This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. It will create a file named:
c:\rapport.txt

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Please post:

Running the Clean

Warning: running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

Please print out or copy these instructions/tutorial to Notepad as the internet will not be (while in Safe Mode) available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • Login on your usual account.
______________________________

Open the SmitfraudFix Folder, then double-click smitfraudfix.cmd file to start the tool.
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?" answer Yes by typing Y and hit Enter.

[external image: Posted Image]

The tool will also check if wininet.dll is infected. If a clean version is found, you will be prompted to replace wininet.dll. Answer Yes to the question "Replace infected file ?" by typing Y and hit Enter.

A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process, if you computer does not restart automatically please do it yourself manually. Reboot in Safe Mode.

The tool will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
OK, I got rid of BigFish Game toolbar.

Ran the HJT scan and fixed all mentioned. Deleted C:\ALCXMNTR.EXE
Downloaded cleaner and did that. Rebooted and this is the log:

As far as how the comp is running? Seems about normal. A few anomolies like the screen refreshing during startup or when using 2 tabs in a browser, after you ask tab one to do something and switch back to tab 2, when tab 1 is complete it always returns to tab 1. Maybe that's normal? Doesn't really matter though, I can live with that.

Am I all set now? Thanks
You can remove any programs / Tools I had you install. Use Add/Remove Programs to remove if listed there otherwise just delete them and empty recycle bin.

Log looks good :D

You need to create a new Clean restore point.

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
Check "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

If you dont have any programs like these, I would recommend that you get them.
Spywareblaster,
Spywareguard.

Also get a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

Only run one Anti-Virus and Firewall program.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Do not use Ad-aware if you have McAfee's VirusScan and AntiSpyware

Safe Surfing. :D

I would also suggest you read this:
So how did I get infected in the first place?
by Tony Klein
Now the computer is very quick again. I do have a couple questions if you don't mind though. Is the Yahoo Anti-virus and anti-spy that I currently use not very good at it's job? Am I better off to use the AVG antivirus that you had me dl for the AV part? I thought I was protected by a firewall. How can I find out? I do remember getting one but I have no idea where to find it's position on the computer. I'll dl the spyware blaster if the Yahoo AS won't cut it, just tell me and it's done. Thanks again, happy to send a donation to the forum! I'll look at the suggested reading also, as well as my kids.
There are Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware , programs.

1. I would think your Anti-Virus is doing it's job. You didn't have a Virus. There are virus', spyware and malware.
Anti-virus programs look for virus signatures.

2. What I had you download, AVG Anti-Spyware , is a 30 day trial. It will still work after that but won't update. If I were to purchase one, I'd go with this one.

3. If you have a Router, then there's usually a built-in Firewall.
Windows also has a built-in Firewall, but only checks incoming.

Understanding and using firewalls
Hi LD, For the first couple reboots my computer seemed fine. Then I don't know if I told the ZL firewall to not allow something by mistake or what but I started having problems with my Yahoo anti-virus updates, and then couldn't get back on line. This morning I finally uninstalled ZL, spywareguard, and spywareblaster. After a reboot I'm all good again. The most frustrating part was after I told the computer to load my Yahoo browser it would just hang, along with any other program that was running. Any ideas before I load these back in one at a time? Thanks.
