I suggest you do this:


Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.


Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"



Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.


Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

I ran HijackThis, did a system scan, checked the 3 boxes you listed, closed all windows except HijackThis, and clicked "Fix checked". I then downloaded ATF Cleaner, ran it, selected all, and clicked Empty Selected. I rebooted and my homepage is still stuck on Gatewaybiz.com. Other than that, the computer is running fine, not slow, nothing weird going on (that I notice). I can get back to Yahoo and resume normal Internet use. Once I close the Internet browser and then open it again, it goes back to Gatewaybiz.com. Here is my new HijackThis log file. Thank you!

The website you referred me to seems to say to try their suggestions at your own risk. We're going to try updating our Spyware program and our virus protection program, but I thought that just kept viruses from getting in, but didn't get rid of them once they infected your computer. Since otherwise the computer is running fine, do you think there is any danger in leaving the homepage the way it is? I'm not sure what else to do.

Download ComboFix from Here or Here to your Desktop.
  • Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you, combofix.txt.Post that log and a HiJackthis log in your next reply
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall

We updated/upgraded our virus protection program as well as our spyware protection program and that did the trick. We're back to good ol' yahoo.com as our homepage. Thanks for all your time and help! It's good to know you guys are around.
