Run HijackThis and fix this one;
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/…://my.yahoo.com

You need to update SunJava.
Updating Java:
Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.

Scroll down to where it says Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u1
The Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications.

Click the "Download" button to the right.

Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".

Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.

Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.

Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.

Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name. It should have the [external image: Posted Image] icon next to it.

Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.

Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.

Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.

Then from your desktop double-click on 6-windowsi586-p.exe to install the newest version.

Once installed you can test to see that it is in fact installed

Hi LD,

Well I guess there is the good new and the bad (or semi) news. The computer is running quicker - boot time is still a little long 3:45 min but here is the part where I feel kinda stupid. There is another user account setup on this computer - I thought that what we had "fixed" on my account (which has administrative priv) would "apply" to the other account. I guess I was wrong (sorry!) I tried to boot into the "other" account just to see if the boot time was the same - actually 3 minutes longer getting into that account 6:45 min. I did a HJT log while logged into that account, then did a comparison in excel between the two logs and there are a lot of differences (especially in the trusted zone stuff - which I checked to fix, but to no avail). So, I am going to post both HJT logs and apologize for being an idiot, and sorry again….

Make sure you're logged in under this account and not the one we just cleaned.

Please download HoxtXpert.

Unzip HostsXpert.zip
Double click on HostsXpert.exe
Then click on "Restore Original Hosts" to restore your Hosts file to its default condidtion..
Click on Make Hosts Read Only to secure it against further infection.
Close program when complete.

Next:

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time.

Next:

Download AVG Anti-Spyware from HERE and save that file to your
desktop.
This is a 30 day trial of the program

Once you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware, locate the icon on the desktop
and double-click it to launch the set up program.
Once the setup is complete you will need run ewido and update the definition
files.
On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "
Update now" link.
- Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a
  progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of
the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then
select " "Quarantine" .".
Under "Reports"
- Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
- Un-Select "Only if threats were found"
IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or
programs while AVG Anti-Spyware is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:
Lauch AVG Anti-Spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab
then click on "Complete System Scan".
ewido will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little
time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all
actions"
Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the
screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where
you saved that file, this is important).
Close AVG Anti-Spyware and reboot your system back into Normal Mode and post the
results of the AVG Anti-Spyware report scan along with a new HijackThis log.

Ok LD these little dudes are getting annoying

I ran the AVG Scan (which took forever) with the settings you specified (report generation etc) and after it was done with the "apply all actions" AVG didn't generate a report

It found 26 objects with 69 traces, also 1 rootkit and 2 trojans and 3 other downloaders were quarantined… So, here is a HJT log… I don't know what else to do re: AVG…

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.

Launch Notepad (Start>All Programs>Accessories), and copy/paste all the Quoted REGEDIT below to it. Don't forget to include REGEDIT4.
Save in: Desktop
File Name: fixme.reg
Save as Type: * files
Click: Save

REGEDIT4

Save this as fix.reg Choose to save as *all files and place it on your desktop.
It should look like this: [external image: Posted Image]
Doubleclick on it and when it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click yes/ok.
(In case you are unsure how to create a reg file, take a look here with screenshots.)

1.Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
2.Next, open Add/Remove Programs and remove if listed:

Ok well some of the symptoms are better (no popups in IE) here's a couple of strange ones - all of the "icons" on the desktop are "scalloped" around the edge of the background picture, boot time is still significantly longer than the other identity, the screen will go "blank" for a second while the computer is trying to open a program or file. One question is McAfee a real resource pig? I don't know why this thing is so slow to process anything…

For the Icon's: 1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel. 2. Double-click Display, click the Desktop tab, and then click Customize Desktop. 3. Select Restore Defaults Let me know if that worked

Hey LD, No, didn't help the Icons (most of the ones that are affected are "file folder" icons) And now this thing takes even LONGER to boot - 6 plus minutes

Plus the "white screen" happens everytime this thing almost finishes booting (didn't use to do that) I'm confused…
