-9669-0800200c9a66} - %windir%\bdoscandel.exe (file missing)
    O14 - IERESET.INF: START_PAGE_URL=http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE=3&tp=iehome&locale=EN_US&c=Q105&bd=pavilion&pf=laptop

Then click on Fix Checked and let HJT do its thing.

Reboot your computer into SafeMode. You can do this by restarting
your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears.

Use your up arrow key to highlight SafeMode then hit enter.

Now let's do a scan with AVG Anti-Spyware.

IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or
programs while AVG is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:
  • Launch AVG Anti-spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
  • Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab
then click on "Complete System Scan".
  • AVG will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little
    time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
  • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all
    actions
    "
  • Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
  • Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the
screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where
you saved that file, this is important).
Close AVG and reboot your system back into Normal Mode and post the
results of the AVG Anti-Spyware scan and a new HJT log.

Thanks.

I ran the scan for the AVG spyware, I did change the report to run after each scan but there was no report. The scan showed various cookies which the system deleted. It also put the following 3 files in quarantine: HKU\S-1-5-21-549708308-290976326-3052371814-1006\Software\Microsoft\InternetExplorer\Extensions\Cmdmapping\\{c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} Adware.Generic Med Threat C:\System Volume Information\_restore{D5341F9C-33F7-43CF-8BD2-1AE937C9BA1b}\RP449\A0078458.exe Downloader.Small.epy Threat high C:\QooBox\Quartine\C\WINDOWS\system32\~.exe.vir Downloader.Small.epy Threat high this is it. thanks
Things are good.

BTW:
With AVG Anti-Spyware, if you click on the Infections icon, then it will show you all the items in Quarrantine and you can remove them that way.
Just click Select All then Remove finally.

OK, we're almost finished. ;)

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.

Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ]ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time.

Then, I would like you to go HERE for an on-line scan.

They will request your permission to install an ActiveX component. Please allow it.

Then start the scan.

When it is finished, allow it to clean (automatically) and save the report.

Post the report back here with a new HJT log, please.

Thanks.

Great news!

OK, now we can create a new restore point. That's important in the event something happens in the future and you would like to revert to a known state.

Here is some info on the virus you had. It wasn't very dificult to remove but it was very successful in keeping itself hidden.

http://www.incodesolutions.com/threats/Sys…2Rootggfexe.php

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)

1. Turn OFF System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
  • Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.

See this link for a listing of some online & their stand-alone antivirus programs:

Virus, Spyware, and Malware Protection and Removal Resources

  • Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

  • Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:

    Understanding and Using Firewalls

  • Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

  • Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware , Malware, and Hijackers

  • Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. ou should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using Ad-aware to remove Spyware, Malware, & Hijackers from Your Computer

  • Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

  • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Glad I was able to help.
