Here's the fixwareout logfile, which was done afte the combofix (above) was done. Unfortunately, I didn't save the original fixwareout logfile. Also, when the computer rebooted, I got another dialogue box with the following across the top: 2 boxes, a capital A with a line over it, another box, a single parenthesis, a box, another A with a line over it, and then another box. Inside the dialogue box were 6 horizontal line a capital A with a line over it and then another 2 horizontal lines. I clicked out ckay and then it finished booting. I guess you can pick the order from the last 3 replies., I've got the three logs, this hjt, one reply up a fixwareout logfile, and above that the combo logfile.

How do I increase the size of my registry?

Thanks again.
Is this a typical problem? fix?
-Steve
Yes, the registry grows as more programs and configs are saved. To increase registry quota Control Panel|System|Advanced|Performance Options|Change, then under "Registry Size" you can set the value to a higher number.

Now, on to the fix!

Open AVG AS and click on the Shield. Then check to make certain the Resident Shield is OFF.

Then please run HJT and go to Misc. Tools>Uninstall Manager and Save the list where you can find it later.

Then run HJT (scan only) and put a check next to the following entries:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =
O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Reader Speed Launch.lnk.disabled
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk.disabled
O4 - Global Startup: QuickBooks Update Agent.lnk.disabled
O13 - WWW. Prefix: http://
O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: NameServer = 85.255.113.90 85.255.112.5
O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\..\{0D17829C-5949-429C-B4CF-4F6D7D68067A}: NameServer = 85.255.113.90,85.255.112.5

Then click on Fix Checked and let HJT do its thing.

* Enter your Control Panel and double-click on Network Connections

* Then right click on your Default Connection (usually Local Area Connection for Cable and DSL)

* Left click on Properties

* Double-Click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item

* Select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS Servers Automatically

* Do that for every connection listed in network conntections

* Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.

Make sure to reboot and post the results of the uninstall list and a new HJT log.

Thank you.

I don't know how to get you the new scan from hjt, but checking through it, it seemed that most of the things are gone and the adobe global start up speed launch link is disabled.

thanks again,

Not sure I know what you mean by

I don't know how to get you the new scan from hjt,

Maybe you mean the Uninstall List?

Try again to get the Uninstall List. You open HijackThis, select Open Misc. Tools Section and then Open uninstall Manager.

There is a button down on the right that says Save list. It should create a list called Uninstall_list.txt. You can save it to your desktop. Then cut and paste it into your next post.

Include another HJT log as well, if the one you sent is not the most recent. If it is recent, just the Uninstall List would be fine.

Thanks.

B)
When I boot up I get this square dialogue box that has two squares in the heading and then in the body has six vertical lines, a capital A with a line over the top, and then two more vertical lines and an Okay button at the bottom which must be clicked prior to continuing with the boot.
Here's the hjt uninstall logfile..

For some reason, you are sending a second HJt log.

Let's do this nice and slow now….. :weee:

Open HijackThis

You should see about 6 buttons.

Click on Open the Misc Tools section (the 4th one down)

Now you should see a Config screen and a bunch more buttons to choose from.

Under the heading of System Tools, select the Uninstall Manager

It should create a list after you click on the button.

Then you should see a button to the right that says Save List

It will allow you to save it to your desktop, or anywhere that you can remember.

Copy and paste that list in your next post.

NOW, if you don't see those buttons I speak of, let me know. There are some copies of HijackThis that I have seen that do not have those extra tools.

Thanks.

I am not too sure about this box you are getting. I will ask around though. Hopefully it will go away once we find out what we want to uninstall. B)

Good work.

I knew you could do it.

The only thing I see that is bad there is SpyAssassin. That is a rogue program that does more harm than good. Here's a list of a bunch of those type.

http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm

Please remove SpyAssassin through Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.

Here also is a list of P2P programs. Some are good, some are bad. I can't really say I've ever seen a "good" one. <_<

Can you take a screen shot of your error? Or a pic with a phone or camera? I'll see if I can find some way to post it here.

Let me know how it goes after removing SpyAssassin.

B)
Spybot is definitely for keeping. The SpySubtract is user's preference. I would uninstall it myself and just use the basics, Spybot, Ad-Aware, AVG and ZoneAlarm. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

Your log says you are clean but I would like you to run ComboFix.

Download ComboFix to your desktop, from HERE

Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.

Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang.

When it's finished, it will probably reboot. If it doesn't automatically, reboot it yourself. It should produce a log, combofix.txt, which you can post in your next reply.

Post it with a new HJT log please as well.

B)
BTW, this dialogue box that comes up. When during the boot sequence does it happen? Does it happen before the very first Windows Logo? Or after the Logo? Thanks. B)
